I just notice sa mga mall may nakikita akong mga yaya in uniform kasama yung mga alaga nila with the parents.
Why do they have to be in uniform pa pag nasa labas? Parang nakaka-awa seeing them at the mall na naka-uniform kasama mga amo niya.
Just my opinion lang po...

Funny story.
My and my female friend were in Rockwell in our med uniforms. (All white) But we removed our ID tags and nameplates. We noticed that many of the yayas were dressed similarly. (White pants/skirt and white collared shirt/blouse)
So we went to a restaurant to have lunch. They must have thought we were yayas since we were treated rather shabbily (my friend speaks Visayan and she overheard the hostess telling the waitress, "Watch out for them. Make sure they pay.")
So, to stick it to them. When it came time to pay, I pulled out my American Express card and told the waitress (I'm Phil-Am and I speak in a thick accent) "Don't worry, we won't run away. I think this will cover the bill."
 :D

Well our maids wear uniforms...For the reason that they don't have much clothes, let alone work clothes. So their uniforms serve as work clothes. Kaya our maids have sets of uniforms.
Pero paglumabas kami, at sinama namin sila, we don't make them wear uniforms.

Tinanong ko naman yung ibang kakilala kung bakit gusto nila may uniform ang yaya nila kasi daw mas malinis tignan. Pero for me very demeaning ang pagpapasuot ng uniform its sort of labelling them na katulong nga sila.

exactly! parang you want the people to know na mayaman or may kaya kayo dahil nakikitang may kasamang katulong.
just my opinion...

my friend told me na kaya daw pinagu-uniform ng mga amo ang katulong nila when they go out eh para daw malaman kung sinong katulong. baka daw kasi yung amo ang mapag-kamalang katulong. hehehe, bad!

:imu: Alam mo,nangyari na ito, nasa Ob-Gyn ako for my monthly check-up,then dumating yung isang patient kasama anak nya, dalawa sila, akala ko magkaibigan sila, napansin ko lang na yaya yung isa kasi sunod-sya ng sunod sa bata, then narinig ko yung mommy, sabi nya "ask yaya to buy you some softdrinks" :D,Actually ang ganda talaga ng yaya, magkasing puti lang sila nung boss nya.at mas maganda sya.
Siguro ako papasuutin ko lang ng uniform ang yaya kung certified nurse sya,as in nursing uniform,at least malalaman ng tao na nurse sya at hindi sya basta basta yaya, pero kung galing lang sa agency, casual clothes lang,or kung ano ang comfy syang suot while working.

What our maid and yaya wear:
Sa bahay, pambahay. They work in the house so their work clothes are house clothes. It sort of, uhh, makes sense.
When we go out, their own going out clothes.
Make them wear uniforms because "they don't have much clothes"? Hmmm. Or maybe because they don't have clothes that you like.

hehe....funny! well, in our house my mother requested the yaya to wear a uniform for the same reason mentioned in some post that she doesn't have enough clothes to wear but when we go out...well ask her to wear casual clothes.
i also agree that it's not good to see them in uniforms.

kung lack of working clothes lang ang problema, eh di why not get them a set of clothes pero hindi yung standard maid's uniform?
like a set of plain white t-shirts, and a set of leggings? mas mura pa lalabas. o, eh di naka-"uniform" work clothes sila pero hindi naman stereotyped as helpers...

I agree! Why make them wear uniforms when you can actually buy them real clothes? I don't think not having enough clothes is an excuse for them to wear uniforms. It's either you WANT them in uniforms or you don't. If you don't you can always buy them decent, clean clothes that they can also use while having their days off.

well our maid's uniforms aren't the typical maid uniforms. They look nice. They certainly aren't white. You can buy them in all sorts of colors and good designs. :)
Yung isa ngang uniform looks like a nice dress that even our maid likes to wear it outside.
The problem with some people is that they just like their maids to look like maids.

Yayas are for wimps. My parents taught me to grow up independently. Before we hit the jackpot in the manufacturing industry, my dad was just a simple technician and my mom was starting her job in a shipping company. When I was 10 years old, I already had a full time job. I go around the neighborhood with my trusty "pamato" and hustle the other kids in games of "touching". Then I sell my booty little toys in other places earning me money. Now, I'm in the US and I cook my own food, clean my own house, repair my own car and wash my own clothes. John Gokongwei, Lucio Tan, Bill Gates... these men didn't have Yayas. I'm proud to be a yaya-less kid.

it's funny how some people accuse employers of "labelling" when they are unconsciously doing the "labelling" themselves.
