Reese chooses Subic for call center operation
The country's English-speaking population remains an attraction for investors in the ICT (information and communications technology) arena as US-based Reese Brothers, Inc. recently poured in $400,000 for a call center facility at the Subic Bay Freeport.

Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman Felicito C. Payumo said in a recent statement that Reese's investments would not only generate thousands of jobs but also strengthen the envisioned Cyber Subic for the freeport.

The chairman earlier made statements about the long-term vision for Subic as a telecommunications hub, given its three-way global connectivity: fiber optic cable, satellite transmission and microwave uplink services.

"Subic has the advantage (to attracting investors as the freeport) offers complete telecommunications facilities," Mr. Payumo said in the statement.

Aside from the telecom infrastructure, Subic also has a total community package such as skilled workers, adequate housing facilities for employees and managers and other IT infrastructure as required by a company like Reese.

Chief executive officer and co-founder of the Reese Brothers Communications and Commerce Ralph Reese noted that it was the Filipinos' ability to speak good English and computer literacy as a major factor in considering the Philippines, particularly Subic, as an investment site.

"We will empower our workers with skills and talents that would make them among the most effective in the industry to safeguard the integrity, productivity and ultimate success of Reese in Subic," said Mr. Reese also in the statement.

Reese will be using the Subic operation as a backup unit for its 14 call center operations in the US. The firm is handling inbound voice, e-mail (electronic mail), online chat inquiries and other telemarketing services. It will be employing 2,000 Filipino workers in its first year of operations. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo herself assured the US call center firm of support in ensuring the level-playing field.

Reese likewise entered a sub-lease agreement with Crown Peak Estate Developers, Inc. Mr. Payumo said Crown Peak will be remitting 50% of Reese's monthly rental to SBMA.

Reese will be occupying 1,222 square meter of the hotel's ballroom center for the call center and its hotel rooms to house some employees and managers.

Reese Brothers has been in direct marketing in the US since 1974. The company has been consistently ranked as one of the top 10 largest private teleservices firms in the US. -
