It's good to learn specific skills (ie, specialize) early in your career, because that is a quick way to accumulate accomplishments. And by your accomplishments you shall be known, and succeed.

But as you go up the ladder and become part of management, you will need to get your work done through others. That is the time to exercise your "all-around" skills.

An ALL AROUND man in the office who can do many things but does not really excell in all of them or the SPECIALIST who can only work on a certain thing?
