A sensorineural type of hearing loss is just a general type of hearing loss, and you'll have to still find out what specific type of sensorineural hearing loss it is before you will know the treatment and prognosis for his problem. It's still not a specific diagnosis. He has probably been referred to a neurologist for this. Have him worked up first to see what's causing his deafness.

have it checked by the ENT (ear nose throat) doctor.

in case the problem turn out to be outer ear or middle ear, it can still be solved.

usual cause of sensorineural hearing loss is ototoxic antibiotics or frequent exposure to loud noise.
