View Full Version : Stupid co-workers

Hi there. I have stupid co-workers. One of them is this guy named Raymund who keeps on talking to me but I don't really like his company because he is a stupid person who doesn't get his job done. He screwed up one of our projects before because my four year old nephew can think better than him. Anyway, he wants me to be his buddy but he is so full of banalities and is devoid of any capacity for intelligent thought that I don't want to have anything to do with him. I keep on ignoring him, just giving polite recognition to his cheeky greetings but I still give hints that I don't like to be his friend. This is so he will stay the hell away from me. For example, I would be in the hallway chatting with my associates about things that are of our own business, then if he sees us he would butt in and say "what's this all about?" or "what's up guys?" We would just say "nothing" and leave. Seems to us that this schmuck can't get a hint, but do you know of any other hints we may give to this schmuck? One of the most annoying things he does is go to my office and stand beside me, looking at my computer screen. I'm thinking about having a trapdoor built beside my desk that leads to the dumpster so in case he drops by for "a chat" I can just press the button and send him to where he really belongs. Have you gotten rid of these kinds of people before? If so, please share how you did it. Thanks.

One of the challenges that professional managers must face is the reality of working with people who are not of our own choice. I sometimes must bear the burden of working with people who are so full of themselves that they think what they know is bible truth. But that's business and successful managers know how to bring the best even out of the worst kinds of people.

One useful tip is to make sure that everybody is accountable for their own performance in a project. If he screws up, let him know it (or tell your managers to let him know it) and explain to him clearly where he went wrong. But if he does the job well, reward him accordingly. Sometimes people are just waiting for the chance to prove themselves. On the other hand, if he can't do the job, then he just might feel uneasy - prompting him to look for opportunities elsewhere.

Thanks for the advice rabbaddal. The guy was just hired and we thought he'd learn from the first screw-up, so we "covered his @ss" like good associates. I should've reported what happenned blow by blow so that he wouldn't have lasted longer. He used the wrong data on a report because he didn't follow my instructions to just encode data within the range I specified. And he also had the gall to walk into the President's office and hand him the report without bothering to check with the team first. The boss saw the idiotic error and everyone suffered. Anyway, our department started ostracizing Raymund and for some strange reason, he got transferred to another department across ours. The people there are not as kind as us to their co-workers, so 2 weeks after, he was fired. After two months, our receptionist quit so he was called in to sit there to file and answer the phone. A no-brainer job eh? But what can he do? No company would accept him. Due to extreme pity, one of our associates contacted him to inform him that the receptionist slot is open. So now, he got hired as a receptionist but still, he is doing a bad job. He couldn't even screen calls properly and he is always out of his area, leaving people in voice mail hell or a phone that rings forever. Much worse, he always hangs around in our department thinkin we're his buddies still. We just give him one word answers when he tries to start a conversation and even ignore him but this schmuck can't just get a clue. He was also made in charge of taking the trash out but he doesn't do it. Anyway, thanks Rab. I'm not really a "squealer" but I learned my lesson this time. I have to report who made the mistake or else it is the good workers who'll suffer.

He abandons his post. That's reason enough to report him now.

Every person has faults. But every worker must also have some qualities you find useful/valuable and which justify keeping him. Needing a job is not enough. What can this Raymund fellow do right/well?

i agree with kuya danny...

ethics would dictate that badmouthing a colleague is not proper. for all we know, it might be us who's really in the bad side and not know it.

i must admit that such forum is very helpful in venting out rants. and i must acknowledge that i also once became an offender myself. but sometimes, we should try to put some restraint on ourselves and analyze the problem first. have you talked to him in the first place and vent out your concerns? nope? try to. sometimes, it helps a lot to let another party be aware of his shortcomings. and maybe, you may also realize that you do have your shortcomings as well. we'll never know.

I do have shortcomings and appreciate those who point them out, but I make it a point that all my responsibilities are fulfilled. We don't only talk to him, we even come to the point of yelling whenever he misses calls, messes up the files or misroutes faxes. Pero makapal talaga, sobra. Hindi lang ma-bring up sa boss ang problema about him because during meetings, there are more important issues. Malaking inconvenience nga lang talaga ang may kasamang ganun sa office. Anyway, we'll just continue giving him "the treatment" until bumigay... heh heh...

Hmm.

You have a few more months to let him go. After six months on your payroll he becomes permanent.

You know what to do.

Once had the great displeasure of working with the ultimate dumbkopf duo: my previous boss, and his favorite henchman.

I have never seen a boss so universally hated by his people. Even his girlfriend who is his subordinate acknowledged that there was something wrong with him. Imagine a loser who would, in so many words, justify his refusal to recognize good work by saying: 'Ako nga taga La Salle, di napo-promote, ikaw pa kaya". (No offense to the La Sallites out there).

He actually blocked my transfer to my company's IT department (as well as the corresponding promotion and pay increase), simply because he said I was an asset. So much for: 'know your men, and look after their welfare'.

But over and above his delusions of intellectual superiority, his greatest sin was his tolerance of the incompetence of his 'favorite' henchman. The man was not only incompetent, he was also corrupt.

We were worked in a financial establishment, and were deeply involved in the approval process of credit applications. The 'henchman' not only didn't have a clue as to what he was doing, but he openly sought financial favors from the clients for a 'favorable' outcome of the application.

Our marketing department already called our boss' attention regarding his henchman's activities -- but to no avail. Needless to say the impact on morale was severe. Our department was repeatedly stained by the man's stupidity -- but our equally stupid boss always let the matter slide.

Man am I glad to be out of there.

I resigned from my previous job because nobody from the company thinks like an Atenean.

They are all incompetent except for me.

:D Di bagay sa akin ang masyadong seryoso, but if I were in your position, the best thing to do is Ignore him. I knew a person similar to that before, he hushed down being 'ignorant' (I don't want to use the word stupid) :glee: in time...

He confided with one of our kind co-workers that he doesn't plan on staying any longer. We'll continue treating him like cow dung... quite effective!

Guys and gals, Raymund quit. All the departments agreed to turn up the heat last week and he wasn't able to stand it anymore. So guys and gals, if you have a co-worker that you couldn't stand, just incite your other co-workers to treat him like dirt. It works! =)

Better to have low-life, no-work-ethic morons quit . . .

. . . than have the good workers resign in disgust because upper management tolerates worthless workers.

Kudos Advancement. People power put to good use.

Exactly! If lazy morons exist in the office, it is the intelligent, responsible and hard working people that would suffer because we have to exert a lot of extra effort to compensate for their inadequacies, malingerings and screw-ups.

Yeah, all the explanations are in the thread. He cannot dispute these with his sorry excuses even if he reads these. The entire office would not push him over the cliff if he didn't piss everyone off.

I think ramond is 'Phsycologicaly Distorbed'

The fact that he wants some company with you and apparently ignoring him makes it worse. Kaya, most probably since unstable yung kanyang pag-iisip...naapektuhan yung work nya.

Dito kasi sa amin...parang family kami dito...pag me kasamahan kami dito medyo as you say 'not performing well' todo ang suporta namin sa kanya hangang sa matutunan nya yung mga pagkakamali nya...and alam namin na we need to do this supporting kind of thing kasi buong institution ang maapektuhan sa bawat kilos namin dito...

i think raymond needs attention

Your method not work with everyone. Some people only get worse when you baby them. What they need is a real shock to their systems . . . like getting fired.

Have you ever run into someone as like Raymond, or the corrupt co-worker I mentioned in an earlier post?

Siguro, I should say na not all the time we support the ones na 'nagkukulang'....meron din naman kaming gauge level. Kung if ever di parin natututo yung kasamahan namin dito sa pagkakamali nya, thats the time our supervisor has nothing to do but to reccomend a dismissal to this person. ganun lang.

In the case of raymond, most probably binigyan nyo na siya ng maraming chances to prove himself but he blew it
