Thanks guys... I already saw a rice in a box shop in one of our canteens... and I give it some thought. :D
As for the network gaming... I think it is not as profitable as it used to be... I know one or two networking gaming shops near my college that are already closed or transfer and one selling his store rights... so... :( Thanks very much for the idea still :)
wpg... I'll pm you as soon as I see it is available... in the mean time... if you can give a me txt number or other source of communication... I would love to talk with you.
Guys... please continue helping this newbie out... :shy:

One thing you can do is, instead of coming up with just one idea, think of several feasible ideas. Then apporach the business/management/commerce department of your school and see if they can give you advise on how to prepare a business plan. More than just means of raising money from investors, business plans put your ideas into a more realistic perspective and give you and others a chance to be critical about them. Some ideas may sound great when you think of it, or when other people talk about it, but they may not be so great after having them go through a more thorough analysis.
Off the top of my mind, the ideas you may want to consider will depend on what your priorities are. When I was in college, classmate-entrepreneurs who prioritized their studies went into businesses like insurance or real estate sales simply because these allowed them to juggle their time more effectively in favor of their studies. After graduation, they either put up their own companies or joined the corporate sector.

Hey j_l_luy!
Like you, I'm a college student (in america) dreaming of starting a business. I know the real problem for us is getting the capital and our inexperience.
Today, me and a friend (my partner) brainstormed on possible venture with as little capital as possible.
We came up with a lot of ideas divided into food and others. We're thinking of making filipino dishes that aren't exactly the main course. For example, lumpia is a filipino dish but people don't have the time to make them so they just order it. We're still in the process of brainstorming. We already have the steps we need like 1.) idea 2.)survey 3.) evaluate survey 4.) research 5.) test product 6.) perfect product and finally 7.) market it. Again, our parameter is that it has to be a low capital venture.
I'll keep posting on how things are going.
Any comments or suggestions are welcome!

I run a network gaming shop and I can say that it's good, but I think that it's been on the decline lately so it may not be the best idea right now. The ROI is about 1-2 years but the downside is that the capital needed is huge (at least 1M if you're thinking of a shop with about 20-30 units.) and computers depreciate quickly. :|
Not to mention maintaining PCs is a nightmare.

yeah, my cousin runs a net shop too, and while it did very well before, it isn't as good now as it was then.
and net shop really requires a lot of your time, unless you're willing to hire a couple more employees to oversee things. not readily recommendable for students.
SILENTMAX has a good list of business options to consider, you could check them out :)
karl184, hey, you're in franchising too? curious lang when you started out, and how's it doing :) maybe you could call me at 0919-3813085. thanks.

why not try selling bags and wallets to your girl friends/female classmates? you can sell it in an installment basis... try to check items they sell in Greenhills and Tutuban. Check the bags and wallets, how much they sell it. I can recommend a place where you can buy these kinds of bags and wallets in much lesser price.

Hello! i would advise you to check first the prices they have in Tutuban and Greenhills. Actually, I am selling China made Class A bags and Wallets yung mga Prada, Gucci, Dior, Vuitton.
Then I email you my prices so you can compare. Better if you buy in volume. I can give it to you in wholesale price.
Email me at raisemyskirt@yahoo.com if you are intersted.
