I'm not so sure about the title of the upcoming film, but definitely, this movie topbills Asia's Songbird and queen of Romantic Movies REGINE VELASQUEZ and Christopher De Leon.

There's also an upcoming soundtrack for this film also, since Regine already sang LAST SUNDAY (SOP) the movie theme.

Kahit married na ang mga leading men niya, may chemistry pa rin sila, from Boyet to Aga to Robin to Goma.

Yes, I don’t know if they already changed the movie title to “Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka”, from what I’ve heard it’s still Blue Café and yes Dingdong dantes is in the movie. :)

Bah may pang MMFF 2003 na siya, ala Moulin Rouge to be directed by Joel Lamangan.

"Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka"
composer: Ogie Alcasid
by: Regine Velasquez

Akong makapiling at ibigin
O kay sarap na magising
Na Tayong dalawa ay iisa ang damdamin
Ako'y hinihiling na sabihin mo
Ang nilalaman nitong iyong puso

Chorus:
Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka

At di magwawakas
ohhhhhh....

Chorus:
Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka

Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka is having their premier night on the 10th of June, I heard, along with all the other entries. Sa SM Manila daw yung Premiere Night.

This movie is really a promising one. Very colorful and it seems very light-hearted. Well, based on the trailers anyway. As compared to the other MFF nominees, this movie looks like it has a fighting chance for the Best Picture title. IMHO, the only competition would be MAQ Production's Sanib.

I hope Regine can add another Best Actress acclaim in this one.

eto review..

As wholesome as Regine’s milk-and-cookies image

STAR BYTES by Butch Francisco
The Philippine Star 05/29/2003

If there’s one thing Regine Velasquez should be thankful about, it is that – aside from being the most popular singer today – she’s also a box-office star who doesn’t have to romp naked on screen for her films to make money.

Her latest movie, Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigan Ka (an entry to the forthcoming Manila Film Festival) is still as wholesome as her milk and cookies image.

In this movie, Regine plays a curio shop/café owner looking for the right man to share her life with. For a while, she goes steady with Dingdong Dantes, but realizes eventually that his carefree ways are not for her.

Then she meets Christopher de Leon whom she first spots at the wake of his departed wife. (She was only passing by the chapel where Christopher’s wife was lying in state when she laid eyes on him.)

Eventually, they meet – in a cemetery of all places – and get to know each other. They hit it off immediately since Christopher is rigid and forever proper – a perfect foil to Regine’s kookiness. She is obviously in love with him – and so is he, except that he can’t seem to get over the death of his wife.

When Regine is all about ready to throw in the towel, he predictably realizes his mistake and runs after her and everyone’s happy in the end.

The movie’s synopsis – as you have read – doesn’t try to solve the problem of global terrorism. Neither does it analyze the origins of the much-dreaded SARS.

It’s a frothy love story and nothing else – and you just have to accept it as such. Well, at least, it doesn’t pretend to be anything other than that.

But as a light romance, it succeeds all the way given all the elements of a kilig love story: a fancy top-down car used by de Leon (a la Cary Grant), an escape to a cozy Tagaytay resort, etc. – everything love-struck couples dream of.

Other types of audiences would also appreciate the family values (again, this is always inculcated in all Regine Velasquez films) that are depicted (and it’s no hard-sell) in the film. I particularly like, for instance, the way Regine looks after her grandfather (played by Rudy Francisco – yes, the lolo of Gina and Karen in that McDonald’s commercial).

Even Regine’s relationship with her parents (Noel Trinidad and Marissa Delgado) should be emulated. In one sequence, for example, Regine has an argument with Noel. But even if she reasons out with her father (she is of age, after all), not once does she lose her respect for him. In fact, it is she who tries to appease him in the end. These little details are what would appeal to most viewers of Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka.

And whatever it may lack in substance, the film more than makes up for in form. Technically, this film is very competent. Its director, Louie Ignacio (who’s making his movie debut here) obviously poured all his extensive training on television (he directs S.O.P.) into this film.

Particularly noteworthy are the colors used in the film, which prove to be a feast for the eyes. The production design is highly commendable if only for the fact that it goes through such painstaking efforts to make the movie visually appealing – but still in a correct way.

The house used by Regine’s family in the movie, for instance, is old. But her bedroom is dressed up with a lot of accessories – and this is just right because, after all, she sells knickknacks in the story, doesn’t she?

Some of the lines are also crisp and funny and these are all engagingly delivered by a fine cast of supporting players: Dingdong Dantes, Noel, Marissa, Rudy Francisco, John Lapus, Gladys of Gladys and the Boxers, Lara Fabregas, and Shintaro Valdes.

Rosemarie Gil, as always, does well, except that it is a bit disconcerting to viewers who are all too familiar with her voice that she had been dubbed by someone else (I think it’s Lucy Quinto). The same thing also happened to Noel Trinidad in some parts of the movie.

Regine Velasquez’ performance, of course, is a crowd-pleaser. However, I was hoping that the director wouldn’t allow her to go overboard in some of her scenes that require her to be funny. (She was very good in her dramatic moments though.)

And sure, the film sticks to the tried and tested formula, but fortunately, it still works and would definitely be appreciated by Regine’s legions of fans. And I bet this is going to be another blockbuster hit – again without Regine disrobing for the part.

Oops, I think she did at one point when she had to bare her back (upper part only) as a preparatory to a love scene with Christopher.

But believe me when I tell you that Regine – even with a bare back – still comes out looking like Julie Andrews’ Maria von Trapp in The Sound of Music.

watched this last night
all in all, okay siya...

only...parang may kulang

most of the elements present in the past movies was also in this one pero i left the theater feeling na may kulang...

[spoilers...those who plan to watch the movie might not want to read beyond this point]

...siguro sa exposition ng story and characters? kasi pinakita yong nangyayari sa kay regine, pero kay christopher parang kulang. parang hindi pinakita yung process that he fell for her. even the ending seemed to come so abruptly. sayang kasi maganda na iyong ginawa nila sa premise, ok na iyong story line at mas mapapaganda at mapapalalim pa iyong story... but instead half-baked lumabas. (even the subplot on lara fabregas was halfbaked din).
... compared with regine's past movies parang mas madami itong MTV moments (at the third one, feeling ko na "musical" yung pinapanood ko...in fact parang confused yung gumawa kung musical ba ang ginagawa niya or movie). medyo hard sell yata yung soundtrack in this movie (yun lang ang naiisip kong dahilan for showing all those mtv-like moments. they could've used those to further expound on the characters of the story.) mas mahirap tuloy ipasok ulit iyong sarili mo sa character after those mtv moments kasi medyo di na believable. start pa lang may "mtv" na. hmmmmm.
...may isa pang kulang: "magic" siguro. yung director kaya ang dahilan for this? parang kulang sa subtlety iyong mga falling-in-love scenes. parang masyadong "in your face". yung ibang kuha kay regine naman, makes her look "funny" (as in weird). then, iyong ibang dialogues and "little side comments" were supposed to be funny pero instead they sounded "trying hard to be funny". so i really dont know if it was the director or the script that was "a little off".

but all in all...
did i like the movie? yup.
uulitin ko ba panoorin ito? i won't mind if i had to watch it again.
how would i rate it compared to her other films? second to the last. (last being ikaw lamang hanggang ngayon).
and the soundtrack: regine is great, as usual. if the songs i heard on the movie are on it, sulit ang soundtrack.

Bad movies make me cry
Manila Filmfest’s top-grossing film is a throwback to the old days when movies made by Sampaguita Pictures also ruled the box office.

Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka is an old-fashioned romantic comedy about a woman who finds herself in love with a recent widower. There’s nothing wrong with this premise, after all, there may be hundreds of women who experience the same thing.

However, directing newbie Louie Lagdameo Ignacio seemed to have forgotten he was supposed to do a full-length narrative film and not a music video, something he is used to do for his star, Regine Velasquez.

Why, every so often, Ignacio treats his audience (of mostly fans of the singer, whose fanaticism numbs their mind into simply accepting the images they see on the screen) with a music-video set to one of the songs in what Viva so proudly heralds as the “original soundtrack.” Even the opening credit is an abbreviated music video.

The movie betrays Ignacio’s creative breadth. In fact, it shows us how limited his imagination is, more specifically in treating the characters. His principal characters are no more than abominable stereotypes: Alex, an unconventionally wacky swooning mid-to late-20’s woman in search of her ideal man, and Raffy, a serious entrepreneur who can’t get over his wife who has died. It would have been more interesting if Raffy was the unconventional wacky guy but can’t get over a dead wife, and Alex, a traditional woman who can’t see herself marrying a widower. Well, I should have written this movie.

I don’t have to detail each and every loathsome scene that seems to affirm my belief that the local movie industry is generally a retardate, intellectually.

A case in point is how Regine Velasquez interprets Alex. To her, she’s a girl straight out of a sitcom, giggly girlish, maybe a retardate considering her biological age. Figuring out how someone who seems as decent a man like Raffy (which to my surprise is played with restraint by Christopher de Leon, who is cartoonist Beth Chionglo’s favorite actor) can actually fall for someone as crass as Alex gives me a severe migraine.

Regine is no Goldie Hawn or Meg Ryan who can play wacky women with aplomb and you love them in the end. I didn’t feel the same for Regine after watching Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka.

Big market for bad movies

It seems that the market for bad romantic comedy is big in this country. It’s perhaps bigger than the market for gross out comedies in the mold of Tanging Ina. Already, Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka is running away to be this season’s top-grossing movie, besting special-effects laden Sanib and Bertud ng Putik.

The market’s proclivity for romantic interludes between two stars on screen is a convenient excuse of movie producers to plough in money to bad romantic comedies, encouraging first-time directors to make the movie as corny as possible. The more the corn, the better for the cash registers.

Ignacio made sure the movie is stuffed with tons and tons of corn. From the lavish but tacky production design to the overwrought dramatic confrontations and down to the ending, the movie spells nothing but b..a…d.

I don’t know, but if things go on this way, this country is really headed for a real intellectual disaster.

Sobrang panlalait naman 'to. :sob:

I don't really care what those friggin critics say. At the end of the day, it's the entertainment value of the movie that counts.

I would very much rather get out of the cinemas with a smile on my face than to have myself exhausted by the never-ending gunfights and screaming from the other movies in the MFF.

It's a nice relief from the sex and violence on the big screen.

sadly, i agree with many of isah red's statements about louie ignacio. sa tingin ko siya talaga ang dapat panagutin kung bakit kulang kulang iyong movie. promising talaga iyong storyline pero sinayang niya iyong opportunity. imho hindi na siya dapat kunin ulit for movies: mtv nalang.

i do disagree with some of his statements: for a long time, regine really suited this particularly genre (romantic comedies). and the kooky role does suit her. however, there must have been something "off" with the material in this one, kaya nagmukha siyang "alangan" para sa role.
there were really some shots that were unflattering and distracting: yung hindi mo alam bakit kinunan pa at pinakita on film. if a film is made well, you wouldn't even think twice about why this particular shot is being shown: not so, on this film. kung may pagkakamali si regine, it's probably trusting in this director too much, and not inspecting the material as closely as she should have.

as a longtime fan of regine, i sincerely hope she chooses her next movie more wisely, i hope that the script will be as seamlessly written as her earlier films, and that the director is one who is versed with the genre s/he is working with. even the best actresses can look flawed with an inept director.

IT was the director's and editor's fault. From what my friends have told me, a lot of stuff has been edited out! Kaya daw nawala yung story kasi hindi magaling yung editor! I saw the rough draft of this movie and IT SEEMED really good! Kaya nga sinali ng VIVA sa filmfest! SADLY yung director was not good, it should have been YAM na lang or Joyce, tapos dami pang inedit out :( kaya ala na...

BTW IGNACIO din daw last name ng editor...

well wish ko lang wag na kunin ni Regine si Louie next time... At least her next movie will be directed by Lamangan yata? Yung may day eve

Marya Ignacio yung pangalan nung editor ng Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka.

In a rough estimate, I think mga 45% of the story-laden scenes ended up in the cutting room floor. Sayang talaga.

Promising sana si Louie as a Director eh, but he treated the movie more like an MTV than a major motion picture, kaya nasira. Hope he learns a lesson from this.

Since Regine has already proven herself as an actress, time and again, she ought to work with directors who can really squeeze her acting talents para mas effective.

Partial list of great directors Regine should work with:
1. Joel Lamangan
2. Marilou Diaz Abaya
3. Jose Javier Reyes
4. Laurice Guillen

Though I am a big fan of Regine, I noticed na laging parang kulang sa conflict or kulang sa substance ang mga latest movies niya kagaya ng "Pangako..Ikaw Lang", "Ikaw Lamang Hanggang Ngayon" and "Pangarap Ko Ang Ibigin Ka".

I yearn for the days when we'll be treated to something substantial kagaya ng "Wanted: Perfect Mother", "Dahil May Isang Ikaw" and even "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw".

But I am happy that Regine Velasquez always flattens the competition whenever her movies are released. :)

at least next movie ni Regine is with Joel Lamangan na.. *okay*

i wonder if these boards are read by anyone close to regine... sana makarating yung constructive criticisms kasi with inferior scripts and directors, it's not just the stars who suffer, but most specially the public who go to watch these movies. we deserve better films.

excerpt: "I'm just surprised someone wrote I'm angry with our
director, Louie Ignacio, because I'm not happy with the film at dapat
daw si Joyce Bernal ang nagdirek. That's not true at all. I'm more
than pleased with it and I'd like to work with him again. First time
kong sumali sa filmfest and number one pa."- Regine V.

SOMEBODY STOP HER!!!

Manila Filmfest's biggest crowd drawer

"PANGARAP Ko ang Ibigin Ka," the romantic comedy starring Regine Velasquez and Christopher de Leon, has emerged as the biggest grossing entry in this year's Manila Film Festival. The Viva movie immediately took the top spot when the Filmfest opened last June 11 and has since maintained its position as the leader among the six entries. It will be recalled that Viva also fielded the festival top-grosser last year with the movie "Magkapatid," which starred Sharon Cuneta, Christopher de Leon and Judy Ann Santos.

"Pangarap" marks the big-screen debut of TV and stage director Louie Ignacio. Written by Mel del Rosario, it tells the story of a woman who does everything possible to win the love of a very special man. Regine is Alex, a kooky painter and dealer in previously-owned items who has fallen for widower Raffy. Christopher plays Raffy, a prim and proper businessman who can't deal with the death of his wife. How he finally realizes that he has also fallen in love with Alex is what the movie is all about.

Movie-goers are giving the same support to "Pangarap" that they gave Regine and Christopher's first team-up, "Wanted Perfect Mother," some years ago. This success maintains that Regine is now indeed one of the country's biggest box-office stars and that Christopher is still local filmdom's number one leading man. It also augurs well for Ignacio's new career as film director. Louie is now working on his second movie, "Annie Batungbakal," which will star Jolina Magdangal.

"Pangarap" also stars Dingdong Dantes, William Martinez, John Lapus, Lara Fabregas, Gladys Guevarra, Rosemarie Gil, Rudy Francisco, Marissa Delgado, Noel Trinidad, Shintaro Valdez and Martin Jickaine. The soundtrack album featuring songs from the movie led by the theme composed by Ogie Alcasid and performed by Regine is now available from Viva Records.
