diarhea while 3-4 mos pregrant

help doctors!

a friend has been confined to a hospital due to diarhea and she's 3-4 mos pregnant. she's not taking any medicines, she's on IV fluid. it's been 2 days now but her condition is still the same. can you tell me what else can be done?

Calm down. The hospital staff seems to be doing the right thing. In diarrhea, the important thing is NOT to stop the loose bowel movement but to prevent the dehydration that would follow with too much watery stools. The IV fluids is there is replace whatever lost fluids and electrolytes she has. Once the infection passes, she'll be better. Not all diarrhea cases need antibiotics, and since she's pregnant, doctors would be more wary of prescribing meds unless really warranted.

She's done the right thing by having herself confined. Not only will she get the right management, the staff can also monitor her pregnancy in the face of the infection.
