of course it's already given that you should work hard . yeah we all know that. you should be excellent in what you do.
but my question is how do you exactly get yourself pirated?
my friend who worked for a big ad agency before wanted to be pirated. so what he did, he started making friends from the
other agency. chit chat...talk...etc and then pops out the big revelalation "Yeam, im thinking of seeking a new family etc..?" etc etc and then if you're lucky, the newly discovered friend of yours will take note of that and inform his kapamilya's. sooner or later, you are now invited for lunch or dinner and that's when the offer comes in.
i believe you also have to do your share to get yourself pirated.
can anybody share their experiences?

I've been pirated thrice, well actually there were five attempts but I turned down the other two. Honestly I don't have any secrets to share. Maybe I'm just lucky because I happened to be at the right place and time. I always believe that hardwork pays off so do your thing well and employers will hear about you. Also it wouldn't hurt if you start networking like getting to know people who work in the same industry. Start making yourself visible in conferences and seminars and you'll get to meet them there. Be very subtle though when you get the chance to talk to them. Some employers do not like the idea of pirating people from rival companies because they think it is an unethical thing to do so don't spread yourself too thin. Make it appear that you are having great fun in your job. Just give them your business card and let them know that they can reach you anytime they need help. Most will understand what you mean. Write down your mobile number at the back of your card because prospective employers will not call you at your office, unless of course they're headhunters.

As your career progresses, pick up the habit of filing your resume with a headhunter and updating it regularly. "Pirates" tend to use headhunters because it gives them confidentiality and reduces embarrassment on both sides if an offer is not accepted.

Where do you find headhunters? Jobsites? How will you for example drop your resume with some of the headhunters out there?

I make use of head hunters. I don't necessarily apply with them, they're good at making research. They call you up at the office and say that you were referred. I'm in the HR field so I'm not suprised about their calls since I meet a lot of HR people (esp from other call centers). We even greet each other at some forums and job fairs. I've made good connections that are beneficial come application time.
Applications for mid-management positions coursed through head hunters are good. You're pampered and they adjust to your needs.

I've seen this several times nung nasa Pinas pa ako. Pag na-pirate yung Project Manager, dala nya yung mga SA, Progs, and even QAs nya.
Base on experience, mas madaling ma-pirate kung consultant ka since the company na mamimirata sa yo have alreay gauged your capabilities and have a rough idea on how you'll fit in their scheme of things.

Yeah -- I'm interested also with that...what would be the most ethical way to do that? (Coz pirating as a term is not that good anymore) :D
