hey! i just graduated and passed the board exams. i always thought that because of the number of persons with disabilities around me, there would always be work for PT's. Now, i'm starting to think that i might be wrong.:(
Is there anyone out there who could help me with my problem? i really want to serve but i can't do that with an empty pocket. Thanx!:)

Hi ! congratulation for passing the recent exam! Im a PT grad too..batch 2000!! the only advise i can give u is that if your seeking a career in PT..well i suggest u volunteer first so u can gain enough clinical experience..most jobs requires at least 2 years of actual exp esp abroad..
im working as a med transcriptionist right now and most of us here are PT grads..we all have the same problem...job....and fortunately this job fits to medical courses though you spend most of your time in front of the computer..but its ok...for as long as ur earning well and u dont need to have empty pocket! :D

Hi Congratulations!
If you desire to work abroad for your career. You can prepare for it while working/seeking work back at home. The FSBPT, the US PT governing body, has some guidelines on how to apply for a license in the US. Just check-out the link to the specific state you'd like to apply for, http://www.fsbpt.org . For exam tips, questions, copies of sample questionnaires and recalled exam questions check-out http://www.therapyed.com . The discussion forum there would give you an insight on how the PT's in the US are preparing for the licensure exam. Our kababayans there can be both informative and comical. Goodluck!

leamich: kamusta na officemate? sabi na nga ba parang kilala kita... bigay ka naman ng advice sa mga patients sa What's up Doc (PT thread)...
mama_roach: congrats for passing the boards? ano school mo? meron akong mga kasama sa hospital na vinovolunteeran ko ng mga newly passers sa boards din...
my advice? look for a hospital/clinic that gives a flexible sked for you to volunteer (3x a week, 4x) so that you would have time to pick up parttime work (usually patients... if you have doctor friends, the better so the docs could refer you to the patients... a bestfriend does that and at times he gives me patients pag di nya kaya demand or lack of time)...
let's face it, mahirap talaga maggive ng effort for volunteer kasi walang financial return, just a piece of paper (this seems revolting at times for me... pero tyaga lang)... but who knows di ba? I made the mistake of leaving a clinic I volunteered at two years ago for medical transcription... 4 months after I left they were looking for staff PTs...sayang yun. but now, since unti-unti na dumadami ang offers (ads) for PTs in the UK, Ireland and US (kahit pooling karamihan) ... who knows di ba?
totoo ang demographics sa ibang bansa na dumadami ang mga elderly at tumatanda na mga baby boomers (people born in the 60s, late 70s) hence the need for PT as a thrifty way to get people out of harms' way from the deleterious effects of diseases, etc. so who knows? the demand of PTs used to be so high sa states, naudlot lang dahil di na sinagot ng gov.'t ang subsidy for PT care. hintay ka lang... keep the faith.
try registering at job websites for PTs para up to date ka rin sa mga requirments ng PTs for US states... try www.ihiretherapy.com
maki-tsika ka na rin sa PT thread sa What's up doc thread... the others are most welcome.... good luck to you
