I'm thinking of going to China to study Mandarin...It's going to be for 6 months...I'm thinking of doing this to escape my current job, which is becoming such a bore...But then again, will this study help me find a better job after?

Think about it this way. Taiwanese spend small fortunes (I know one person spent 100K) in English courses just to reach English literacy levels equivalent to Philippine grade schoolers.

They know both Mandarin and Taiwanese . . . but its not really helping them much, because they're pretty much restricted in what countries they can go. Apparently, the only situations where its an advantage is if they want to do business with the mainland.

Advantage in business: Yes. Advantage in employment: your better off with English.

I think I read somewhere that Mandarin is more widely spoken than English in terms of business. But then again, that was back in the late 80s or early 90s.
