Aside from being articulate in the English language (or another foreign language as the case maybe) and have "a night life", what else should I know about working in call centers?
What things should I expect when I am working in a call center?
Let's make this thread an educational one.

well....if you will be be assigned in a campaign wherein it's outbound and calling business offices in the US, "night life will not be a problem". But one thing for sure, complacency is not in their vocabulary so better think twice. You must perform consistently otherwise you will say goodbye to your batchmates.....

Think of outbound as doing sales, literally.
If you don't churn out the numbers, they won't hesistate to cut their ties to you.
If you plan to work in a call center, here's some of the things you should expect:
- the workforce is rather young so expect a lack of professionalism in some aspects
- your schedule may shift/change depending on how management plans to manage the daily workload
- punctuality is a must. Every minute counts in a call center. This includes lunches/breaks
hope this helps

*snort* that's the understatement of the decade.
expect working for a call center to be very stressfull-- specially if you're in the graveyard shift. the type of account you'd be handling also adds to the stress-- sales would most always have most of the preassure, followed by customer service then tech support.
working for call centers can be very competitive, so yeah no slacking around (or at least that's what they try to implement, and not always to everyone. so if you see one guy slacking around getting a promotion and another hardworking fellow getting the boot, dont wonder why. this happens A LOT!)
my best piece of advice to anyone wanting to try it out: give the call center life about a year, or as far as you can hang onto the job, see if the changes it will do to your life is something you can live with for a prolonged period of time. if your job ends up running your life, or you're making way too much sacrifices than you're willing to let on, you know its not for you. as a rule, your work should NOT define you, YOU should define your work.
i should know, i learned it the hard way.

Working in a call center isn't as easy as it seems. It can be physically, mentally and emotionally taxing so better be prepared.
