I just enrolled myself to a nursing school. This is my second course and I found the instructors to be very bitter and hateful. They seem to give everyone a hard time. I have a subject called healthcare and in this subject we are made to demonstrate before an instructor the things a health care provider does, like cleaning the ward, gloving, gowning, handwashing etc.. I just found out from the higher years that at the end of the semester we are supposed to demonstrate how to do a sponge bath and enema! During demonstration we are to pair off (by some type of name lottery) with some total stranger and let him/her strip you down and bathe you and then show the instructor your *** and insert a tube into it! If you don't do the demonstration the instrutor will make no hesitations in giving you a failing grade on the subject even if you aced the other demonstrations. I asked my friends in other nursing schools and found out that they had maniquins for these types of demonstrations. Are the instructors just doing this out of spite? Isn't there a law against this or a government office I can complain to? I really need your help on this one coz I'm absolutely not looking forward to being violated.

How gross!@!!@! Baka mga perverts ang instructors mo?
You should only do it if your instructors volunteer as the subjects (eg wards).

hey that's the 1st tym i heard of dat. u c, when we did our sponge bath demo, girls are paired with girls & boys with boys and we wore sleeveless shirts and cycling shorts. And since it's just a demo, those of us who are uncomfortable with it can demonstrate it with the mannequins in our nursing lab. we were not forced to do it. maybe u cn talk it out with ur dean & ask her if it's rly dat necessary to do that because in other nursing schools where i luckily belong to, we are not required to do such.

Maybe your instructor zealously believes in the saying "experience is the best teacher" or " to truly care for a patient, you must experience being one". hehehe
Seriously, in fairness to your teacher, better wait for that day HE/SHE DOES REQUIRE you to perform an actual demo on each other. After all, you just HEARD IT from other students. Medical and para-medical courses are so full of "hearsay"requirements that turn out to be a lot of bull in the end.
Yes "dummies" are used in most universities and colleges. Performing an actual enema should be done only an actual patient who requires it. Something that will come later on when you go on duty at the hospitals.

If you want a very willing volunteer, I suggest you contact Fried Green Tomato right away. He hangs around in the UAAP forum. I'm sure he'll be happy to do it for everyone in the class. At your service with pleasure 'ika nga.

Well you should be exposed to the realities of nursing you know. Time to stop being blinded by the promise of $$$ and wake up to how hard being a nurse is.

I am not maarte. I am in this course, aren't I? I don't have any qualms about the other things we do in our healthcare subject. But having someone do an actual enema on you? Would you do it? You'd probably make it a big deal if a teacher grabbed your crotch or your butt. And that would be normal coz that's sexual hara, ssment. There's not much of a difference in doing an enema demo. You'd have a tube up your naked a,ss in front of your instructor. There's a difference between kaartehan and having self-respect. If there's a dummy we can use, then I'd think there's seriously something wrong if an instructor insists on having the demostration done on a student. The main point of the post is to find out if it's a normal practice in all nursing schools so I can actually do something about it, maybe complain to the dean, and not to have someone lecture me about my choices. And if you've read the other posts its very clear that an actual enema demo is NOT done in most nursing schools. Are you even a nursing student? And if you are do they actually do this in your school?

when we were students, enemas (demos) were done sa mga dummy, unless na lang if during actual duty and a patient needs one and the students haven't demonstrated it, sa patient gagawin ng clinical instructor and not the students. sa mga sponge baths, studets are paired girls to girls or boys to boys, kung may shortage ng boys, 1 boy wil act as the patient and mga girls mag-sponge sa kanya.
