hi!
i think it's kinda confidential yata the exact name of the account pero anyway, it's a telecom. :blah2: Ikaw?
actually, had the job interview last Jan. 4, pero i still have a current job kaya i opted for a later start of training... I hope to see ya there when we start our training. dba, lahat ng CCR lang located in Alabang and Makati, TSRs yata pati Ortigas and Commonwealth pero not in Alabang. ayt?
Hey, hope to know ya better. Para ill have a very first friend sa Convergys. Sna it's really fun to work there.

I'm about to start my training pa lang po on Feb. I honestly can't comment re salary increase and stuff like that.

and one more thing, though im not a friend of ramie's, i really don't think he deserves this kind of treatment from you guys. Try to get to know him better, before passing judgement oki?

well, apart from the name-calling, if there were any, all the things stated about ramie rosima are true. those comments came from different employees that don't know each other so you can't say those people were ganging up on him. moreover, all their posts were all based from what they experienced with ramie rosima.

As my title implies, our number one problem with attrition is that the offers of other call centers that are not as stable and big as ours is the moolah and benefits. We are, admittedly, slipping lower and lower.

there's word that the salary for the tech acct (ISP) will be getting a boost, from the current 13k to..... what?

is that applicable only to those who are with/ are regular in CVG? how about some of us who are only about to start but has already signed a contract with that package?

The way i see it, the salary offer for newbies are ok lang, not above the rate compared with other companies... Some would even think it's kinda mababa. (ok na sakin though) I don't even know about the increase kc dun sa contract where i signed, it didn't mention increase after being regularized. I just know there will be quaterly bonus lang.

i'd beg to differ (if you dont mind).

the job i'll be doing as TSR for Convergys is exactly the same work i did for another call center i came from.

and i got 16k as the basic.

from the feedback i get from my friends who has worked from the company i came from and is now with Convergys they say they're doing exactly the same kind of work and a little bit more than the previous company we came from.

so logic follows that CVG should pay agents more, specially if they came from a job that's exactly the same.

JMHO.

read my post again.

i said 16k was my salary from my last job, not with convergys.

the conversation was about justifying an increase for TSR salary at CVG, specially for those whose last job was the exact same function as what we'll be doing for CVG.

13k is a paltry sum for the kind of work CVG demands for. specially if you've got previous experience

My friends and I passed our resumes last week when our school had a job fair. They scheduled us for testing on Monday, 11:30am and asked us to arrive 30 minutes earlier. All they mentioned was that we're gonna undergo call simulation (as you guys mentioned here as well) and then a friend of mine added they're gonna test you on your Math (?) and English proficiency.

What is it that we need to prepare for us to be able to pass the call sim? Are we suppose to listen really really carefully and treat "customers" as kings? This thread xe is too long na, I was able to read up to the 16th page lang.

first, you dont have to talk during the call sim,all you have to do is listen carefully and avoid repeating the call as much as possible, another tip is to take your time..20 minutes ata un e mga 10 lang ata *** questions.. ako kse i finished ahead of time e kala ko kukulangin sa oras

bsta wag magmadali..just listen carefully for the account numbers that the callers will give you and all you have to do afterwards is to rate *** responses..bsta madali lang sya..well explained naman *** instructions before the exam..

yes there is definitely night differential of 20%. like overtime and premium pay, ND is required by the law (although charter only dictates 10%) and is not part of the contract. this will be discussed during your new hire orientation.

the employment contract includes only the basic pay and the allowances covered in your offer. :)

Hi CVG people!

I saw the multiple page hiring advertisement of CVG in the CC section of the Manila Bulletin[Feb.27]. The content of Convergys' hiring advertisement has improved since it gives more details on the job description. It also got my thorough attention.

There seems a vacancy for Customer Care Representatives that is related to inbound sales or outbound sales?

Here is the job description["dimension and scope"] with my queries enclosed in parenthesis with a question mark:

Customer Care Representatives[A new account?]-

Interface with customers with customers via inbound or outbound calls[inbound and outbound sales combined?] or the Internet[writing e-mails or Internet order processing?] for the purpose of passively[i.e. order taking] or actively selling products and services. Responsibilities include processing customer orders and sales; providing and receiving information[explaining the benefits of the product?]; up-selling client products[any incentives and commissions for agents?] plus handling miscellaneous customer service and general information via the phone or internet[writing e-mails?].

Thank you CVG HRD for giving out a more detailed description of the work. It got my interest!

I read somewhere here that CVG even pays out a quarterly bonus. Is this true?

Any information on the time of schedule shifts for this account?

Is this account serviced in CVG's Ortigas office? Ortigas is most accessible to me though I got used to working in Makati.

I appreciate any answers to my queries.

Thanks in advance!

I applied for CCR position last March 1[in the afternoon] and I took and passed the battery of tests on March 2[afternoon]. Just now, I passed the final interview this March 3[morning]. My orientation and job offer is tomorrow, March 4. I was informed I might be having my first day of training starting Monday[March 7]. "Parang ipo-ipo sa bilis ang application process na dinaanan ko" - best words to describe what happened to my jobhunting at Convergys.

Praiseworthy employment policy of Convergys:
The employment bond amount[pro-rated with your coverage period] and coverage period is reasonable. Convergys also does not impose a non-compete clause that bar you from the whole "contact center" industry like other "contact centers". Kudos to Convergys HRD for such reasonable policies that respects a persons right to employment within the whole BPO industry. Your HRD final interviewer was also meticulous during my final interview-something missed in other centers.

im really worried right now coz i really wanna work there even though i still have no idea how much the salary is... and i never knew about the non-compete clause until the HR from alabang told me so i reviewed my contract and there it was! i guess it was my fault coz i didnt review my contract before i signed it coz twas my first time to work in a cc before and i was so excited about it.... never knew there would so many hassles...

hey beepeeoo which convergys are you talking about coz theres one in makati and alabang and ortigas as welll... which one?

BeePeeOOO
Mar 3, 2005, 05:03 PM
Makati.

Remember guys and gals be very thorough in the examination of your non-compete clauses wherever you want to work for. They come in many forms and some are onerous! This onerous contracts ban you from working from the whole "contact center" industry. Imagine this hypothetical situation, a former tech support staff being barred from working as a directory assistance staff in another center! If this happened in the United States, this abuse could have been a major issue.

Understand each word printed and do not rely on what the HRD of that "contact center" says but on how you interpret the wordings. There are "contact centers" that are evasive on explaining the total ban[for a certain period of time] from the whole "contact center industry" so as to make you easily sign such contract. I previously did a lot of study on contracts with my previous work.
Some non-compete clauses may only ban you from direct competitors of the account or the same account where you previously worked for and I find this reasonable. For example, if you worked for a credit card account/client, you are banned to work for the same account or another credit card account in another "contact center". To put it in another way, why train an agent and make him work for your account's competitor or the same account in another "contact center"?

Convergys gives you a reasonable bond and does not bind you to an onerous non-compete clause. Kudos to Convergys top management!

Greetings :kyle: , I'm new to the call center industry so I need a professional advice coming from you guys. I've tried applying with some of the prominent call centers sadly it was a bit intimidating and somewhat nerve-wracking for me since i'm an undergraduate and definitely not that excellent in terms of communications skills and not technical enough, I was turn down twice by etelecare. so i really admire all of you guys for landing a solid job, and take note it takes a lot of perseverance and determination, couple it up with multitasking and diplomatic strategies to say the least to be able to stand firm in that kind of work.coz' that's what i heard from some of my friends working in a call center.

Recently I've applied in clientlogic ortigas and fortunately i was given the job offer for technical support with a starting pay of 12k and 8oo transpo allowance but only to find out that Dell account will not push through another set of batch for training, so my status was left in the waiting list until further notice. then i tried applying in convergys alabang, it was definitely tough, it just shows how competitive the company is compare to others. thank God I passed all the screening and was given the job offer for customer care rep this march 7, then today i got a call from clientlogic telling me that the training will commence also this march 7 but this time a new account and that is sony, so im left here with the question as to what will be the best option for me. will it be clientlogic or convergys. guys i need your opinion on this one. thanks for the time Guys. God Bless.

My technique in getting hired is simple; I actually emphasized through coherent and detailed speech to the final interviewer that I work best in a certain industry, and my resume can attest to that. Fortunately it seems, that type of account has a training schedule that starts this coming March 7. Additionally, I thoroughly studied my previous researches on the BPOindustry on what type of candidate profile are hired for a certain account. I always find means of proving to the interviewer that I stand out from other applicants.

Yes "David James", it is normal, for top ranked BPO firms like CVG to hire only 4 out of 100 initial applicants. I was able to read and pore through a lot studies in the local BPO industry[when I was doing corporate research work] and this is within my 3 to 5 percent hiring range. During my stint in the financial industry I was always well-known for my "ka-astigan/armor-plated face" in extracting any information from company presidents, publications, and internet resources on anything about a certain industry or company. "Minsan nga naiisip ko sana nagsundalo at nag-PMA na lang ako nung bata pa ako at nagtrabaho bilang espiya ng pamahalaan."

Take note David James that those hired for training will also have further attrition during their basic training ans subsequently on their product training.

Please take the time to read this article which proves my point on the "hiring rate"[as it is called in "contact center" shop-talk]:

RP Call Center Growth to Drop in 2005
by Gregory Domingo, Undersecretary for Industry and Investments;
Department of Trade and Industry

Issue Date: October 11, 2004

E-mail Article Print Article Send FeedBack

THE headline of this column may come as a big surprise to many people but it seems that the call center industry is headed towards a much smaller growth rate starting next year. The saddest part of it all is that it is not for lack of demand for Philippine call center services. Just recently, the Philippines got another boost from an international survey showing our call centers as among the best rated worldwide. James Hookway wrote last week in The Asian Wall Street Journal that “the Philippines has several advantages over India” for call center services providers.

The problem lies in the Philippines’ inability to provide the appropriate human resources in rapidly increasing numbers to continue to fuel the massive growth rate. We just can’t satisfy demand.

The math is quite simple. Since 2001, the Philippine call center industry has been more than doubling every year.

Year No. of Seats
2001 3,500
2002 7,500
2003 20,000
2004 40,000 (est)

Each seat roughly translates to 1.5 agents which means that for 2004 alone 30,000 agents will be hired by this industry. This is confirmed by estimates that show the industry hiring about 3,000 agents per month today.

[B]The hiring rate, according to several call centers, is between 3% to 5% of applicants. Since the Philippines produces 380,000 college graduates per year, 5% or 19,000 per year would qualify as call center agents. We know that not all college graduates would desire to work as call center agents for one reason or another so the “hireable” college graduates are probably significantly less than 19,000. In order to fill the balance of the 30,000 requirement for 2004, the call center industry hires not only new college graduates but past college graduates (even if already employed) and, in increasing numbers, college students and even plain high school graduates.

These are signs of the industry scraping the barrel. The industry hires non-college graduates not by design but because they do not have a choice. They have targets in terms of growth for Philippine operations and they have to staff up. They are already feeling the human resource constraint and the big danger for the Philippines is that these companies might decide to cut back on the growth of Philippine operations in cognizance of the human resource constraint.

SEEKING SOLUTIONS OFFSHORE
In fact, some home-grown Philippine call centers are already investing in other countries in order to meet demand for their services. For example, eTelecare International recently purchased Phase 2 Solutions, a call center in Scottsdale, Arizona in the US. Hookway wrote, “the expansion of eTelecare into Arizona is just one of a batch of recent acquisitions in the outsourcing industry.” There are more to come.

That’s because it is probably going to be very difficult for call centers in the Philippines as a whole to hire more than 40,000 new agents in 2005 as the pool of past college graduates who are “hireable” dwindles. To maintain a hundred 100% growth rate in 2005, the industry must hire at least 60,000 new agents. Further compounding this problem is the fact that we not only have a small number of college graduates but that only a small proportion of our small number of college graduates have the high level of English proficiency required for the call center industry.

Several initiatives to address the human resource issue have been launched by the private sector, academe and government but none of these initiatives, so far, are of the scale and intensity needed to fully capitalize on this golden opportunity that has dropped on our lap. Even though we have had three fantastic years in this industry, the Philippines has barely scratched the surface of the enormous opportunity given us. It would be mind-boggling if we squander this miracle.

Just to give you an idea of the scale of the contribution of this industry, consider the commercial real estate market over the last three years. Over 300,000 square meters of office space have been leased (about 300 floors of 1,000 square meters per floor) by the industry with a rental value of over P100 million a month. As a result, a construction boom is beginning. In the Northgate Cyberzone, for instance, Convergys has just completed one three-story building, and is contemplating another. APAC occupies one entire four-story building. HSBC is currently constructing a five-story building. There are more to come.

What’s the answer to this dilemma? In the same way that President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has identified our fiscal situation to be a matter of utmost urgency, so must our inadequate educational infrastructure be addressed. How? First, public and private schools must be directed to make English-language competency an urgent priority. Too many institutions have resisted the President’s earlier call to make English the primary language of instruction. Now, there should be no choice. Second, investment in the educational sector should be eased to allow foreign institutions to set up fully-owned operations in the Philippines. Third, investment in the educational sector should be incentivized to encourage investors to build institutions here and pay teachers decent salaries.

We’ve had a succession of government officials promising massive job creation over the past decade. So far, only IT-enabled services sectors like call centers are living up to that promise. The issue is not our capacity to create jobs, it is our capacity to fill them. It is our capacity to educate our people, and prepare them for these high-salaried jobs. We have only ourselves to hold responsible for leveraging this opportunity – or letting it pass.

Gregory “Greg” Domingo is now a private citizen having completed his stint as undersecretary of the Department of Trade and Industry last April. Reactions to this column can also be e-mailed to mailbox@computerworld.com.ph.

Convergys pays a very decent training pay as compared to other contact centers.

Antother thing, do not be surprised if the gross pay for CVG non-tech reps can even overshadow the tech-pay of other big call centers.

As for the "palakasan" thing, take note that Convergys is an out-sourcer/third party sub-contractor of business processes; therefore, different accounts have different start dates of trainings and further complicated by different batches within an account with different start dates.

It seems that luck rained down a special gift for me: Going to work on March 7 after an initial interview on March 1, test[PC] on March 2, final interview on March 3, and job offer on March 4.

I can't divulge anything about salaries and allowances, but CVG management definitely kept their promise to adjust salaries up to par with industryleaders[who pay well] in the BPO industry. It is also a timely increase due to the creeping inflation.

Gateway Mall center in Cubao - excellent choice! It's linked to the MRT[ A first in the BPO industry] aside from having a shopping mall! Probably the best location for a call center! I hope someday there would be a Convergys site near the "Baywalk" at Roxas Boulevard.

Yes CVG Alabang accepts walk in applicants, you can just go there and submit your resume, immediately you'll be interviewed and will be scheduled for the exam. CVG Alabang is in Northgate,Cyberzone. :)

I just had my first training day today, and it was really awesome, it’s really nice to be a part of convergys. The whole day we are all just having one heck of a good time getting to know each other. In addition, we have learned a lot about the company and the wide range of opportunities for a career growth. BRAVO CVG :)

Glad you made the intelligent choice Ralphroberts78! I am intricately familiar with regards to how BPOs compensate their staff. You would also notice that the leave policy here gives you the necessary means to avoid a job burnout unlike in other contact centers that will "drive you up the wall" - you feel like you're "expendable"[military lingo] and the management is conspiring to keep probationary agents from ever getting regularized. It proves that CVG has a sense of social responsibility.

I hope CVG would enable me to work in a DRTV client. Its a humble but fulfilling and fun account to service. besides, I am a salesperson by profession.

Like Sykes, CVG has many accounts, if you've read business news from the US. It is just a matter of time and I can jump into my favored campaigns.

Mar 9, 2005, 11:12 AM
To CVG upper management:

Please get more email support[more dayshift work!] accounts for us. Also, inbound accounts[voice or e-mail] that pay commissions whether sales processing plus upsell or customer support plus upsell would also attract veteran sales people. And please let me know about these so that I can work in them!

CVG has the resources to give "economies of scale" to the client and overrun underfunded and "slave driver" call centers. BIG is BETTER!

Sa madaling salita...DIRECT COMPETITION DUE TO SAME ACCOUNT AND CAMPAIGN which will really damage the interest of his previous employer.

I don't want to mention names. Iyung iba sa inyo na top management sa mga call centers monitoring my posts know this incident.

hi peeps. I'd advice that during ur final interviews, disclose everything na rin, like incidents of suspension or any disciplinary actions. kc sa pagkakaalam ko, magaling ang BI process ng CVG, khet gano pa ka-busy ang HR nila. khet 3 mos ka na sa floor, pag nalaman nilang u didn't disclose some of those info, they'd send you a letter asking you to explain ur side.

Convergys has 3 offices: Alabang, Enterprise Center in Ayala, Makati (8th flr, Tower 2), and at the Robinsons building in Ortigas.

RED TAPE AT THE BIR!

Mama mia! Ang diwara pala ng form 2305 ng BIR[change of employer form] went to Pasig[Pasig, palengke area] to file. Told me I have to go back to Manila RDO. I then was asked to fill-up form 1905[change of RDO from Manila to Pasig]. Even have to prepare affidavit because I did not file ITR since my previous income comes from family enterprise and not through a wage.

I later discovered that form 1905 is unnecessary and that form 2305 should be filed in the RDO where a person is registered[certainly not Pasig in my case] through the official BIR website:

http://www.bir.gov.ph/birforms/form_cer.htm#2305

BIR Form No. 2305
Download

(Zipped Excel) | (PDF)
Certificate of Update of Exemption and of Employer's and Employee's Information

Description

A Certificate to be accomplished and issued in case of increase or decreases in exemption, change of status, change in the person of employer, change in the type of employment, acquiring employment after having registered as engaged in business or exercise of profession, change in the working status of the spouse, execution of the "waiver to claim the Additional Exemption" by the husband, or revocation of the previously executed "waiver to claim the Additional Exemption" by the husband.

Filing Date

File this form with the RDO where the taxpayer is registered, within ten (10) days after such change or event. (This form is given to the main employer, copy furnished the secondary employer).

Take note of highlighted phrase. Which means yup don't have to file it in Pasig RDO if you are not registered in Pasig! The BIR is saying one thing but posting a different story in their website. Such inefficieny!!!

When i had finished filling up the forms and submitted it, the girl who updates the database told me na dapat 2305 form ang ginamit ko at ayaw nyang tanggapin ang form ko.

-In my previous formal employments with other offices, I did not have to go through this form 1905. One office even did not require me a form 2305 and yet my withholding taxes were remitted!

I hope other staff even in other call centers can comment on this form 2305 and form 1905 hassle. Where you required to fill-out a form 1905 aside from form 2305?

I went through the same horrendous experience when I got married. I even had to back home to Baguio for a change in RD.Hanggang ngayon, di ko pa nga tapos pag-aasikaso ko.

1905 is for moving RD. The reason why you might need to move RDO is because you are moving or Convergys needs to you to be in their central RDO which is in Pasig so that your taxes will be computed properly.

NAku Una Dagmar,

My registered address[residence] is still the same. Even if they don't deduct taxes it properly, huli naman sa yearly filing. I worked with another company and did not update. My taxes were properly deducted. In other call centers walang 2305. Sabi ng webisite ng BIR You can file 2305 and incomew tax in your residence RDO! BIR is confusing. Wala akong ITR for several years since I was running family business of parent.

JOLOGS? subconscious, wer di you get that information? for what "we" knw, bellsouth is coping up naman na last month and this month. kaya its a no no for you to say na magpupull out na ang bellsouth. agents need not to worry about their job KUNG okay naman ang metrics nila. LAHAT ng programs may metrics na kailangan mameet and if some agents will get a FAILING mark, sorry pero GOODBYE. Pati rin TLs pwedeng masibak if they are not performing well. d *** yan nangyayari dito sa CVG pati din sa ibang company.

a question to the HR/ Recruiting folks

i signed up with CVG last December and agreed to wait till March 28 for the start of the training since i opted to be assigned to Commonwealth. i called them up March 1st inquiring about some requirements and asked about the training schedule but they said i'll be given a call regarding that 2 weeks before start of training. well March 28 is less than 10 days away and i havent heard a thing from them. am i still hired by CVG?

may reasons naman ***** sya to lie. I believe if wala namang non-compete clause he/she have the right to tell kung galing sya sa ibang call center or not. It wouldnt matter naman. Basta pag walang non compete its ok to lie:P Bad infulence noh...

Yes, you do need to inform the Recruiters from either Ortigas or Commonwealth, I guess. Once you have signed the contract during Job Offer kc, they already reserved a slot for you in that particular training sched. Remember, CVG has an on-going ramp, so they as many people as they can get. :)

funny thing is the person i talked to in early March was from the Ortigas CVG branch, she sounded so confident that they'd give me a call, took my name, had it spelled and all that.

i'll try to give them a call, but the last time it was quite an exercise since i was given quite the runaround.

i also have another question, is it possible to delay my training schedule? say instead of March 28, that i be included for whichever is the next training date?

yes you can... sa job offer before you sign their contract, pwde mo naman pakiusapan un HR na ngcconduct ng JO nyo... that's what I did... I was supposed to start on March 31 but I asked if it's possible to move it to a later date... and she did. My employment date now starts on April 14

But unfortunately during dat time, my sked had a conflict with the work shift and i would only be ready by march so she just told me to inform her via email if evr m alrdy available. I did send her email last march 15. Up to now i havnt received any reply frm her yet so i went there personally ysterday but the people there told me that she was out in a meeting. I waited for an hour after i decided to leave. But b4 i left, the security just askd me to sign a slip where i wrote my name and contact #. He told me dat he will be the one to explain to her my ‘case’ when she arrives. No calls yet from cvg up to this moment. *** do you think? *** should i do?
