Going home to Manila

I was just wondering...

If a Filipino Expat wanted to come home, it's almost a certainty that he or she won't be earning as much in Manila (as a local hire). I'm guessing that this is true especially if this person is either staff or a low-level manager in the foreign country.

What kind of drop-off in salary should this person expect? 30%? 50%? 75%?

The truth is money is good in other countries... but nothing beats family and home.

hello! are you trying to compare the possible salary of a low level manager in a foreign country, as compared to an expat in the same industry, and the same position? can you give some specifics if you dont mind? what country would the foreign job be in? what specific industry are we talking about? what exact position and department are you targeting?

i suggest that you just start a business instead of looking for another job.. you'll take a risk anyway..

I'm thinking along the lines of a low-level manager in an IT consulting company (from Singapore) moving to Manila to take a mid-level managerial position in the IT division of a non-consulting company (multinational or local).

Actually, what I'm really wondering is how much of a pay-cut should I expect (given this scenario)?

So far, all my inquiries (through friends) have resulted in "Don't come home, the economy is really bad, you're better off where you are."

But every time I come home for a visit, I just keep reaffirming my belief that there's no place like Manila. It's so corny it makes me sick. But it's true.

i also want to quit my job here (overseas) and just go back to manila. like you, my all my friends and relatives think im silly to give up my job here. so im really confused... :(
