View Full Version : Not Fair!!! Do you know how much Massage Therapists make?
fr34k
Jul 9, 2004, 01:23 PM
just damn.
Depending on whether they work for someone, or self employed, Massage Therapists earn between $20 to $65 per hour. Massage Therapists that work in exclusive country clubs or health spas, earn an additional $10 to $50 per hour on tips given by appreciative clients.
I should have just enrolled in an 8-month Massage Theraphy Program and get certified than spending 4 long years in College!

OK, so we got carried away. Sorry.
But what is the point? You sounded like you were lamenting the possible lost income (3+ years by my calculation) because you went to college instead of getting a massage therapist's certificate. It sounds like crying over spilled milk. At anytime during your college career, did you know about the earnings potential of massage therapists? I certainly didn't during mine, so in my case it is pointless to regret not doing anything about it. It was not an alternative that was known to me.
What I am suggesting is that you can have both a college degree and be a massage therapist (again, unless your fingers are already stuck together). If I were getting a massage, and assuming I had to choose between two therapists of equal skill, one with a college degree and another without, I would probably choose the college degree holder. One reason might be that the chances for a mentally stimulating conversation during the massage would be greater.
You have advantages, whether you know them or not.

Sorry guys but I have found out that here in America MOSTLY Massage Therapists is the professional name for PROSTITUTES. NO OFFENSE HA but this is TRUE. They are usually hired in CLUBS even hotels & I didn't know that before until I meet a lady and asking her what she does for a living "MASSAGE THERAPIST" & so of course I asked here which university did she went to & my husband told me that it is not the one I think for a massage therapist.
Even in the Philippines this once exist.
I found this in an article:MASSAGE THERAPIST
*What business you are REALLY in (and no it's not the massage therapy business)
*There is a hidden financial risks in practising massage therapy - it is a crime that you're not taught this in college.
*There is a dark side of massage therapy

KD, I don't know if there is satire on your remark (since I do not see any smiley), but i find this a little comical, pardon me, fr34k.
Anyway, I think it's not all about money. Besides, their incomes heavily depend on the customers that come to them as (compared an ordinary employee with a more secure and stable job).
What if an automated massaging machine is invented? What would you think happen had you not taken your 4-year degree and became a full-fledged masseur? When job safety and security is concerned, I would choose a college degree anytime (kahit na 5 taon pa yung ibang degrees, OK pa rin)..
Three words that might help, dude:
Count your blessings

Maybe some, but only a little. But I was dead serious when I wrote the very last sentence in that post. A college education is something I respect and feel strongly about. Even after n years it evidences its value to me. So when people think it a waste I am hurt and disappointed.
As for the massage therapists - I will probably never have the chance to find two of them of equal skill which I could choose from, so the situation is academic.

I see your point. Of course I wouldn't trade my university experience over some quickie training program...I was being sarcastic there. I was merely whining about how unjust and unfair life can be, but don't fret...I got over it already. I'll just count my blessings for now, as what Oliver stated, and get on with my life.

Prostitutes exchange sex for money, massage therapists don't. I'm talking about professional MTs here...certified and licensed ones. Escorting is a different story.

 Great thread of insecurity about the next person making a wee bit more moolah.
So they get a wee bit more than expected. So they get more when they render extra services. So they have a profession where it is not learned within the bounds of the 4 walls of a classroom. If you're calling it "unfair", or be jealous about it, why not join their program?! If you can't beat 'em, JOIN 'EM!!!

This is not strictly true....There are lots of pro/qualified massage therapists that offer "other services" to suppliment their income.
Not that I know from experience of course!!
A friend told me..

Who are you to put a value on their skilled service??
What do you produce that has more value?
