@juicylicious, start sila ng processing ng applicants for programmer trainee this january according to HR. continuous yun hanggang start ng training which is around april or may. tinatapat ata nila usually sa mga papagraduate. for pro-hires, ibang kaso yun.

with regards to your other question, maganda ang training ng recent batch, although the company decided to outsource yung training kasi siguro busy yung karamihan ng employees nila kaya wala talagang time magturo. syempre ang downside is magkaiba ang systems/technologies na ginamit nung nasa training at yung mismong system na ginagamit ng company. kaya may extra training pa at orientation para mafamiliarize the trainees with the system. tapos sabak agad ^_^

benefits, ok naman. syempre may health card, although hindi pa naman ako talaga nagkakasakit nang malubha kaya di ko pa sya nagagamit talaga ^_^ (knocks on wood).

you could send your resume to HR. pinoprocess naman nila yun eh. antayin mo na lang yung tawag nila for exams, etc.

The re-org is almost complete. Its not a re-org per se meaning people will be moved to a new position or a new task but its more of re-aligning the company to a better position in handling tasks and responsibilities. Resources will generally be doing the same thing, if you're from support you will still be doing support, if you are a developer, you will still be coding but the difference is the structure by which you are reporting and the channel by how the work gets to you will be changed. The new structure aims to be more efficient and more sensitive to what the employees are aspiring for, be it the technical track or management.

Sad to say, training for the new batch of apprentice wont start until may or june. This is due to some schools conducting their graduation as late as april or may.

I dont think you are entitled to VL or SL. Depends on your agency. Other contractors I've worked with before have their own arrangement with their agency re: VL and SL. Same thing with HMO. It has to come from your agency. Good news is, a lot of contractor employees have been absorbed due to good performance. So chances are, if you give your best on what you do, who knows? You might be one of the lucky ones who got abosrbed. Once they absorb you, you are entitled to benifits like VL, SL, and HMO

@immortalscythe, you could read the past pages in this thread of safeway. maraming nagbigay ng tips about the exams. although i don't know kung binabago nila yung exams. what to expect? well there's a time limit, so you have to answer as fast as you can. with regards sa interview, hindi ko alam kung gano kabilis/katagal bago ka nila tawagan. kasi nung time ko, parang the same day ata nung exam tinawagan na ako for initial interview... something like that. pero kasi malapit na magstart yung training nun. eh ngayon kasi medyo maaga pa so who knows.

ganito po ***, nagapply po ako via jobstreet then tinawagan ako. usually, they would require you to bring a copy of resume and TOR. Exam is a bit difficult esp the math but everything is in multiple choice type.

If you passed the assessment, you shoud receive a call for the your interview. But if you fail, expect an email containing the regret. In my case, i just received an email that i didnt meet the score. :depressed:

Talaga? Ang taas na pala ng starting salary for apprentice. Congrats sa mga nakapasok. You'll learn a lot especially na merged into Service Delivery Groups na yung Dev and Support. Mabilis lang yung bond na 2 years and it serves as a good foundation for an IT career. Magkakatalo na lang kung san na Service Delivery Group ka mapupunta.

Last kong balita na April magsisimula yung bagong batch. Mukhang ongoing pa rin yung recruitment coz mga boss ko panay yung interview sa mga applicants. Lahat naman may chance. There's nothing to lose if you applied. To be honest, yes, the school helps, but it's not the sole basis for selection.

As far as I could remember, the exam lasts for 2-3 hours. You'll be asked to make essays, pseudocode and a flowchart for a process, and answer an exam. Sa exam part, nakalimutan ko na kung ano yung mga topics. Sorry about that.

As far as I know, yes on your 1st question. We have a call center here in the Philippines handling 1st level support. Kelangan mo ata ng TSR experience para sa 1st level support. Our Service Delivery Groups (Retail, Marketing, Accounting, HR, Supply Chain and Business Intelligence/Shared Services?) and Production Services Groups handle 2nd to 3rd level support (kasi merged na ang Support and Development). Meron na din ata mga BPO-type na positions open. It won't hurt if you send your resume to our HR or pwede rin sa akin para may referral fee ako. Hehe. Safeway Philtech only services our mother company in the US and Canada, which is Safeway Inc. It's like yung ginawa ng Dell which was to make a local subsidiary of their company here in the Philippines.

guys i have an interview tomorrow sa safeway, not sure kung interview nga or may exam since sabi kasi ni ms. cherry na interview, im workin as Data Center Specialist sa isang airline company, dati din akong helpdesk pero not fluent sa english language, hehe... nakita ko sa website nila may opening na System Administrator with knowledge in AIX, eh yung ngayon yung work kasi kaya possible na dun nila ako consider, ask ko lang, maganda ba benefits at may idea ba kayo kung magkano basic? hehe... much better na mag research kasi ako, though not sure naman kung papasa ako, pero at least kung mas maganda benefits at basic nila kesa sa present ko, at kunin nila ako, of course lilipat ako. thanks sa mga magre-reply. :lol:

We have a call center handling 1st level support and 2nd level support being handled by the Service Delivery Groups (Development and Support) and Production Support. Unfortunately, may night shift ang programmers. From may experience, ok maging programmer trainee. It's a good starting point if you're a fresh grad or you decided to shift a career in IT. May bond nga lang ng two years pero mabilis lang yun. Compensation of a programmer trainee in Safeway is I think one of the best among IT companies here in the Philippines.

Not necessarily. Better call our HR to confirm the status of your application. I remember that I constantly followed up on my application, got scheduled for a series of interviews then landed the job eventually. I guess a frequent follow up would tell our HR that you really want to be a part of our company. Good luck.

Yep. Safeway accepts fresh grads as apprentices. Doesn't really matter kung anong programming language yung background mo since apprentices are extensively trained for 2 months. As long as you have an aptitude for programming and analysis work, ayos na yun. Depende na lang kung assigned ka sa Mainframe (Cobol) or Midrange (java,web-based programming languages, etc). The 8 Indians were then replaced by 8 Filipinos. In just a few months, they have already been exceeding their targets.

QA rin ng Safeway POS systems, exclusively sa Manila na.

As for Self-Checkout, Safeway Manila is currently supporting it. We do have a Self-Check Out machine here in Manila. The project team's developer has gone back to school, so now, their 'go to guy' or should I say 'go to girl' is a Filipina.

Things have really become more exciting lately. :)

Yun HR/TMG, as always tinatakot ang mga apprentices, dami raw ginagawa at marami rin tickets, kaya ayaw mag Retail hahaha. But news from one of my managers, yun tinanong raw isa isa ang mga apprentices, karamihan gustong mag SDG-Retail.

Because of the realignment, depending on their performance and the track that the apprentices would like to pursue, as early as 3 months raw, pwede nang mag-pure dev ang apprentice in Retail. PosDev, Non-Web Dev, Web Dev, Mainframe Dev. Di na katulad dati na nasa 'support' ng 2 years or more.

As for the supervisory track, 'support' naman yun magandang training ground. Sabagay tama si boss, 5 of the 7 teamleads that Retail has right now were once apprentices. Yun 2 dun as early as 6 mos in Safeway were 'acting' teamleads, then yun 1 year na sila, officially teamleads na.

Ako pinagiisipan ko pa yun mga options na binigay sa akin ng boss ko hehehe...very tempting...sana isa sa mga option eh yun pwedeng mag-transfer sa SDG-Retail bwahahaha.

Mababait naman ng mga tao sa sdg-retail. Wala pa naman akong naririnig na apprentice na napapagutusan, baliktad nga eh, apprentices ata ang naguutos sa amin hahaha - kaya siguro 5 of the 7 programmer analyst leads that we have were apprentices, and some of them are close to becoming Safeway Manila managers. They really deserve it naman.

Last thursday, we invited our midrange apprentices to our monthly group meeting, siyempre may cake for the apprentices and free breakfast for everyone. Lagi atang may free food sa SDG na ito. Or maybe kasi ang daming bagong members...kaya sunod-sunod ang treat. Kaya yun latest batch of apprentices, BE READY :rotflmao:

We have a feeling that this batch of apprentices that we have would really do great.

May mainframe na rin sa retail, we have 3 resources na mainframe sa dev namin. We also have a resource who'd be working together with SDG-Marketing for a couple of months.

I am sure good opportunity para sa apprentice iyan since bago lang ang mainframe in Retail.

Medyo malayo nga yun McKinley, pero since bago yun office, maganda siya. Makisabay ka na lang sa mga taga-Retail since nagsibilihan lahat ng mga kotse. Hinihintay ko nga matapos yun recreation room, may foosball, massage chairs and Nintendo Wii. So far, everything looks great. Ok yun workstations at yun mga chairs. The pantry is big, though half pa lang ang available, may dalawang couch pa sa pantry, pwedeng matulog hahaha. Free iced tea nga pala.

Sa Dec pa matatapos yun mall sa tapat ng office. Pwedeng manood ng sine kahit may sev1, 4 hours naman para maresolve :rotflmao:

As for Retail, magkakasama lahat sa isang area, mukhang lokohan lagi ito hehehe, maiinis ang mga RQA na workaholic.

Isa lang yun floor na ima-maintain diyan. Yun 21st, and magsisiksikan kayo for a couple of months. Wala pang mga decent function rooms. Either 6 kayo sa isang cube or mga iba gamit gamit yun mga coffee tables. At least sa McKinley, once na nasa office ka na, ok yun working conditions.

I am sure though na mageenjoy siya since madaming opportunities within the group. Personally, I think SDG-Retail has the most to offer especially if apprentice ka.
