Michael Bay's The Island

Interesting idea (though not totally original) bogged down by messy presentation and flat characterization courtesy of Bay's nauseating MTV quick-cut style and his penchant for embracing the idea of excess action and worn-out cliches. It also helps... NOT! that there are a lot of distracting product placements in this movie. Who am I kidding? This is Bay. I should have known better although I was hoping to at least have a morbid good time like I did for his Bad Boys 2. But then that was comedy, this one's a bore.

Sinehan: Herbie Fully Loaded okay naman. enjoy din. wag mo lang isipin masyado kasi some things just really didn't make a lot of sense. parang magulo yung timeline. parang hindi tugma sa ages nila yung mga past information na sinasabi. may mga info na not really well defined. but still, enjoy pa rin. but disappointed na parang wala lang ginawa si cheryl hines sa movie. she was pa naman a big reason for me to watch the movie.

M. Night Shyamalan's Unbreakable

An unorthodox take of a story involving comic books, superheroes, villains and self-realization. Its bleak presentation is odd and a bit cold upon first viewing but after taking a second look, I've appreciated the little details and hints that Shyamalan provided in this movie leading up to its rousing climax and twisted conclusion.


Michel Gondry's Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

A journey through the memories of an estranged loved one, painful as it is that one would wish to forget, only to discover its value in the long run. Jim Carrey admirably plays against type as a "straight man" while Kate Winslet charms with her erratic and spontaneous character. The concept is interesting although there were moments that took me out of the movie for a while. The ambiguous ending is left for the audience to take it either with optimism or pessimism.

Lost in translation (hbo)--Still don't understand the ending of this film though the cinematography is great, they were able to capture Japan at its best.
MatriX Revolutions(hbo) dunno why I watched it again.. perhaps the first time i wasn't able to catch the first part.. hmm.. come to think again.. I saw a great deal of casts I wasn't able to catch the last time.. I think Michael in Lost (dunno what's his name).. plays the pilot in Neo's ship ( I think.. )

Alexander Payne's Sideways

A light comedy about two mismatched pair of late 30ish friends on a roadtrip. I was almost ready to give up on it in the first half where most of the conversations and situations were rather uninteresting. However it makes up a lot in the second half when everything went haywire. Paul Giamatti and Thomas Hayden Church played off really well. Church was great as an amusing and annoying bast*rd while Giamatti was believably pathetic in his uptight role. The payoff was worth the slow first half.

The Island -- this movie was so gripping and so intense. It had me stuck on the seat throughout the movie. This is Director Michael Bay's best movie so far to date -- sayang nga lang, this movie ain't doing well in the US. It wasn't able to beat the powers of Wedding Crashers and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Ewan McGregor is so cute, especially with his accent when he says "Shait." :lol:

Initial D live-action.. finally..was able to watch this movie.hmm.. if you haven't watch the series.. sad to say you might not be able to appreciate the movie. sidenote: Jay Chou needs to sharpen his acting craft.. he should either stick to singing or take serious acting lessons.. although his character (in the anime) was really boring.. he could have liven up his character a bit. The car scenes here ain't that bad .. it's just the same as the series..

Last time we were choosing between The Great Raid , Skeleton Key and Bewitched, we couldn't make up our minds so we ended up watching --- D' Anothers.

Bewitched watched it twice. it was pretty good. being a huge fan of the original series and of nicole kidman, i actually enjoyed the movie a lot. they used a lot of references to the series, from the dialogue, right down to the costumes. but if you're not a fan of the series, or have not watched the series, the situations aren't that funny. the movie was more about (for me anyways) nostalgia and more of those "oh! i remember that! they said/did/wore that on the series!". also, nicole was so adorable!

must love dogs it was great! very funny. diane lane, as always, blew me away. she should get a golden globe nomination. the movie was very mature, and the whole cast was great.

Red Eye -- the movie only ran for 1 hour and 23 minutes, pero it was entertaining and frightening. Cillian Murphy is totally creepy. Rachel McAdams is totally gorgeous and a great actress. Kamukha niya si Neve Campbell. Siguro parang naaalala ni Direk Craven si Neve through Rachel's looks.

This movie is flawless. One of the best. This is a good transition for Craven from horror to real suspense thrillers.

The 40 Year-Old Virgin -- same jokes from start to finish, but it was really effective. Nakakatawa siya. All of the characters' weirdness also brought it up nicely. When Andy (Steve Carrell) had a boner twice, that really was jaw-dropping. He's like an ego-maniac at the same time. hehe. he mentioned Kelly Clarkson in the movie, too, while being hair-waxed. "I nailed Kelly Clarkson!"

Overall, it's another surprise hit since Wedding Crashers, but Wedding Crashers is still unbeatable.

I saw Exorcism of Emily Rose last night. I can't believe that a lot of people were so interested in this movie, since it's based on a TRUE STORY. Simultaneous ang pag-switch ng scenes from the court session to the re-enactments. Scary ang nangyari kay Emily, parang mas natakot pa ako dito keysa sa The Exorcist. However, I really wanted to see how Emily really died, pero hindi ito pinakita so that was a partial disappointment for me.
