In what ways does he manifest his insecurity?

ok...took time for me to answer.
You can definitely see from his aura that he is insecure. he always boasts that he is this...and that...and that he always reminds everyone he is the boss...and always wants to be patted in the back.
Im not the person who likes to ***-kiss bosses, not that i hate them..its just that its not my nature.

How to deal with an insecure boss? You don't. You do your job. You watch your back. You keep a record (complete with date and time) of relevant goings-on in the office. An insecure boss will always find someone to blame for mistakes, including his own. Cover your behind with a detailed written record.

There are only two things you can do:
- Option one: Learn to live with your boss
- Option two: Quit
If you choose the former, tennisace's words are words to live by. One thing I used to do during my department's goal setting activities, when I had a loser as a boss, was that for every objective I had to meet, I would stipulate what my boss had to do. That way, my boss would be deterred from messing around with my ratings just to satisfy his ego, because I made it clear my performance was also linked to how well he did his job.
If you choose the latter, you'll be in a better position to go to another department or company if your performance record is good. So don't give your loser boss to damage your reputation.

and whats worse is he likes to talk behind my back! he even gossips with lower staffs to earn him some kind of weird credit...
aside from talking behind my back...mahilig din siya maglaglag ng tao. Just to save his poor ***

Actuallu what really triggered this is that we're not on good terms right now. We're just being civil with each other kasi no matter what I do..he is still the boss and i cant argue with that.
The thing is...(going back to the trigger part) I was holding three simultaneous marketing projects when we didnt have any marketing manager. All concepts were made by the team, and were on to our post production stage of the project when he decided to butt in (kasi he wants to be the star of the show). Since its his nature to make up stories...he concocted one and really tried to find loop holes to the projects. He coerced upper management to not approve the concept (even if the management havent really heard from us yet) thus he is the manager...he was given the upper hand. so there goes...suddenly he took all my responsibilities and have it to someone else. he even took from me an account that the Deputy General Manager gave to me.
This was all fine to me because i just tell it to myself that its normal...things like these happen and will happen anytime and i have no control over it.
what pissed me off is that the advertising/design agency whom i was dealing with talked to me about the project and was wondering what happened. Why all of a sudden all of our hardwork was treated as nothing --- and the manager was bad mouthing me in front of them telling them lies. he was insinuating that I was the wrong person to talk to the whole time (but the fact i have an Official Office Order to handle it)
This was not the first time he talked behind my back...and hindi naman sa nag yayabang ako but a lot of people have been very open in saying that i deserve a promotion because of my contributions and i can very well handle the department.
GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Now he's accusing me of putting the papers on hold! when he's the one doing it

quit. but before you do so kick him in the sack. :glee:
i know someone who was in your situation. what he did was he complained to someone higher, but there was too much bad blood between him and his manager so he ended up just getting another position in the same company.

if i quit...then that makes me the loser. I have been thinking about quitting because of some other reasons (financial, career move).
he is such a great boss...its february and we still dont have a marketing plan for 2005, and yet we have a target number of clients in mind. isnt this great?

TideNo1 presents an interesting point. Does your boss have a boss?
I once had a loser boss [who used to like to say (in so many words) ako nga taga-La Salle, di ma promote, kayo pa kaya? (no offense to La Sallites on the forum)]. One time, I initiated a program to automate operations in our department. I worked at it for six months; gave regular updates regarding my progress . . . and my boss just sat on my work, and never officially acknowledged my efforts. Happily our Senior Vice President got wind of what was happening. So the small-minded maggot finally took notice and made the project an official department initiative. That bypass opened a lot of doors for me.
You don't really have to raise the issue to the higher ups yourself, you can course it through other people. Loser-bosses like that hate to be bypassed, so do so carefully -- only when its well worth the scolding.
