Not everyone in college is taking up computer science or any of its derivatives. Not all working professionals have computer-related degrees. But the hottest industry right now is Information Technology.

Is there a way for non-I.T. people to join the I.T. bandwagon? Should they undergo further studies or re-educate themselves? Or should they shift in the first place?

i think there is =)

pero one should be AT LEAST computer literate di ba? marami namang nagtuturo ng mga basic courses sa IT---kailangan lang talagang maging matiyaga and decided ang isang tao na matuto...

IT stuff are so new that you can't formally study them in school... we have people in our company doing tough IT work but don't have matching degrees... as long as you know how to think and are motivated!

Read! Read! And study!

PHP 10,000 worth of books can be a 1 week project worth 50K. :D

You can self-study! You should have the interest however, and if possible, the patience and passion to learn. The pace of new ideas/concepts/technologies are so fast, you have to learn quickly.

Also, your current background can help out in I.T. For example, if you have a finance, manufacturing, business, etc background, this will help you understand the processes and functions of a company that can be re-engineered or automated via I.T.

It really does not depend on the degrees..
It depends on the way your mind thinks..

In our company, we have chemical engineers who are doing a lot of Hackwork.. and they are good at it. We also have other types of degree holders here who are equally good at their IT fields.

The only advantage of computer related course degree holders is that they are trained to think in that certain frame of mind during their studies. But that frame of mind can be learned.
