hello...
need advice from civil engineers or architects.
I'm planning to put 2 big aquariums in our house...
our floor is wooden..
i'm planning to put 2 150 gallon aquarium which would weigh around 3000 lbs with water..
can our floor take the weight?
i'm placing it near the wall . but our floor is wooden... rightnow there are 2 85 gallon aquariums which would wight about 1500 lbs , i'm planning to replace this 2 with bigger aquariums...
any way to strengthen the floor from the above?
also will it be able to take the weight?

one of the ways to strengthen your floor from above is to suspend your floor (like a hanger) from your roof beam if you have one. If that beam can sustain that 3000+ lbs... then no prob

How about bolting the aquarium cabinet to the wall in several places to aid with the weight??
Im no engineer but you will have to take up some floor sections to see the direction your joists run and how far they go into the wall..Also how far apart they are and general condition and size.
Also I would have thought it would be easier to build a reinforced concrete beam underneath the joists or in the room below..
Or someone might be taking an early bath!!

salamat sa suggestions..
kasi may nakarent sa baba namin... kung pwede sana i don't want to disturb them eh..
i'll try to take pictures of the floor and wall and beams sa ilalim if possible... post ko agad asap...
thanks ha:)

eto pala sana plano ko kung kakayanin na kaya nito?
or kailangan talaga reinforce pa yung floor?
yung wall pala is cement.

wolfman im no engineer nor ane xpert but it doesnt matter if you are using wood or concrete... just make sure that in your computation the wood/concrete supports can sustain a liveload of 3000lbs+++ at a specific area, thats about the weight of 2 automobiles.
Check lang with a structural engineer if the existing columns and beams can sustain such load, and if not, maybe the existing columns or beams need to be superimposed (or what u call it). The load computation will show you how thick the beams and columns should be. If you find constructing concrete beams inconvient (which will), try asking if a steel section/truss assembly like a steel bridge for the bottom support is possible.
Well if you dont want to disturb the occupants below while making a new beam, check if your exisiting column can support a roof beam that can carry a suspended load of 3000lbs+++ ala suspension bridge (hanging). In that way the aquarium is not acting on the wooden floor but it is hanging from the ceiling.

thanks FendeR_21
grabe oo nga ang bigat talaga ng tanks..
i'll have it checked..
if it can't handle the weight guess i 'll have to put my tanks outside.

well, yung choice mo will depend on the distance between the two columns.....kung sobrang malayo, kailangan mo ng deep i-beam or wide flange......ang pangit naman non sa aesthetics....yung attention mapupunta dun at hindi sa aquarium.....hehehhehe
