Hello,

Im a fresh graduate of computer science. If there's anyone out there who works at Amkor Tech or who knows anything about the company, could you please tell me a little bit about it?

Also, I'm taking its engineering technical exams in a couple of days. It sounds a bit intimidating. Could somebody please give me an idea of what the exam is about? What sort of skills/topic areas are included?

Thank you

If you would manage to get employed, magiging magkapitbahay tayo..

Amkor pays good but they retrench employees without remorse.. (that's what i heard..)

computer science ka di ba? mas maganda, pasok ka na lang sa IT. mas mataas pa ang compensation.

but to answer your question, yes, amkor is a relatively good company. not sure though kung yung Amkor Anam is the same as the Amkor Tech. or ito yung new name nnya.

Honestly, If I were you, I would rather pursue an IT Field and work in Makati.. Medyo maliit ang salary sa Manufacturing compared sa iba. sabihin ko lang coz i have a friend who used to work at Amkor pero he was retrenched 2 years after and he got a retirement package (which is NOT BAD *okay*) but he hasn't had any job eversince..
Kunwari nagtatrabaho ka ngayon, tapos sasabihin sa yo na you should better pack your things up next week dahil you got retrenched.. :(
Okay sya kung sa okay pero the Job Security is not that IntaCT among its employees. Nonetheless, Okay pa rin jan..

My thoughts exactly! But more than the higher salary, I think IT is much more exciting than manufacturing. I'll also be able to use more of what I learned in school if I go into IT than if I went into manufacturing.

On working in Makati, I'm really crossing my fingers. I live in Makati, by the way. I actually had to wake up at 5:30 am to get to Amkor in time for my exam. Whew!!!

Just wondering, where are there more IT companies, Makati or Libis?

I've been a consultant for Amkor Anam way back 1996. Sa AS400 ako nag-work. They have their own set or programmers pero they don't trust them as much as they trust their consultants. Kaya most of the IT load, sa consultants napupunta. Their pay is good (at that time) pero hindi maganda ang professional growth since limited ang experience na makukuha mo. 6 years ago, P12K na ang starting nila sa mga programmers nila. As a consultant (programmer trainee) for a software house, I was just earning P5K (I know it's too small but the experience and training I got was priceless). I would suggest working as a programmer trainee sa mga software houses for a few years. As I've always said, nothing beats live projects for training. Maliit kita sa simula but you have to think long term. This, coming from a small time Project Manager for a software solutions company in the US

Try Makati, Libis and Ortigas Center.

Marami pa rin diyan sa Makati. Try the ones in Enterprise Center, Philam Building and Citibank Tower. Maraming companies sa Enterprise and Citibank that aren't call centers. Ang philam, so far I know 2 major call centers who hold office there.

Amkor in Sucat or Laguna?

oh well, from what I heard.. this retrenchment thingy is just their way of kicking the bum of those highly paid workers then they will hire new employees and will offer lower income..

company survival strategy, if I may say..

Good Luck
