The word "migraine" comes from the Greek hemikrania, which means "half a skull". It is normally accompanied by blurred vision, nausea and/or vomiting, and tingling and numbness in the limbs that can last up to 18 hours or more. A classic migraine is similar to a common migraine, but it is preceded by a set of symptoms referred to as an aura, which can consist of speech disorders, weakness, and disturbances in the senses of vision and/or smell. An aura can also consist of brilliant stars, sparks, flashes, or simple geometric forms passing in the person's the vision. But the most common symptom is just not seeiny clearly. Visual disturbances may last only a few seconds or may persist for hours, then disappear. Migraines are a fairly common problem, and affect about 10% of the population. Over 9% of females and 3% percent of males in the USA suffer from migraine headaches. They may occur anywhere from once a week to once or twice a year, and the problem often run in families. One factor behind the higher incidence of migraine in women may be changes in the level of the hormone estrogen; women normally get migraines around the time of menstruation, when estrogen levels are low. Migraines occur most often in people between 20 to 35 years of age and tend to reduce with age. However, children may also suffer from migraines. In children, migraine pain tends to be more spread out, rather than localized. Migraine can first show up in childhood not as headaches, but as colic, periodic abdominal pains, vomiting, dizziness, and severe motion sickness. According to the USA Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of cases of migraine headaches has increased over 60% in the last few years.

hindi tumatalab ang Biogesic sa migraine ko. I usually take Excedrin. Unfortunately, wala dito sa Pinas so pinapadala na lang ng mom ko. Eto pa lang nakaka-alleviate ng pain ko. In just a minute or so, wala na *** pain. Ponstan 250 is ok pero ang tagal ng effect.

I agree with boldventure, tulog mo lang ito or after mo magsuka, wala na *** pain. Pero parang torture *** pagsusuka ko dito. :(

Are you sure it's Migraine? In many cases it's simply a case of astigmatism. Maraming ASTIG kasi!!! :D

Hindi sa akin puwede 'yung basta itutulog lang after magsuka. Kailangan ko talaga mag-take ng gamot, dahil kung hindi bedridden ako for almost a week.

I used to take Avamigran, but it only worsened my headache. When I get migraine attacks, I take 2 Alaxan tablets (500 mg each) right away. Walang epekto sa akin ang Ponstan.

Shouldn't this be in What's Up Doc?

so far none of the medicines are giving taking effect on me. i've taken biogeic, midrid, advil, ponstant (sometimes bigyan ako ng 100mg ng nurse), and now flunarazine (sibelium). even if i take my medicine it usually takes several days before mawala. any suggestion would be most welcome. why meee??? :(

have you tried Excedrin :?:

Sabi din nila, pag nararamdaman mo na magkaka-migraine ka, agapan mo na agad by drinking your meds bago lumalala. :D

"regular" intake of anti-pain meds would render our bodies less tolerant to such pains... try to sleep it through. minimize exposure to glaring light and rest well. :)

work related kasi daw yung migraine kaya dito naka post.

read an article saying that 2 bottles of gatorade can relieve migraine. ayaw ko e-try kasi mahal aabutin nito.

sometimes kasi it is psychological, lalo na kung ang cause ay stress or fatigue or sobrang kakaisip ng problema. minsan the thought of having a migraine worsens the effect pa.

other non-drug solutions:

1. free yourselves of useless anxiety. learn to be in control of things psychologically. maintain SOPs in handling problems and stressfull events. follow the concept of "maapektuhan ka lang kung magpapa-apekto ka". this needs practice and mastery.

2. master relaxation technique. some people meditate regulary. some do yoga or tai-chi (tama ba mga spelling ko).

3. kung ang cause ay dahil sa sobrang tutok sa paperwork or project na sobrang kelangan ng attention, or sobrang tagal ng exposure sa computer:
- pasyal ka or ikot ikot lang around sa office from time to time
- listen ka ng isang soft music once in a while
- take a break ika nga, have kit kat
- I usually decrease the brightness of my screen monitor kasi parang ito minsan yung cause ng migraine.
