If I want to sell some product over the internet, would you recommend i just put up my own site or just rent from one of those big local e-malls? any other suggestions?

Before making the big move to e-commerce have you considered auctioning it off first?

Using an established business model (e.g. www.pinoyauctions.com) (http://www.pinoyauctions.com)) makes it easy for your product to get eyeballs. In a bid system you will also gain insight on your product's price position and market demand.

Best of luck.

May Angels smile upon you,

Pretty tough call makiling.

Ecommerce facilities here suck a$$ like hell.

10% surcharge??? And if you're a new company chances are you'll get denied.

I've actually had to partner with my uncle in the US to get an online transaction facility working for me. Only quite recent I must add.

BTW You still interested in that leased line?

He has a merchant account but he doesn't market online. So he's having me use it. Imporante yung kilala mo.

As far as the leased line is concerned. It is convertible to 128K or even 256K as long as it fits the value.

What's your current ISP?

FYI lang po, makiling.
PinoyAuctions.com doesn't just auction second-hand stuff. If you visit the site, you'll be happy to find that a lot of the items are brand new -- CDs, cellphones, books, Personal Digital Assistants, clothes even! Plus they have a warehouse where you can consign your items so you don't have to take care of physical inspections.
Check the site sometime. :)

some auctions sites offer this option to sell items retail, wholesale, or simply putting one item up for bid. check out my webpage in my profile. it has links to VG local auction sites. :)

I think what JDELEON meant by his suggestion was for you to use existing, and established auction and e-commerce sites to test the acceptance and saleability of your product. This doesn't mean you have to use these channels exclusively, or forever.

When you have more sales volume (and cash flow), you can then move to your own site.

The problem with creating a personal e-commerce site is that it is hard to get people to eyeball it.

But that does not mean that you should discount it.

What I suggest is that you still create it but also sell your items on established auction and e-commerce sites. That way, you can have a ready clientele. They may or may not buy your item but they will see it, and then after finishing a deal, suggest to them (buyers) that you have your own site that they can go to personally if they ever wan to deal with you again.

That depends on the product you are selling.

If your product is for the end consumer, then going to auctions and putting up a site of your own would be alternatives. Though putting up a site would be more costly coz you would have to worry about the building the infrastructure from scratch, service quality, site maintenance, delivery, payment, inventory etc. It would be a big hastle, believe me, I've been there.

Going to an auction or merchant may be a better alternative. They may get a portion of your revenues but at least you wont have to worry about delivery, credit card payment and authorization etc. A good merchant will provide all of these.

If you are a supplier, I'd suggest changing your focus to a "business to business solution site" rather than entertaining a ecomm site you were talking about. Hope this was helpful.
