Food generally costs about RM 5 to 10 per meal, but with an occassional Starbuck's and groceries, it really comes to about RM 700-800/month.
Renting a car costs about RM 1,500-2,000/ month.
Housing varies from RM 500 for a room in someone else's house/apartment to RM 3,000 for your own apartment/house.
Hope that helps.
May Angels smile upon you,

Hi guys...
i'll be moving to malaysia by end of august and im looking for a place to stay, or possibly a filipina who's looking for a roommate.
My office address is at Virginia Park Jalan Universiti Petaling Jaya
Selangor Darul Ehsan, KL. Im sorry, hindi pa ako familiar sa place kaya i included the complete address. Can someone help me or refer me to a somebody who can?
Im looking for a small apartment sana and my budget is 500-700.
For those looking for a roommate, I am 30 y/o (but definitely a young at heart), married (but ill be going there alone), i am a movie buff, i love to bake, i like to cook but seldom do it =), i play all kinds of card games hehehe, i love playing mahjong, i'm a technical person, i like buying stuff especially for the house, i drink occasionally.
so, if anybody's interested, pls do email me at leiny15@yahoo.com.
Thank you so much and hope to see lots of filipinos in malaysia soon!!!

hi pauster007, hi sentiments,
based on the info that i was able to gather (from the net and my employer), malaysia has one of the lowest tax rates in the world it being an oil producing country.
I was informed that tax rates can go anywhere from 6-10%, i think they also have brackets. At any rate, this is the range.
As for compensation, it all depends on your status...are you single? married? with kids?
Rent there depends on the location. But, the range that i was able to get was from RM600 to a couple of thousands depending on your requirements. With arnd RM600, you can already get a 1-bedrm aprtmnt. Pero, this doesnt have aircon...So if you wish to get a more upscale class apartment, its best for you to share the house para share din sa expenses. Utilities are very cheap. electricity can be between 100-150 (again, everything depends on your lifestyle) but for the basic appliances, 100/month ok na...
food is very cheap. you can have a full meal for only RM3-5.
transportation is very cheap, as well as accessible. there are lots of cabs, trains and busses...fares can go as low as 0.80 cents for trains...
So, all in all, you can give yourself a budget of RM1500-2000 for all the basic things that you will be needing for the month...So, from there, just pad-on how much you wanna save to your asking salary. Approximate exchange rate is at P15 - RM1.
Malaysia is a multi-racial country. Everybody is so friendly and accomodating. But of course, for every country, lagi may mga iba ang ugali...But generally, mababait sila...They dont discriminate and they are very respectful and polite with other races/religions, etc...
I hope this info helped you guys...

sentiments,
another thing, if you're in the i.t. industry (as i am), you might wanna send me ur resume so that i can forward it to my employer...kasi they are into i.t. outsourcing...i.t. solutions...so most probably, may position for you...what happens is that, they will hire you but you will be working for the client (so, office mo will be at the client's office)...
just email me at leiny15@yahoo.com
hope to hear from you soon!!!

For IT positions (technical), it all depends on your competency and years of experience. Based on what our malaysian friends told us, RM6K-10K is ok...pero pag umabot ka ng 8K-10K, expert level ka na nun...

Direct Hire ako kaya employer ko is the one processing my work permit.
They told me that the first stage will be ready within the week. I am currently waiting for those papers which I need to present to the Malaysian Embassy in the Philippines and another to the POEA.
I am totally clueless on this matter hopefully anyone can give me a run-through on how things were done during their times.
I have a confirmed flight booking on the 28th of May Via Singapore (Kasi I will be working in Johor Bahru kaya mas malapit via Sing ako). My employer purchased the tickets on my behalf and just emailed the e-ticket.
Now, what are the things I need to do for the POEA? What are the fees I need to pay and how much?

rhapza, depende din yan sa buong package.
may kilala ako dito 6500RM ang basic nya pero 2yrs ang contract, nightshift sya, sobrang magulo ang systema ng company nya and slavedriver pa. so she ended up going back to manila din. so i strongly suggest you do background check and further research on the company you will be working for.
my advice is, you should be keen sa basic salary mo dito. sabi nila 4500 pataas daw dapat yung basic mo. may kilala ako sa phil embassy, sabi nya for IT professionals, basic rate should be 5k pataas. so in your case, pwede na rin. you can always negotiate your salary w/ the company kung hindi ka pa nakakapirma ng contrata.

hello i just got back here in KL
hey rhyle kayo muna gumimik coz im currently concentrating on finding myself a job here so i need to cut down my expenses
yup singapore cost of living is expensive **** mas mataas sahod don ...like what moon said if the taxi flag down rate is 2.5 sing dollars convert it to ringgit it be like 5.5 rm thats like 66pesos
pero sa malaysia 2rm ang starting ng taxi that will be around 24 pesos right? btw my conversions are just rough estimates
hey if the basic for an IT grad is 5k pataas magkano po for a fresh grad engineer? anyone knows? thanks
