all our essential baby stuffs (the new ones) were bought in juan luna and ylaya street in divisoria. diapers, frog suits, 'kimono' shirts, 'going-out dress', baptismal attire, etc. are much much cheaper there than in dept stores.
'heavy equipment' like strollers, cribs and feeding chairs can be bought segunda-mano. look for a young family that has no plans of having another baby. buy it from them. suggested stroller/crib brand is 'graco'.
buy pigeon or evenflo bottles. get a breast pump so that the mother can collect her fist discharge (colostrum). this is essential for a healthy baby.
by the way, have you checked your finances for delivery? make sure you're budgetted for a caesarian section (just in case). request for a new-born screen test (around Php 800) and the usual shots that should come right after delivery.
vaccinations will come every 1 to 1 1/2 months for the next TWO YEARS. cost per vaccination can be from Php 500 to Php 2,000, in the case of multiple vaccines in one session.
that's one thing you don't read in most how-to books, THE FINANCE ASPECT OF CHILD REARING.

i think either SM department stores or Robinsons offer a good enough price, considering the quality.
Check out Regina's in greenhills also, they sometimes have a sale on imported baby rompers.
baby & co. also has affordable bottles, milk containers, etc.
for diapers, in QC, hi-top, crossings and parco have the cheapest diapers i think. Try out Drypers for the day and Mamy Poko for nights. Drypers come out the same price as kimbies, but so much better performance. Mamy poko is quite expensive (~15/pc) but really nice -- it doesn't smell in the morning, and it doesn't leak. (i think it has a capacity of 15 hours). this is about the same price as huggies dry-fit, but better performance.

dude, shops in divisoria have no names. rather, they cluster in recognizable 'strips', whether along the road (shop houses) or inside those dark and steaming 'pasillos'. spend one whole day walking around. be sure you're dressed plainly with no 'snatchable' things like cell phones, bracelets and purses. park your car in the tutuban parking building.

Accept all the hand-me-downs that you can get. Clothes are always welcome because babies grow so fast that expensive clothing will definitely go to waste.
As for baby "furniture" (cribs, strollers, play pens, bouncers, etc.), if you can't borrow, don't go for the really expensive ones UNLESS you plan to have more than 1 child and you think it's worth the investmen. But you can always find the same quality for a cheaper price but less known brand. You just have to be matiyaga with looking.
Good luck!!

geekhead, most big supermarkets in the Phils. carry infant milk on their shelves - like SM Supermarkets. They're everywhere. Usually, infant milk formulas are separate from the usual milk (like Nido, Anchor, etc.) so you wouldn't make a mistake.
Most drug stores carry these infant milk formulas too, but I guess they're a bit overpriced (not so much). Sometimes if a popular milk brand is out-of-stock in supermarkets I buy them in drug stores.

Btw, I find most "baby items" (including clothes, cribs, strollers, etc.) at SM Department Stores comparatively cheaper. If you don't want to go to Divisoria (baby clothes there are really cheap), you can go to SM and find relatively good-priced clothes and other baby items.

There's a place in bel-air makati that sells baby clothes. it was recommeded here by my friends s..
they sell locally-made shirts, onsies, bibs, etc like carters and peter rabbit. best thing is they're cheap, as in a shirt would cost 30 pesos lang! onesies cost 60 pesos! ok naman material.
here's the address:
48 zodiac st.
bel-air 3
896-4802
they're open everyday, 8am - 7pm. look for manang vicky.
