Misery Index of Companies in the Philippines

hey guys... patulong lang sana kami for our thesis on the misery index of publicly listed companies in the philippines. if you have any ideas please feel free to share them with us... it would really be of big help. thanks... :)

What are you trying to accomplish? Some measure of how terribly the businesses are doing?

You might consider a combination of some of the more readily available indicators:

- decreases in net income or increases in net losses;
- decreases in gross revenue;
- percentage of employees retrenched or laid off;
- costs associated with closing down or reduction of operations;
- number of labor lawsuits initiated against the company during the year;
- default rate on outstanding borrowings;
- decrease in cash position;

This is a start. Feel free to make it more sophisticated as your resources permit.

May I ask what data you guys are planning to get for your thesis? By the nature of your topic, expect the companies to eb very sensitive about the data you'll need from them...

Where'd you guys get this idea anyway?

hindi pa nga namin alam kung naaprove na *** topic namin about the results of operations comparing it with misery index of those companies... pero we're considering to relate it to any of the ideas you gave, kuyadanny! :) thanks ulit..

There is a misery index which is sometimes used in the US. It is the sum of the inflation rate and the unemployment rate. It is a political measure, not an economic one, and is used as one indicator of how badly the citizens might be feeling about the economy,

It is still not clear to me what your index is trying to measure.

Does this misery index of yours relate to bankruptcy prediction?

If yes, research kayo on things like Altman's Z-score which was an MDA approach on banruptcy prediction...

nope... bankruptcy is not included in our topic but it is somehow show a certain relationship... it is possible that misery index which could predict a company's possible bankruptcy... pero that's not our topic eh... :) we're still working on it... pero we're focusing on investor confidence.... thanks pala sa idea.. :)
