View Full Version : Earning Money Through EBAY

I've read stories about people who made lots of money by selling in Ebay. Of course, most of them are US based.

So if you're in Manila, is it possible to achieve the same?

If yes, how?

Calling all Ebay PExers! Speak your mind here!

Thanks.

The most obvious way I know to make money from eBay is to inexpensively source goods for which other people might be willing to pay a lot of money. Is there any other way?

but you need paypal account (i think) b4 u can register in ebay. and paypal has not considered Phil. yet in their operation.

i have an idea, not sure if this is practical but... ,
if you have friends there who frequently visit US and back, you can bid items at ebay and sell it here for a higher price :)
for example, 512Mb pendrives that cost, say 80 dollars, you can sell it here for $110 (more or less) and still be cheap compared to store prices. right now, pendrives at 512MB costs about 7 to 8K php.

if ebay hasn't considered pinas yet for its paypal operations...how do the philippine-based sellers get their money?

ready2go
Jul 5, 2004, 02:05 AM
here's what i've researched so far...

being a member of paypal makes everything so easy on ebay. too bad the philippines is indeed not yet part of their operations.

and most philippine-based sellers get their money through western union and/or other similar means. very tasking specially if your buyer is not an american or a stubborn one.

steadyboy2k.... what exactly are you suggesting?

thanks.

on what i heard, it seems that paypal & an entity signed an agreement. business agreement that is. for the later to do the nitty gritty of the work in the Philippines w/ the help of a prestigious bank. so the chance of paypal doing biz in the Philippines w/ the same set up they do in other country is nil.

I was into eBay about this time last year. To make the long story short, I quit my job because of the things I sold on eBay. I was able to buy a Brand New Car. I didn't need PayPal, although if I had access to PayPal, I think I could have sold much more. My product stopped selling last November. 6 months of selling on eBay was worth it. Now, I'm waiting for the next hit product that I could sell.

Ebay products sent to/for the Philippines? Mahirap ata iyan kasi yong buyer ang magbabayad ng Shipping & handling then pagdating sa customs sa atin baka istop pa nila or may babayaran ka pang additions. But seriously guys I don't know if buying things from ebay is good ok lang ***** in some particular products but in some products they are of poor quality daw(heard on TV) yong iba ay gamit na or maybe expired either sa actual products, services or manufacturer's guarantee kumbaga.

Why don't you just ask if you have a trusted friends here to buy it for you just pay for a certain S&H: mostly for smaller items na pwedeng ilagay sa folder sizer envelope is $10-$20 I usually pay mine $15.

This is how I do mine when I send something to my parents & sister. It would be there sa Pinas in 10 days mostly.

Anyway suggestions lang. Hehhehe

Usually those drugs like Viagra, Vicodin, Propecia, HGH, etc. are sold online. Is that right, bigbadwolf? ;)

Or guys, why not try online affiliate programs selling college diplomas or generic drugs instead? My friend, who has been doing this for only 4 months, has already bought a brand new RAV. :)

Nope.. you can sell in ebay even without paypal account. You can use bank wire either. I have a friend in Davao who is selling mobilephones in ebay for almost 2 years now and he's making a lot of money.

It's a very big market with a lot of DEMANDS which we can easily SUPPLY. It's just a matter of research and add a little experience, and voila, eBay PowerSeller ka na.

I just wanna know kung may special type of bank account na kailangan o ok na 'tong normal na savings account?

May iba pa bang paraan ng pag accept ng payment na di masyadong kamahalan? what's the least costly way?

Ilan ba kinikita mo?

There was a recent Entrepreneur issue entirely about eBay - it was a really good read for me kasi I just recently bought my first eBay item. I would love to try selling through eBay kaso I'm just here in the US for a few months vaca and uwi na ko soon. Sayang. It's definitely easier when you're here, I guess, pero like bigbadwolf said, it's not impossible kahit nasa Pinas na. Now I'm looking at options to try the eBay experience kahit uwi na ko.

Whats the point in using auction sniper?? Ebay has a much better system built in..

Proxy Bidding

Enter your maximum, then sit back and watch.

eBay uses a helpful bidding system (called proxy bidding) to make bidding on auctions more convenient and less time-consuming for buyers.

Here's how it works:

When you place a bid, you enter the maximum amount you'd be willing to pay for the item. Your maximum amount is kept confidential from other bidders and the seller.
The eBay system compares your bid to those of the other bidders.
The system places bids on your behalf, using only as much of your bid as is necessary to maintain your high bid position (or to meet the reserve price). The system will bid up to your maximum amount.
If another bidder has a higher maximum, you'll be outbid. BUT, if no other bidder has a higher maximum, you win the item. And you could pay significantly less than your maximum price.

This means you don't have to keep coming back to re-bid every time another bid is placed.

Note: This bidding system does not apply to Multiple Item Auctions (Dutch Auctions).

tip: if you plan to earn more in e-Bay, you can do this:

pay someone else to place bids for your product, this is to increase the price and of course, the popularity of your product. a friend of mine does this, and currently, he has 3-4 people who has separate e-bay and paypal accounts placing bids on his products. now, the money these people use in placing bids is also his money, so, umiikot lang yung pera talaga. i think he pays his people about 300-500 a month, tas pag nabenta yung product sa mataas na price, the "employee" who placed the last bid before it got sold gets a commission.

Of course this is unethical, and under E-Bay rules can result in everyone involved getting banned.

I've sold a couple of stuff on Ebay -- vintage bicycle parts. The biggest hassle in selling on Ebay is accepting payment. You can't open a Paypal account from the Philippines, due to rampant credit card fraud. One solution is to use BidPay, which is a facility that allows auction winners to send Western Union money orders internationally. The problem with this is that it takes 20+ days to recieve the money order in the mail (it's sent from NY). Also, most Ebay users in the US prefer dealing with sellers that accept Paypal.

The second problem is shipping your items to your buyer. FedEx and DHL rates to the US are ridiculous. EMS (available at your local post office) is more reasonable, but still expensive. I think I spent around P900 shipping some parts that weighed less than 0.5kg.

This is how I make money off eBay.

Certain Magic the Gathering cards (e.g. Power 9) are very hard to come by in Manila.

My terms:

Inform me what card(s) you want and give me a realistic bid of the card price.

Pay my contact in Manila a 50% downpayment in dollars before I even bid.

If I win the card and you don't claim the card, i keep that 50%.

Payment due upon receipt of card in dollars.

and my fee for bidding is 15% on top of total card price (including shipping, handling and insurance)

But I only do this when I am going home to Manila or when someone I know is going to Manila.

This year, I'll be claiming about $200 in fees. Some of the cards that were ordered off me fetch quite a hefty price (e.g. $300++) So it's quite good.

Of course if I see a good card deal cheap, I get it and resell the card. :) Yeah I've sold some cards of eBay.

Hey Guys I will be opening an ebay store soon as soon as my Items arrive ready to be retailed.I'm more sa clothing & sexy lengeries. Seguro sa future I'll open another ebay store for electronics din. Anyway here are some information I will try to give for those who are trying to start.

To start an ebay Kailangan may Bank account ka(preferably checking acount/Check Card VISA/Mastercard logo) at since most seller/buyer prefers Paypal Payment. With Paypal they are the most secured so far in completing a transaction in case there is a fraud. But Credit cards from the Philippines is not acceptable ata. Pagka bank to bank kasi or wire transfer mahirap irecover or sometimes not traceable pa.

Its like commission ata. But I am not sure. As most people do that too.

If you are trying to sell/buy Hi-Tech Gadgets such as cellphones and acc. dapat may capital ka at alam mo kung saan kukuha ng supplier/wholesaler mo. Mostly bibili ka ng 100pcs for lets say $100/piece & you can sell it 2-3x sa price na binabayaran mo. But mostly kasi sa mga suppliers minimum ay 500-1000 PCS sa mga HOT na phones ngayon so kailangan ng capital.

Now as for bidding/auction naman ito yong feature kung sino mananalo or may pinakahighest na BID(amount a buyer is willing to pay) after the auction time ang siyang bibili ng item. For example ang listing start $0.01 tapos si A magbid ng $0.51(mostly $0.50 increment) at maximum bid nya is $5. Ngayon let say 5 minutes na lang ang remaining time then may C na nagbid ng $10 so outbid si A & B. C has the chance to win the item but if A or B will bid another price higher then 10 or much higher than the current price then one gets it once its over(0 seconds).

Or you can simply use BUY IT NOW Items.

What do you think?

Yes this will work, as far as receiving your payment, if you trust your brother. Your brother keeps the paypal account in his name, attaches his bank account to transfer the funds from paypal to his account and then you can open a LBC ATM card and withdraw the money in PI. Of course you have to have a product that sells first and your brother has to deposit the money in your LBC account. Another way I think you could do this (although I haven't tried it) is to open a paypal credit card in your brothers name but keep the card yourself and withdraw the funds at an atm in PI. Remember, not all buyers have paypal, so if paypal is the only payment you accept, you will limit your buyers. Usually, on ebay, the buyer pays for shipping, so it is best for an oversees seller to list a fixed shipping charge on the auction because bidders don't want to be surprised with high shipping costs after they win the auction.

Start with a product you think that will sell at cost value and you could even make a slight profit on shipping. Make sure you add ebay, paypal and money transfer fees. If the bid goes above cost then your profit is higher. Of course don't quit your permanent job unless your product becomes in high demand.

I bought and sold a lot of stuff on ebay but only as a hobby. The most I have profited in one month is $1700, but the more I made, the faster I spent it. It was not worth it that much for me because of the time it took away from my family, friends and other hobbies. I was making extra money, but I was neglecting other important things in my life, so I stopped selling for now, but I still buy stuff on ebay. I won't quit my job for ebay.

1. Sign up for ebay.ph and use your username and password to login to ebay.com
2. You must have a credit or debit card to actually sell on ebay.com. They need your card so they charge you for listing your items.
3. Since you can't sign up for PayPal as a Philippine resident, you may want to sign up for iKobo (http://www.ikobo.com/ref.cgi?r=GR961698US) so you can accept visa payments. Or you can try PhilPay (http://www.philpay.net) and have your customers pay PhilPay thru PayPal. Your funds will be deposited to your bank account here. You can also try Xoom (http://xoom.directtrack.com/z/63/CD934/) where you can get some PayPal buttons for your website. Thought it's a little bit more expensive than PhilPay.
4. When you have earned enough thru iKobo or some other online payment solution and want the money here in the Philippines, PhilPay can facilitate your funds to your bank account.

More info at feedback@philpay.net.

Lack of credibility, indeed, can cost someone his financial opportunity!
Not just in eBay....

how much ang fees sa eBay.ph? if meron man, and how about sa eBay.com?

have transacted 20+ times na with sellers at eBay.com, and BidPay ang suki kong payment method. Never had any problems with their money orders, accept din sila ng Manila-issued Citibank credit cards.

Absolutely no fees for listing and selling at ebay.ph for now. Sa ebay.com, you have to check out the fees page. Different fees for different stuff you want to sell.

Standard fee is only 45c per transaction for a merchant account. Exchange rate used is local bank rates with no additional commission (unlike all remittance agencies). Withdrawal fees apply.

You may also use any 3rd party shopping cart on your site (such as iKobo, Yowcow, Stormpay, etc.) and just use PhilPay as a funds transfer facility to get it in pesos. More info at http://www.philpay.net.

How does the wire transfer work?

If you have funds in other online payment processor, just send it to Philpay's account with that payment processor. We then release the funds in the Philippines direct to your peso bank account or thru G-Cash. Coming soon also Smart Money. For more info on Philpay's services, visit http://www.philpay.net.

this is somewhat ebay-related. anyway here's my current predicament: i have some products i wanna sell to the foreign market. i do not have a credit card (and my parents won't let me use theirs). I wanna sell my stuff on ebay but i don't at all know how to get about doing things.

some questions:

what's a good way to receive payments? i figure these are some things i can perhaps do but i'd like to hear your opinions on them: i can ask an aunt to get me a paypal account to make things easier. or maybe she can receive payments in my behalf via checks mailed to her.

i hear bank-to-bank wire transfer is expensive (on the buyers' part), and since the products i'll be selling won't be too costly (round $20- $40), it won't seem as an attractive payment option for them. (actually i've receivede cash via wire transfer before, but those were payments from goods i sold wholesale, so the amount was i guess somewhat bigger to offset the cost of wire transfer [round $800]. but even then, my buyer was already somewhat complaining about the costs.)

also: how exactly does paypal work?

and, how do you send your products to your buyers? regular post, or courier? what's your experience with this? have you ever had an instance when they din't receive it? how much would it cost (say, for something that weighs less than a pound)?

thanks much.

I already have two bidders for my XMEN TPB!

Pero palugi kasi ang benta ko.
