are you a first timer? if you are, it would be better if you get a personal trainer to monitor your lifts to avoid injuries. They would give you a diet and programs for weight gaining... They will also give you a fitness test to know your activity rate and could give you the proper start up program for you...
you don't just go to a gym and lift weights... it's not that easy... there's no specific aparatus or equipment which can give you automatic results... if you follow the programs and ate the right food then you'll be getting results in a two months time or more, depending on your metabolism. :) minimum of four times a week ang pag wowork out... if you go lesser than that, ma ba balewala din.

improvements on your body in terms of size and measurments will be notice after several months, depends on the body part. the arms are the quickest to gain mass and muscle while the chest may take you a few years to have really nice pecs.

your food intake will help you definitely. supplements are also a big help because they boost muscle endurance, while maximizing muscle gain.

also, muscles need rest in order to recuperate and grow. so better have a good rest in between workouts. split workouts are the best.

i recommend these products because i know they work, though they may be quite expensive:

Cytodyne Methoxy-Pro - protein drink, good for muscle repair and muscle gain

GNC Pro Performance Creatine - these come in capsules, powder, or tablet forms. good for over-all weight gain, muscle endurance

Muscletech Hydroxycut - rapid weight loss, very effective thermogen, best for 'ripping'

Muscletech Nitro Tech, and Meso Tech protein bars - very effective yet very expensive

hey...

tanong ko naman tungkol sa hydroxycut... sabi nila delikado daw ang isang ingredient dito... ephadra or ephadrine yata... am not sure kung totoo ito...

pero ang tanong ko, effective ba talaga iyo? plano ko kasing bumili ng hydroxycut, pero ayoko naman mag-aksaya ng pera sa walang kwentang bagay... well, plano kong samahan ng work out iyong hydroxycut... or will it be better kung hydroxycut na lang muna, then gym na lang susunod? what dya think?

i suppose you're talking about ephedrine. well, it basically is the main reason why it works because of this ingredient. ephedrine, ephedra, or ma huang increases your body's BMR (basal metabolic rate). with regards to it being detrimental to your health, i think it varies from person to person. i haven't personally heard any stories of severe health problems caused by hydroxycut. palpitations, though, may be experienced after taking it. i suggest that taking it in moderation won't be harmful.

and yes, it's very effective. but you have to do it continuously. one bottle wouldn't suffice.

they're not available in drugstores. GNC carries them sometimes (mahirap sa GNC, minsan meron, minsan wala). i suggest Cutting Edge at Robinson's Galleria Body Place. they have everything.

bishop is right. i know people who have lost weight taking xenadrine.

its not however, recommended for people with heart problems because it can cause palpitations which may lead a heart attact or worse, death. the reason why supplements that contain potential deadly substances are still in the market here in the US is because congess, after heavy lobbying by drug manufacturers passed a law a few years back that drugmakers dont have to test their products before selling them as long as it doesnt contain a known harmful substance (yes, our taxes are indeed working for us).

60 minutes did a segment on this last year when one person reportedly died after taking a dietary supplement that contained ma huang. the manufacturer of that one particular dietary supplement (whos brand name escapes me) argued that the death is an isolated case.

Dude go to the Hobbies and Recreation forum, and go to the "bodybuilding" thread. They can help you there, they sure helped me.

whatever you're program is, whether it is weight gain, or weight loss, i suggest you drink protein shakes. it is meant to repair muscles faster, thus muscle growth increases. it won't make you gain substantial weight, nor will it make you lose weight. it's mainly for muscle repair.

i plan to make up a custom fat reduction program. does anyone know of a site that lists different exercises for the equipment available in the gym?

for fat-loss programs, i suggest you do a lot of cardio with strength training. no matter how much you lift weights, or pump iron, the fat won't go away. cardiovascular exercises (i.e. running, aero, jogging, etc) will trim down those flabby parts.

with regards to the equipments available in gyms, most gyms now carry a lot of machines which have specific functions (i.e. for the chest, back, etc). so you don't have to learn other exercises. just use the machines as directed and it's going to work for you. ont he other hand, about freeweights (i.e. dumbells, barbells, easy-curl bars, etc) there are a lot of variations of exercises. just consult the trainers in your gym who i'm sure will be willing to lend you a hand.
