Its better to go to a gym closer to your house for convenience and to sustain that motivation to go and work out. Consider several factors:
1.) Does the price conform nicely to your budget?
2.) Do they have the right amount of equipment that are in good condition?
3.) Is the place overcrowded?
4.)Do they have other facilities (such as pool, b-ball court, other sports equipment etc...) that'll give value added edge to your workout?
If you cannot find any gym around you, i suggest for you to invest on 2 sets of dumbells and work out in the comforts of your home. You could actually get a total body work out from them!
As for the belly, there are 3 fundamental rules that you should follow:
1.) Do consistent sessions of Cardio work out (running, bike, swimming etc...)
2.) Watch what you eat. Limit your intake on fatty foods and ensure that you burn off all the calories you consume for the day.
3.) Do abdominal crunches (lowers, mids, uppers and obliques). You should see results in 2-3 months.

I work in libis and there's a newly opened gym there, FITNESS FIRST :) It's a nice gym, equipments are new and complete, has a sauna and steam room, free refill of drinks (ice tea, water, etc) they have bananas too! hehehe for potassium. Pero the membership and monthly fee is pretty high. But it's worth it. Saka thats where most models and cute actors work out, hehehe for added motivation.
You know, i've been going to the gym for almost 5 years now and then i stopped when i started working, it's always better to have some kind of exercise maski na you dont have to go to the gym. kase when you stop, ang bilis mag gain. You can do jogging or brisk walking once in a while. It was a mistake of mine kase, hehehe...
But you will enjoy the adrenaline rush in the gym!!! :)

Basically, what do you do when you're in the gym? Treadmills, Dumbles, etc.
... or perhaps, staring at the people inside the gym. Anything, I guess...

Hi 4MER_Pexer! I'm actually from Canada pero share na rin ako kung okay lang sayo :) .
When I first started going to the Y in February, I started out on the stationary bike and elliptical machine as well as attending a couple of muscle conditioning classes where you do calisthenics and use dumbells. Since then I've switched to a Tae Bo type class instead of the machines and lately I've been heavily addicted to spinning. Still doing the muscle conditioning of course and I'm amazed at how much strength I've gained!
By the way does anyone know of a place in Manila that offers spinning classes? I'm planning kasi to visit in December and was hoping that I would offset some of the holiday eating with some exercise. :)

I have two gym memberships:
I have been a Fitness First Gold Card Member for almost two years. Mainly I go for the Spinning and Body Combat Classes. When I miss out on those I hit the tread mill, rower and cross training machine. On the rare occasion I venture into the Weights Studio (I avoid it because I always find intimidated to be out numbered at least 10 to 1 by the men) I mainly work my legs and shoulders for some definition for around 20-30 minutes.
I am also a member at a new health club called Elix'r. I do Group Reformer, Pilates Ring, Rilates Mat & Iyen Yoga classes. It's more for building core stability - working from the inside to the outside. I'm loving it! For cardio work here I do the boxing class.
I try to do a cardio work out for at least 45 minutes.

i can attest to that! raindoll was the first to scale our latest trekking destination (elevation: 1006m). *okay*
i work out regularly too, pero sa company gym (which is free!) :glee:
i lift weights three times a week, but before that i hit the threadmill and try to maintain a speed of 8-9 kph for 10-15 minutes to wake my muscles up, followed by sit-ups.
i do a three-day split (it's not that kind of split, dumdum!), where i perform chest and bicep exercises on workout day one, tricep and shoulder exercises on day two, and back and leg exercises on day three. that way, i get to work all muscle groups at least once a week.
kaso pahinga muna ako dahil may hand fracture ako...:bawling:

Eat lots of Carbs before a workout to fuel your routine for the day and drink a glass of Protein Shake so that the amino acid breakdown will be contained to a "healthier" level. After a workout eat tonnes of protein (think LEAN MEAT) then down another glass of Protein Shake.
WHen working out, make sure you LOAD your weights til you feel your muscles ache and fatigued. Its a good sign that you're "tearing" your muscle fibres to give way to heavier and bulkier muscles.

Vanity is always one of the reasons why people workout, heck, that's probably the main reason why I started. Then I learned the benefits of exercising regularly, healthwise and vanity wise. I can say I can wear a two piece too, LOL. Kidding of course.
Anyway, you shouldn't worry about your weight too much. Muscle actually weighs more than fat, I suggest you step on a body fat scale. You can check one out here http://www.healthchecksystems.com/tbf551.htm
As for your diet, people who workout and try to lose fat usually don't get enough protein. Try taking a protein shake together with your lowfat diet to make sure catabolism doesn't occur in your muscles. Maintain your build? Doing cardio regularly is a pretty good way. Watching what you eat also plays a big part, I suggest checking out http://www.bodyforlife.com/.

is there any fitness center in manila that offers a package deal? di ba normally you pay for certain classes only? or to use the gym?
like here in bangkok, you pay a membership fee (monthly, annually depende sa yo) then you can join any or all of their fitness programs - aeroboxing (aerobics & kickboxing) yoga, etc. & get to use the gym anytime and anyday you like....
di ako nagwo work out sa manila but would like to continue what i've started here pag uwi ko, ganitong set up rin preferred ko sana.. of course taebo in place of aeroboxing

masyadong masikip na nga sa slimmer's world pasay road and trafalgar, pero pati rin naman sa fitness first sobrang daming tao na rin eh. well it's good that a lot of people are already becoming health-conscious, pero some people just go there to meet people, which really sucks... halos hindi ka na makapagstretch minsan sa sobrang daming tao. the best time to work out siguro would be weekend mornings...
