For those feeding their babies with formula milk, what are you using? I've got a sample of Frisolac from my gynecologist's clinic but I really don't know if I want to use it on our baby... I know breast milk is best for babies but we're planning on supplementing it with formula milk.

Hmmm.... this was 11 years ago, and I used Nan1 and Nan2. And afterwards, Gain and then Promil.

i started my kid with Similac .. but it seems he had bowel movement problems, so my pedia recommended NAN1. then we shifted to NAN2 when he was 6 months i think... then now Gain plus.

For my daughter, I had trouble with my breastmilk cuz I was a first-time mom, so her pedia prescribed Nan1 then Nan2 then Gain (6mos) then GAINPLUS. Gain and Gainplus are really good, my daughter loves it and mukhang masarap sya. Although I heard that Gainkids are sort of really hyperactive but smart (my daughter is a perfect example).

For my son naman who's now 9mos old, i breastfed him for the first 3 months, then switched to S26 Gold then he's now into Promil Gold. I highly recommend breastmilk. Compared to my daughter who wasn't breastfed, mas ok weight gain ng son ko and mas malakas and mataba talaga sya.

Mine used S26 Gold for the first 3 months, then switched to S26 regular, tapos Promil Gold nung 6 months, ngayon Promil pa rin.

My daughter drinks Enfamil with Lipil ever since she came out.
I didn't breastfeed her at all and she just takes formula all
the way. I just don't know what its called there sa Pinas ang
Enfamil.

both my daughter and son used s26 until 6 months.

daughter (5 year old na ngayon) - s26, gain, enfagrow, enfakid, nido then lactum na ngayon --> combined iyong vanilla and chocolate flavor.

son (1 year and 2 mos) - s26, promil and promil kid.

gain - nakakatalino (daw) but super likot ang kids (as with my daughter and nephew).

i wonder how many bewildered parents will be shaking their heads in disbelief 16 years from now (UPCAT year) when they discover their kids' IQs did not benefit one whit from all these pro-gifted brands.

You know, this is true. Imagine the cost of Gain and Promil then, and even so today!!!!

You know, I've a cousin who used "Bonna" (a cheaper milk brand) and guess what, her daughter is always top in school.

Minsan wala rin yan sa infant milk, I mean, hindi lang yan sa infant milk, syempre we want to ensure that our children will have the best in everything so that there will be a greater chance of our children becoming the best, pero to a great extent, depende rin yan sa environment, sa parents most specially, and the various stimuli the child experienced.

breast milk is better than 5 times the best formula you can buy.

but then....

how come poor kids (who rely mostly on breast milk) also have problems with math and philo?

ahh... it may be nutrition, debilitating infant diseases and a poor environement.

ok, it takes all kinds. now back to the topic. my kid takes dulac. boy, she vaccums it up. she's 3 1/2 months old, is breastfed, and still finishes 6 ounces of dulac in a wink. she's past her weight curve on the last visit to the doc. the pedia says her head circumference is also growing very fast.

my baby was breastfed until he was 2 ½ months...now he's using mylac then i think pag abot nya ng 6 mo. hinulac na sya...

it's true that breasmilk is the best...my baby's pupu became harder when i stopped breastfeeding him...good thing his pedia adviced us to give him prune juice to help him with his bowel movement

well, i agree...of course the upbringing of the child is a major factor in the growing up process...but the thing is if we can give the best milk to our child why not...and it also depends on the effect of the milk supplement to the bowel movement of the child.

mine i started out with NAN but shifted to Enfalac when he was 1 week old as advised by his pedia coz of diarrhea...then tried gain when he was 6 months but unfortunately he had diarrhea so i tried promil and it worked...ooopps i also tried enfagrow before promil but the diarrhea thing attacked again...when he turned 1 i shifted to progress...my baby is a picky eater i tried other milk supplements like gainplus, nido 1+, anchor 1+ but if it isn't the diarrhea thing it seems that he doesn't like the taste...i remember trying nido1+ even when he was asleep and we gave him milk he still would not drink it upon tasting.

breastmilk is best if you can do it, requires commitment...i listened to the old wives (my lolas and nanay) so i breastfed from birth to 32 months. wanted to quit at 6 months, but listend to the old wives again. anyway,

try mixed feeding if you can, formula in the day and breast at night. buy an avent manual breast pump to express milk and store it too, avent is the best because i've tried it against other brands. countless doctors recommend breastfeeding up to 6 months at least.

don't know what is the best formula under 1, but after the age of 1 the best for us is pediasure.

best of luck and patience!

Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding your baby is by far the most natural; doctor recommended, ideal and best food for your baby. Breast milk is perfectly designed to meet every need of your baby and it has very unique properties that cannot be copied in a formula. Breast milk contains all of the essential nutrients and antibodies that are perfectly matched to what your baby needs. Its composition is so perfect that your baby will experience less diarrhea, constipation and digestive upsets. With the antibodies that are in the breast milk your baby will be better prepared to fight off viruses and bacteria, while building his or her immune system. Another advantage of breast milk is that it changes and adapts to your baby’s needs, while the act of breastfeeding itself helps form a close, emotional bond between mom and baby.

Bottle-feeding (Formula)
While it is always strongly recommended that mothers breastfeed their baby’s, there are many reasons that some mothers may be unable to or choose not to breastfeed. When breastfeeding in not an option due to a mothers illness, prescription medicines, heart or kidney disease, HIV/ AIDS or a number of other reasons, the three other doctor recommended alternatives are expressed milk from other, human milk from a donor or milk bank and the 4th alternative is infant formula. When nursing at the mother's breast is not possible, the use of a nursing supplementer, such as the one offered by Lact-Aid (www.lact-aid.com) is a good option to try next with either expressed milk or milk from a donor or milk bank. As the final alternative, infant formula is designed to imitate the content and activities of human milk as much as scientifically possible. While there is no formula that can duplicate the perfection of breast milk, it is the only alternative when breast milk is not an option. Formulas contains all the vitamins, minerals and iron your baby needs, but since there are so many brands and variations of formula, be sure and have your doctor tell you which one to use.

It’s recommended by most doctors that babies are breastfed until they are at least 9 to 12 months of age. But due to different reasons you may only be able to go a few months or maybe use a combination of breast and formula to feed your baby the full twelve months. Discuss the subject with your doctor and you both can decide on what is best for you and your baby.

As a final note, with the increase of babies being adopted and arriving by surrogate, these surrogate and adopting parents-to-be may also consider breastfeeding a positive way to nourish their babies

Nung nasa tyan pa lang ang baby ko eh Anmum, tapos Enfalac, Enfagrow, now Enfakid, I'm trying to find cheaper brands, pero pag pinagkukumpara ko yung nutrition information eh mas lamang talaga ang brain foods ng Enfa, even compared sa Gain and Promil, pero minsan na tetempt ako sa Neslac, kasi almost half the price of Enfakid, pero mostly less the nutrition content din.

http://www.boomspeed.com/carolrobert/mickey.gifmy son used Infamil from birth up to 1 yr old, after that, yung regular milk na sa grocery malamig pa nga eh , ewan lang ha, nagtataka nga ako, dito sa US di ba sobrang protective nila sa health ng mga bata, you know basta baby ang pinag-usapan,dami nilang chechebureche, pero wag ka, hindi dito uso yang mga pampatalino ek ek na gatas or pampatangkad.so far naman yung anak ko above average baby sya, ngayon nga at his age (2yo) alam na nya basahin ang alphabet,as in nababasa nya hindi lang memoryado,he also know how to count by number and thru his fingers,a few days ago kakaturo ko lang ng shape and colors, the next day ako na tinuturuan
btw,may nabasa ako dating article,I think dito din sa pex, yung intelligent daw ng bata,or you know personality ng tao,nag start daw yan ma build at the beginning of conception, then yung intelligent din daw, like how you treat them, the environment,as in the everyday things you do together, yung study ginawa sa new zealand,so yun ganon daw.
as for the breast feeding mommy in a thrid class family, breast feed nga, kung hindi din naman healthy yung kinakain ng mommy, and minsan karamihan sa kanila nag smoke pa then sobrang dumi ng paligid,so kaya ganon din.

my other nephew

naman is taking Dulac... hiyang sya.... but his ATE

http://www.angelfire.com/blog/mec/bonita-crop.JPG

had to take Enfalac because she was lactose intolerant...

ultimately.... it's not really the milk you were fed when you were a baby (duh, we all grew up w/ s26 and bonna and still managed to become the achievers and hyper people that we are)... although it's understandable for a parent to want nothing but the best that he/she can afford for his/her baby...

i like to think din na it's more important that the mother... while carrying that child inside her pa lang... observe proper diet during the pregnancy so that the baby won't grow up fat or sickly....

i've tried pediasure. Ok naman sya coz they say na as a milk - complete o balanced daw sya. BUT i tried one can lang coz ang sabi sa akin - usually pediasure is given to kids na recovering from sickness or yung tipong kulang sa nutrition or walang gana kumain... read mo sa label indicated dun.

our pedia recommended that my 26-mo old baby take pediasure kasi compared to her older siblings, mas maliit sya. problem is ayaw nya kahit anong milk formula. she still prefers my milk so i'm still breastfeeding her but her yaya feeds her the powdered form of the formula when i'm not around - that she can take, tapos inom nalang ng maraming water. :D

wala naman kami problem sa kanya kasi malakas ang katawan nya, maliksi at matakaw pa although she had allergies when she was an infant kaya naka-7 or 8 changes yata kami ng milk formula.

It would still depend on what your PEDIA suggests. The reason why she recommended you NAN H.A. was because your baby has lactose intolerance. But then, if your baby can tolerate other formulas, you may try GAIN when your baby reaches 6 months. My youngest daughter started with NAN H.A. also because she had lactose intolerance. I switched her to GAIN 'coz it has been proven to be the best. :)

1-6 mos – nan1, similac, and then finally settled to enfalac lacto-free wherein she's more hiyang

6 mos-1 year – switched to a soy-based formula (Isomil 2) coz she developed an allergy to cow's milk

Dear parents, here's a question...

"Now that she has turned a year old, would appreciate your suggestions on what formula (for one year onwards) should i give her. Some have suggested Lactum, Progress, Gain Plus, etc. Which is the best ba?"

Many thanks to all!

Now our baby girl Adie is already 7 months old! She's now taking Promil Gold and so far, so good. Alam mo, your pediatrician should be the one to prescribe the best milk formula. I don't know how they choose what's best for the baby, but I do know that they prescribe different formulas for different babies - like my pedia prescribed Nan1 for me while she prescribed Bonna for my cousin.

It is definitely not safe for anyone without medical background and prior knowledge of your medical history as well as your baby's to tell you what you should give your baby.

But this is the simplest and the BEST milk for your baby, and NO Doctor would disagree - BREASTMILK!!! Not if you're drinking alcohol or smoking or into drugs though... :( But otherwise, it's the best.

Best for baby? What else but breastfreakin'milk!!! :D Best means there's nothing better and NO FORMULA can top breastmilk. So if you're one of those lucky moms with an abundant supply for a baby with a good enough sucking instinct then don't give up breastmilk for formula. The benefits are major and long-term. Your baby will thank you for it.

But, if you really must give formula (which I think should be limited to extreme circumstances) consult your pedia as Fairy said. And my tip is, whatever the doc recommends, buy the smallest can first so that if the baby doesn't not like it or has an adverse reaction to it, switching brands won't be such a waste of money.

its our first tine to have a child, and my wife isnt lactating yet(atleast not sustainable amount) . so for the mean time we're doing formula and the little amount of milk she produces...so far we're using s26. Any comments about this brand?

I think the brand doesn't really matter that much, they all have more or less the same ingredients. Based on our experience when we weaned our kid, what is important is that the baby likes the taste and does not have any adverse reaction to it like allergies or bloated tummy or colic. The Infant Milk Thread (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=135763) has feedback from other PExers on their formula experience.

When we had our first baby, my wife didn't lactate much at the onset either and to make things doubly frustrating, the baby wasn't so good at sucking. At the advise of the pedia and the lolas, we just kept on trying. Since milk production is dependent on the baby's demand we just let him suck and suck until eventually everything worked like clockwork. My wife also swears that halaan (clam) soup with malunggay really did help in making the milk flow freely. See also The Breastfeeding Thread (http://www.pinoyexchange.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=140330) for other stories.

Congratulations to both of you on your baby and good luck!

I'm also a first time mom and I have been exclusively breastfeeding my 7-month-old. Take note, he never takes formula, just when he was in the hospital coz the nurses gave him some without my permission. Quick tip: If I were you, invest in a breastpump instead of formula because a breastpump is the one sure way to increase your wife's milk supply. If you keep supplementing with formula, the milk will eventually dry out because breast milk operates under the law of supply and demand. The more it is pumped or sucked (even though it seems that there isn't any milk) the more milk will flow. That's what happens with mothers who say they don't have any milk. It's not true, they HAVE milk, it was just not "harvested" properly.

Good luck! I suggest read breastfeeding books or go to websites like babycenter.com to learn how a baby latches on properly and all the abc's of breastfeeding.

meron at meron yan. basta ipa-suck lang s baby plagi para ma-stimulate at mkpgproduce, tsaka psychological kc yan e, basta 2lungan nya sarili nya through mind power na merong lalabas n milk. d nya mage-getz yan kng sasabihin u s knyang gnun bsta pganahin nya maternal instinct nya. Sakripisyo tlg mgbreastfeed but it pays. masakit s likod, sore nipples and all, but in the future she can proudly tell herself that she's given her son the best milk there is.

I had a hard time breastfeeding and kahit anong gawin ko, konti lang talaga yung milk na lumalabas. 3 weeks ko lang na-breastfeed yung baby ko. After which, we started giving him Enfalac A+ as per his pedia's advise. Then I decided to bring him back to Enfalac A+. Ayun, di na sya nagkarashes dun and he's drinking it. Kaso talagang humina sya mag-milk. His weight gain is within the normal range although we were hoping na sana tumaas-taas pa ng konti. He's 6.5 months old now and he's on Enfapro A+ na sobrang hirap bumili kasi laging walang stock yung nasa lata. He's also eating cereals na to compensate. Sabi nung 1 pedia na nakausap ko yung Enfalac A+ and Frisolac ang best tasting brands of formula milk sa market ngayon. No wonder babies gulp it so well. :)

My eldest son uses the ENFA series. He just switched to ENFAKID last month kasi 3 yrs old na sya. 1 yr syang nag Enfalac A+. So when I had my second baby Enfalac A+ din pinapagatas ko sa kanya. Sabi nila the best daw na gatas yun. Siguro kasi mahal. hehehe. I don't know if it is something to do with the milk or is it because sinabayan ko ng solid food kaya observe ko muna. In the meantime, bumili ako ng Prune juice para di sya gaano mahirapan sa pagpopo nya kasi last time hirap na hirap sya.

Hi Everyone!

I need advice on this: my baby is now 1 year old, so I need to switch to a 1 year old formula. My situation is ganito, I am solely working dahil my husband's company just recently closed. Sweldo ko po ay maliit lang...to be honest Php250.00 lang per day tapos less deduction pa...kaya konti na lang ang net.

Questions:
1. What milk can you recommend na hinde mabigat sa budget...na at least maganda naman ang quality?

Thanks for your advices.

I'm here in manila right now and I use whole fresh milk for my baby. That's what my pedia recommended and I like it coz it's fresh. When we go out we just put an ice pack with his bottle of milk and we're good to go. It's inexpensive and nutritious. Here in Manila we use the Cowhead brand. I'm based in the States kasi and there hindi uso ang mga Progress, gain, etc. for toddlers coz after 1 year, the kids there shift to whole fresh milk kaagad.

Dec 3, 2004, 07:34 AM
Yeah I serve the milk cold, but not super cold, just enough na ma-refresh sya. As for my toddler, the pedia recommended 3 feedings in one day lang naman. I buy the big tetra pack I think it's P50 more or less tapos he can finish that in one week. But I breastfeed pa rin kasi so if I don't, maybe he might finish 2 packs a week which isn't bad already.

Maybe you can compare prices and see which one suits your budget more.

breast milk is better than 5 times the best formula you can buy.

but then....

how come poor kids (who rely mostly on breast milk) also have problems with math and philo?

ahh... it may be nutrition, debilitating infant diseases and a poor environement.

<snip>
:D

To tell you the truth, a lot of poor children are not even on breastmilk. This is truly a sad state because breastmilk if free and the MOST NUTRITIOUS food a mother can give her infant.

I saw on the news somewhere that breast milk substitutes are one of the items that the Filipinos spend on the most (it's like on the top3 of the list).

I also have a friend who works at the grassroots level trying to educate these mothers about breastfeeding. She told me that she's seen really poor people try to scrimp and save only to give formula (or worse, condensed milk!!! This really pissed her off!)...because they are marketed really well.

May I quote:

“Filipino parents buy breastmilk substitutes in all good faith, thinking that they are doing the best for their children,” Dr Nicholas Alipui, UNICEF Country Representative to the Philippines, said.

“This is the result of the massive penetration of marketing strategies to glorify and portray breastmilk substitutes to ordinary people as safe and reliable substitutes.” Dr Alipui added, “But in fact, they are bad and dangerous substitutes.”

(from http://www.unicef.org/philippines/archives/news/050502.html)

To answer your Q, well...these poor people also have problems with math and philo because they weren't breastfed!

My kids were premature & they all drank the enfa series - enfalac, enfapro. now magnolia milk or any carton milk nalang. i breastfed for 3 weeks by the way. so i think breastmilk is not always best for babies.

i dont know why they emphasize breastfeeding so much. ang important lang dyan ang colostrum (the syrupy clear liquid that comes out) for antibodies.

sana naman they would also promote the importance of the nutritional intake of the breastfeeders. e pano yun kung yung mommy nagkakape & keeps eating junk food and/or instant noodles? what nutritional value is the baby getting?

there is so much more to breastfeeding than just letting your baby drink your milk. pati ang msg & caffeine napapasa nila sa baby no.

Most, if not all, literature I've read about breastfeeding emphasize the importance of good nutrition for the mommy, at common sense lang naman siguro na you should lessen your intake of caffeine and processed food when breastfeeding. Mas mahal naman ang infant formula kaysa sa sariwang gulay o prutas, so lack of money shouldn't be a reason for a mom to keep eating instant noodles and use this as an excuse to formula-feed instead of breastfeed :)

I agree that there's much more to breastfeeding than that. It's not as easy as it looks, especially for working moms.

True true. for all of us who are fortunate enough to gain a lot of access to these infos we know that healthy eating is a very important part of breastfeeding. I was referring to the commercials who only state in ONE sentence - breastmilk is still best for babies. period. wala nang added info. kaya ang mga poor dyan breastfeed lang pero kung ano2 pa rin kinakain. e kung ganun lang e di sana mga babies nila matatangkad & healthy na rin di ba? but that is so not the case.

as for quitting after 3 weeks of breastfeeding, my babies were born at 4.5 lbs & 3.5 lbs (we brought home the 2nd after a month in the hospital weighing just 3 lbs - gasp). and reading the ingredients on the formula i feel they would greatly benefit (and they have) from the nutrients that i feel i could not give since they still cannot drink vitamins at that age. Plus after breastfeeding them for 3 weeks they didnt grow so much as opposed to milk formula.

now, at ages 5 & 6, they are not fat (super payat yung 1 but eats A LOT - but tall) and i'm very contented.

For me (for me lang ha) it;s the same if you breastfeed them and give them vitamins bec. giving them vitamins means that breastmilk is not enough.

aaand (i prefer shorter posts kasi mas mabilis basahin)
i have talked to my subordinates (mostly in their 20s) who are from the CDE class and they DO NOT know that what you eat can be passed to the breastmilk. I also discussed with them basic baby care and prenatal care and they just stare in awe na parang - totoo ba yan? ganun pala yun.

so i sort of know how they live life. I've even talked to a few new mommies when we did an outreach. wala rin silang alam. so kawawa talaga sila and the babies are suffering for it.

it didnt even occur to them that what they eat can affect the quality of breastmilk. na tipong basta lang na "breastmilk is best for babies" feel nila their milk is nutritious enough already even if they don't eat healthy.

This is getting out of topic na, but I just have to disagree with this post:
kesa nga naman ibili nila ng food nila para maging healthy sila't magkaron ng supply ng milk ang body nila, ibibili na lang nila ng milk ng bata di ba.....
Good nutrition need not be expensive. Simple food such as chicken broth, sardines, malunggay, kangkong, or galunggong with tomatoes are both filling and nutritious, and cost much less than infant formula. Generic multivitamins and calcium lactate supplements are also cheap: P100 for a bottle of 100 tablets (which will last the mommy 3 months) at Mercury Drug, no need to get Centrum or those branded vitamins. There are other health benefits of breastfeeding, such as a lower risk of breast and ovarian cancer for the mom.

I was referring to the commercials who only state in ONE sentence - breastmilk is still best for babies. period. wala nang added info.
If I'm not mistaken infant formula manufacturers are required by the Ad Board that regulates TV commercials to include that sentence in their ads. Of course they won't put more info on breastfeeding other than what's required, because that will lower their sales - that's like expecting cigarette companies to educate people about lung cancer or liquor companies to show people the dangers of alcoholism and liver disease :D Siguro DOH, NGOs at outreach programs lang ang maaasahan na mag-educate ng mga mommy who don't have access to childcare books or prenatal checkups and consultations, not those commercials.

Regarding your babies (were they premature by the way? that's tough), if formula-feeding was your pedia's advice I'm sure it was the right thing to do :)

I don't give my baby vitamins kasi I try to maintain a good diet because fortunately for me I know that that's important when breastfeeding. :) The most I do when hindi ako nakakapagluto ng maayos is take vitamins myself para atleast it's passed on to my baby. The pedia and doctor agreed that I don't have to give my baby vitamins if I maintain a good diet.

Also, I'm not saying that you did something wrong but I've heard and read that breastfed babies don't increase in weight as much as formula fed babies. So ang dapat tignan, as stated by this pedia who's also a breastfeeding advocate, is does he/she reach the developmental milestones for her age, is she happy and alert? If oo then your baby is developing fine. Also look for a drop or plateau in weight but if may steady growth naman ok yon. Some babies are bigger or smaller than others and the charts pedias use are approximates naman.

Yes colostrum is important but breastfeeding day by day, month by month has a lot of advantages, because human milk is biologically specific for human babies. Everyday it changes to suit the baby's needs, ganyan kagaling ang breastmilk.

Human milk contains enzymes, hormones, and immunoglobulins that simply can't be duplicated in formula, although formula manufacturers keep trying. They advertise that their brand is "most like mother's milk", but even they agree that breastmilk is best, hence the caption on their cans and tv ads. :)

My son used S26 regular for the first 6 months. S26 gold daw are for babies na medyo kulang sa weight and iron..Yung baby ko naman ok kaya sabi ng pedia yun na lang. Then, colic baby kasi sya..Although there are no scientific evidence or know fact talaga of what causes colic among babies, I tried using the S26 Lactosefree as prescribe by another doctor. Kasi need daw ng baby ang lactose..So made us switch to NAN HA. Pansin ko lang...when my baby is using S26 grabeee...super bango...among baby talaga...manamis namis..but then when we switc to NAN HA..parang naging maasim yung amoy...which accdg to other mothers I talked too ..ganun din daw effect sa kanila.

My baby's APE result is he's underweight. Sabi ng pedia, 11 kg daw kasi yung lowest normal weight for his age e he's just 10.3 kg. The pedia prescribed Nutren Jr. which is super expensive. A 400 g can costs 432.25 pesos and the formulation is 7 scoops + 210 ml water. :(

For those feeding their babies with formula milk, what are you using? I've got a sample of Frisolac from my gynecologist's clinic but I really don't know if I want to use it on our baby... I know breast milk is best for babies but we're planning on supplementing it with formula milk.

1st- 12 mos..i gave my baby similac advanced, now (15 mo-old) whole milk.

Hi mommies, My son Kenzo has been taking NanHA1 since he was 2 months old(he is 4 months now). That was prescribed to him by his pedia because he belongs to the "sensitive skin" group of babies. I noticed for 3 weeks now that he hardly consumes 4 oz. when supposedly for his age, he should be drinking atleast 6oz per feeding. In his last check up just last saturday, hindi naman siya underweight, but because I think he doesn't get enough/sufficient feeding I suspected he doesn't like his milk. I was asking for an alternative to NanHa but pedia says there's none. What we do is give him the milk when he is half asleep para lang makaubos siya ng atleast 3-4 oz (every 4-5 hours). But when he is awake, he just plays with his milk. I am tempted to try alternating another brand of milk with NanHa even without pedia's approval. Problem is, of the many brands, I don't know which to try. Is there any mom here who is in the same situation as mine? What did you do? I just wanted my baby to get enough from his feedings.

i breastfeed for 1 and 1/2 month then i have to work. my baby's pedia prescribed to give my baby NEOSURE gosh very expensive! the 900g (imagine less than 1 kilo) it costs 640. my baby consumes it for only a week :(

mulberry_me: How much milk does your son drink per day? I read that for formula-fed babies who aren't on solids yet, the number of ounces they drink per day should be 2 or 2.5 times their weight in pounds. So if your baby's 15 pounds, he should be getting 30-37.5 ounces total per day. I think it's ok that he doesn't want to drink 6oz in one sitting if he eats more frequently to make up for it. Are you still partially breastfeeding? Maybe he's also getting more breastmilk from you than you realize. :)

Hi Tina, no more breastfeeding, wala na talaga. So baby feeds on formula alone. He weighs 13.8 lbs this week and he gets atmost 20 ounces total per day (4 ounces/4 hours per pedias advise) but on the average he just consumes 3 oz. per feeding, there's always a leftover. And he plays with the milk, parang he won't swallow it all. Though his weight naman is ok for his age, am just thinking baka he doesnt get enough nutrients because he eats less and also baka my baby's brain and overall development won't progress well.

Hi tina11, is annika starting on solids now? Xan is due for check up this week and the last time we went there i was told he's supposed to be starting on solids na this month. Mababawasan kaya milk consumption nya? Boy, he consumes his big s26 can in just 7 days. wa ba cheaper alternative? hehehe...and to top it all, he just broke his duyan last night and he's supposed to be using it until his 7th-8th month pa. :D

mulberry_me yeah parang kulang nga yung 20 ounces :( is Kenzo showing these signs of being underfed (http://www.askdrsears.com/html/0/T000100.asp#T031009)? Have you tried offering him milk after 1 or 2 hours to see if he's still hungry? Maybe it's time to start him on solids too :) My baby's on NAN2 - I don't know if the taste is different from NAN HA, but she seems to like it. Yun nga lang towards the end of the feeding (we give her 5 oz usually)she just bites and plays with the nipple instead of sucking.

purple siguro by the end of May we'll start her on solids, very slowly because I don't want her to have food allergies like I do :) How did he break his duyan? Incredible Hulk din si Xan ah :D

mulberry_me, how about asking another pedia? baka **** kse meron pang ibang alternative na milk jan. maybe your bebi doesn't like the taste eh. With my Xan **** baliktad, barely 3 months pa lang sya nun kulang na ang 4 ounces and he cries like hell on the 3rd hour eh supposedly every 4 hours sya mag feed. Inconsolable sya at natataranta kami sa pag prepare ng milk nya kse dinig ng buong bahay pati kapitbahay ang iyak nya :D. when he would finally have his milk he would suck on like there's no tomorrow tapos pag naubos na ang milk nya at naka burp na sya 2-3 times mag smile na sya ng super sweet smile nya na parang walang nangyari. precious!
OT: have you tried the mulberries in Sagada?

purpleheadd07:Nakakainggit naman the healthy appetite of Xan,:) yap, I am going to change baby's pedia na (not just because of milk issues ha), another 'good' accomodating, approachable pedia was referred to me, unfortunately, I didn't meet her in person yet cos she was out of the country when I visited her last saturday. I really suspect ayaw niya ng milk niya, I was also discussing with other moms here in the office and I get same feedback that their babies didn't like NanHA too. Actually, I am curious to try S26.Am just putting it on hold for awhile cos I wanted to get new pedia's advise, baka mamaya yung curiosity ko mag induce na naman ng allergies kay baby.

About the mulberries in sagada: I haven't,:( what specie of mulberries do they have there? I've only had a taste of the red mulberry.

purpleheadd07, I practice feeding on demand so when bebi cries, I give him milk and not wait for a particular number of hours. But he's mostly breastfed so it might be a different thing. About the duyan, can't you repair it?

mulberry_me, I also kept on asking our pedia if she could recommend another formula since bebi was underweight. She said that he's underweight because he takes after me. When we brought him to another pedia, she recommended Nutren Jr.(formula) and Mosegor Vita(vitamins). Bebi did gain weight after that.

We finally met my baby's new pedia. Despite that not so plenty amount of milk he drinks, he gained a lot. Our new pedia explains, that 3-4 oz of milk for Kenzo's age is still ok. And if we change formula now, rashes might thrive on baby's skin again, so not advisable. I've changed nanny too. And she shared that Kenzo infact drinks a lot but is indeed playful. I assumed that the first nanny was not that patient in feeding kenzo, baka kasi pag nilalaro na ni baby ang milk, she would take it off na lang. Atleast now, am not that worried anymore, am also looking forward to next month when I start solids on baby.;)

Same dilemma here!

My baby Justin is now on his 13month.
Since birth, NAN HA na milk nya kc meron siyang allergy with Soya. G6PD positive kc siya. Nung baby siya, andaming lumabas na rashes, all over his body. Similac yung milk nya nung una, tapos changed na into NAN HA. Eversince yun lang nainom nyang gatas. After his 1st birthday, nag-change me sa LACTUM, una ok pa.. nagustuhan nya yung lasa. but after a week, andami nang lumabas na rashes. Kaya no choice, balik ulit me ng NAN HA.

^^ hi there, depende san hiyang baby mo, kase ako din, when my daughter was about to turn to 2 yo, I tried switching her milk from gain/pediasure to enfa since madami ngang positive reviews and it's cheaper compare to gain2. kaya lang hindi hiyang sa kanya. (hindi ok yung poopoo) even yung pedia nya sabi mas masarap daw talaga sa mga bata ang gain. by the way, the thing that bothered me the most was that my kid's pedia used to have patients who were enfa series users as kids, na some were dentists pa nga parents, sabi nya nakakasira daw ng teeth enfa. Anyway, I think it's best to ask din your kid's pedia re which formula to use, lalo na kung wala pa one year old si baby mo. Goodluck :)

my sister never had milk come out of her breasts after she had given birth to her 1st and only baby. due to stress daw. she had taken malunggay capsules pero wala pa rin effect.

as a result, my niece became a formula baby :) buti na lang nung kakapanganak pa lang niya, my cousin still had breastmilk (her son is 4 mos older than my niece), she supplied us with at least 2oz of her own breastmilk for one month din yata yun. ok naman... kaya lang ngayon 1yr 6 mos na niece ko and yung anak ng cousin ko mag 2 yrs na, lagi silang nag-aaway, nag-aagawan kung ano gusto ng isa gusto din nung isa. sabi ng mga oldies dito, ganun daw talaga magiging effect pag nag-share ng milk mga babies. for us, true yun! ;)

eniwey, s-26 gold, promil gold and now, progress gold ang gamit ng niece ko. The last time we went to her pedia, we asked if it's the milk causing her to grow so fast. Mas malaki pa siya dun sa cousin nya and most of her playmates na mas matanda pa sa kanya. Inihinto nga namin ang growee vitamins (nagpanic daw ba!).

sabi ng pedia nya, wag daw naming ibahin ang milk coz it's good for the brain.

during my son's 2nd month check up, i asked his pediatrician which formula he could recommend... he told me all formulas are the same and he really could not recommend any brand... so i spent hours at the grocery comparing nutritional information and true enough, all have almost the same nutritional composition... so i just picked up the one with a slightly higher caloric value... and the good thing is it's not as expensive as enfamil or similac...

but after putting my son on formula only, he would only go every 2-3 days and his poop is green with a pasty consistency... his doctor said it was because of the iron in the formula and it's nothing to worry about... some parents change to low-iron formula but that's not good for the baby daw...

Ngayon naman her pedia recommends to use S26 plain or Enfalac na plain...

My baby is 2 months now... mixed feeding *** breastmilk sa morning and late evening. Formula in the afternoon. Our pedia recommend Enfalac A+ naging kabagin nga si baby kyan so nag Enfa Lacto Free ganun pa din kabagin...

While my baby is 80% breastfeed pa din *** maganda tignan *** taba nya.

And also ang sabi ng pedia ko wag ko daw painumin ng water si baby kasi 0 calories daw un at hindi daw maganda sa new born baby. Super lagi nya sinasabi sa amin un. Need ur opinion about this mommies...

I think the issue with formula and fatter babies is that (1)it's high in sugar and (2)there's a tendency to force the baby to finish all the formula maybe because of (a) fear that the baby may not be getting enough and (b)the cost (mahal ang formula and sayang pag di inubos)? Whereas if the baby is exclusively breastfed, it's almost impossible to overfeed him/her

From what I've read and consultations with the doc, babies that early should not drink water because besides the fact that it's got zero calories and could keep your baby full and not nursing, it also might cause an electrolyte imbalance.
My baby is now almost 7mos old and he only started drinking water a few weeks ago when he started solids. He had been exclusively breastfed. And even now, minimal water lang talaga. Just for him to play with. Maybe half an ounce or less in a day.

Dalee, My baby didn't like the milk that much he could hardly consume 4 oz in one feeding at nearly 10 months. When he turned 10 months as in ayaw na niya uminom ng milk. I tried tasting and comparing it to other brands, may off taste kasi pala yung NanHa (parang mapait). Now he drinks Nestogen and he can consume 7oz in 1 feeding. But the pdia didn't know about this. Shhh

hi dalee, that's my baby's milk since birth and ok na ok ang katawan nya :) hiyang na hiyang din sya sa milk na yan, now at almost 11months, nan2ha na sya. noong nasa almost 5months sya, inaayawan nya na rin yan, kasi nga when i tasted it, nde nga masarap, yep medyo may off taste. pero since gusto ko na rin na yun ang milk nya at hiyang sya, i tried experimenting, pinalitan ko nipple ng bottle nya ng next size, ayun ok na. balik dede ulit sya ng marami. paminsan minsan parang ayaw nya na rin nga ng gatas na yan, pero ayaw ko na rin magpalit, after a few days lang din naman kasi nagugustuhan nya na ulit :D
ayaw ko kasi ng matatamis na gatas for her :)

Skyz, did that too with my baby then pero ayaw talaga niya. So I thought it would be better to switch milk rather than not having milk at all. Good results naman cos my baby gained weight steadily.

Dalee, if your baby's intake is ok naman, I suggest you go on with his milk until he reaches 1 then saka na kayo magshift to another brand.

total breastfeeding from birth to 2+, then went on pediasure via pedia's recommendation from 2+ to 5. this april switched to wyeth's promise gold 4. april 2006 my child's weight was 17 k and height 107 cm, after 3 months on this milk his weight is now 19.5k and height 110 cm!

January 2007, still on Promise Gold 4, my son now weighs 24 kilos with 24 inch waistline and height is 114 cm. ofcourse, supplemented ng Cherifer Forte and Pedcee vitamins daily. If you have a chance to buy this milk, try it...

haha!! ako rin, i exclusively breastfed for 1 month pero di kaya ng powers ko, pag tulog sila pump ako pag gising naman milk sa akin.para akong cow. so unti unting na decrease yung milk supply ko because of stress at wala pa akong yaya that time so wala talagang pahinga. anyways back to the topic, 1-6 months nan1, 6-12 months nan2, now at 15 months progress gold, but i just got out of the doctor's office this morning and before i left i was asking about the formula of the twins, and frankly speaking daw, she look at the nutritional values comparing it with expensive brands vs. nido fortified, mas mataas daw ang calcium content nito which is 1000 vs 400-450. the rest is almost the same, so its not true daw na if its expensive, its the best.(breastmilk is still best for babies) so im looking into shifting them to nido but i'll check first if theyre hiyang. im not from nestle ha:)

purpleheadd07, did your ped tell you why hindi puede? i asked kasi the docs here why usually pag 1yo na ang baby they give whole milk na (whereas sa atin, formula pa din until, age 3?) and they said that because at 1yo daw, the bulk of the baby's nutrients should come from the food that they're eating (so parang supplement lang yung milk).

^^Im from abbott..yung Pediasure Abbott product. I guess what your Pedia said is true. kasi dito they recommend Vanilla flavors than Choco sa pediasure. mas gusto din ng mga kids yung lasa. *okay*

since im working @ abbott, my baby started from Similac, then Gain, then Gain Plus. 40% off ako sa milk so nakakatipid-tipid. I asked his Pedia what maganda replacement, she recommends Enfa____ Gold, forgot the exact name. nakakapanghinayang yung discount ko! huhuhuhu

Hi! I just want to share.... nag breastfed kasi ako for nine months sa baby kahit na nag wowork ako. :)
