experienced hire ako dito. Sorry I can't tell you iyong range unang una kung entry level programmer hindi ko alam at kung alam ko man hindi ko pa rin masasabi hehehe. Sorry talaga, kung natanggap ka malalaman mo kung baket. All I can say is above industry standards ang bigay dito.

pero great working environment??? hehehe.. saka yung onshore assignment bihira yan, kaya nga nag outsource sila dito eh.. come-on lang yan sa mga bagong pasok, swerte ka talaga pag napadala ka but don't count on it too much..

it's a great company, cool dito sa safeway philtech, good pay, good working environment, cool ang mga tao and professional, magaganda rin ang events (we have a safeway breakfast club here, you'll learn about it when you get hired.) hindi ko alam kung supervisory or manager level eh may opening dito, pero ang masasagot ko lang eh mas malaki iyong narereceive ng staff dito kaysa sa supervisors and managers ng ibang local and multinational companies (except siguro P&G, sobrang malaki talaga ang pasahod dun). try it out here kiber_mo, submit your resume who knows diba? :)

btw, kung particular pala kayo sa position eh sa tingin ko hindi nagwowork dito iyon kasi una flat ang organization. hindi kami nagseser and nag mamam. isa pa we work as a team here. may mga managers/supervisors dito na talagang nagwowork din kung ano iyong work ng ordinary staff siguro iyong mga senior managers/directors lang talaga ang purely administrative work.

Well, it's just sad that you had to work with that manager. But just because you had a bad experience with your manager, it doesn't mean that it's not a good place to work for. I have been here for quite a bit and so far, ok pa naman ako dito. Bad managers are everywhere, hindi naman sila exclusive sa Safeway. Besides, baka 'di lang kayo talaga magkasundo ng manager mo, or baka hindi ka lang comfortable sa style nya.

RE: politics @ SVI, well, I beg to disagree. Maybe it just so happened na malapit ka sa mga "powerful" people while you were in SVI. Ganun naman talaga 'pag anak ng Diyos e... Akala nila wala problem.... *** mga naa-argabyado lang naman ang nagrereklamo (just to clarify, I have nothing against SVI, nag-enjoy din naman ako sa stay ko dun)...

I don't think you should worry yourself too much about the politics. It happens everywhere, but if you really want an example, try to ask around about people who (I quote) "...pursued other opportunities outside of Safeway." Also, checkout my response to sanchai. It's just something you have to deal with as it hits you. Hindi naman maiiwasan 'yan 'pag malaki *** company...

depende talaga sa team na mapupunta ka. as a whole masasabi ko na hindi ka nila ilalaglag ng wala kang alam. you work there as a team. doon naman sa one on one iyong training nagawa ko na ito hindi ko lang alam sa ibang teams. it all depends sa team atsaka syempre kung ano ang attitude mo towards work. kung sa may mapapagtanungan or mahihingan ng tulong meorn nun. pero kung isusubo siguro minsan sa una isusubo ng konti pero pag lagi eh maski naman saan wala nun.

Don't worry about being stagnant in Safeway <baka ikaw sumuko... LOL!>. Technically, we are in-house developers/support personnel for a US based retail company. So unlike other vendor-type companies (like SVI, AC, etc.), we don't worry about "losing" clients (i.e. being stagnant).

Hindi naman... Majority of the tools we use are commercial tools... Java, COBOL, VB, DB2, etc... so you should be able to use what you learn even if you plan to jump ship (hehe..) later...

Para sa akin itong sinasabing "highly marketable" sa IT world and not just for Safeway eh nasa diskarte mo iyan kung paano mo rin isesell sarili mo. Kalimitan pag patanda ka na ng patanda hindi na sa isang specific skill ka na kinukuha ng company minsan sa mga soft skills mo doon ka kinukuha and besides isa pang natutunan ko, kahit saang company ka pa mapunta at malipat eh iba iyong gagawin mo. Nasa sa empleyado na iyon kung may ability syang matuto ng bagong matututunan.

Wala sigurong Safeway sa AR, MO, at SC. 7 years ako dun pero wala akong nakitang safeway na grocery..... baka west coast ang bulk ng grocery stores nila..... so para palang Walgreens na nag-outsource sa RCG ang Safeway. Kaya pala madami akong kasabay sa 22/F na panggabi sa Safeway dahil parehas US-based client namin, hehehehe.....kung sa bagay, mahal mainframe progs sa US lalo't experienced. Maganda talaga mag-work sa US-owned companies..... family-oriented kasi at basta OK output mo, wala kang magiging problema. Bihira politics sa mga Kano pero since nasa Pinas tayo, hindi na rin ako magtataka.... grabe talaga ang politika dito sa Pinas..... ang isang issue ko lang nung nasa US ako ay dahil may mga subordinates akong puti na hindi matanggap na kayumanggi ang boss nila pero dito sa Pinas ibang klase.... lahat na lang ng empleyado may kanya-kanyang reklamo, pagalingan sa salita, at palakasan..... haaaaay, pero masaya pa rin ako at isa ako sa mga nabiyayaang makapagtrabaho at mamuhay uli dito sa Pinas.... bibihira kasi kaming nabibigyan ng ganitong pagkakataon :D

technical support naman kasi talaga ang forte ng safeway di ba? nagpaseminar kasi sila sa school namin.. sa UPLB.. clear naman un eh.. magpprogram ka at the same time sasagot ka ng calls..

astig daw training.. pero most of the time nga, ang nangyayari, sagot lang ng calls from stores sa US.. *** programming part, di ko alam kung san nappunta.. siguro kasi, wala masyado problema sa system ng mga stores, gasoline statins, etc. na handle ng safeway..

pero kasi ang yaman ng safeway eh.. *** mga team buildings nila, 1 whole day sa speedzone.. na P600/12 minutes ang rate.. hehe

^ sa Safeway ang napapansin ko, it's either you're wearing a developer's hat or support hat. pag developer, nagdedevelop ka talaga dun. pag support hat, depende sa support team ang hinahawakan mo. pag na-assign ka sa call center malamang puro calls ang gagawin mo, pero pag hindi naman may mga ilan-ilan na sasagot/tatawag ka sa phone for follow-ups, queries etc... just like the usual office environment.

Un call center, that is PTSC.. they take calls/emails from stores or business users and then open up tickets. no programming involved.. Call Ctr. Period. They are not under dev nor support

In dev, most of the people you would interact with are the business users and the other developers in India, they tell you what they want and what you need to do..

In support, the word says it all. Support. Basically if there is a problem in the system (i.e. abends, data errors/inconsistencies etc), you would need to investigate why it happened and then solve it.


Juggalo, your friend must be assigned to a group that interacts mainly with the stores (I can think of two teams) so she really has to talk to the users in the store since grocery nga ang safeway... if she's not happy about it, palipat sya... dun sa me program revisions na ginagawa (I can think of 3-4 teams for this).. but then, even with those teams, kelangan mo ring tumawag sa stores from time to time... or sa mismong corporate users sa US or Canada since sila nagre-report ng problems. How would you know the actual issue if you wouldn't talk to them?
Iba training ng PTSC sa App Support so ndi pedeng trained sya as programming then sa PTSC sya napunta...

Musta na Safeway? :naughty: For those guys who are asking around kung ok dito, well, I can say na maganda talaga dito.good working environment, mababait lahat ng mga tao.walang gaanong pulitika (sa team namin, di ko lang alam sa ibang team). And a very good pay. Ang bad experience ko lang sa Safeway ay *** screw up ng application ko for visa sa US embassy, because someone on a certain department na naglalakad nito failed to address the issue at hand the way it should be addressed.In effect to that screw up, apektado ang other application ko for visa sa ibang countries na alied ng US. :grrr: I should have a multiple entry visa sa Canada, di ako nabigyan dahil sa screw up na un,single entry lang....waaahhh!!! :bop:
All in all, it's a good experience working at safeway. Yup, kelangan din pala mag-night shift sometimes. Depende sa onsite counterpart nyo kung meron talaga kayong kelangang work na gawin na sabay sa oras nila. And pasok din early for meetings. Usually late afternoon nila and early morning natin *** meetings.

as far as i know, they have a lot of work.. they deal mainly with access requests of all the safeway employees (andami kaya nun!); pressure? i dont think so.. workload ata marami..

Marami palang mga taga DLSU sa Philtech. Welcome ulit sa mga newbies!

Hindi lahat ng trabaho dito shifting like iyong mga dev pero sometimes kailangan nilang mag report sa gabi pag may project.. Iyong mga iba perpetual ang nightshift.. iyong iba shifting usually ang mga peeps na nagwewear ng support hat eh shifting iyon. Doon naman sa pagikot ng shift eh depende sa tao iyon. May kakilala ako gusto nila matagalan iyong iba naman every 2 weeks.

as for the number of shifts afaik we have 3 shifts (6am-2pm, 2pm-10pm and 10pm-6pm) nagbabago bago ito based sa requirement ng team mo.. iba nakikita ko pumasok ng 12, iba pumapasok ng 10:30 depende sa team na papasukan mo.

Kala ko kasi un mga night shift pde tumagal ng 4 months. Kasi ganun un datin kong company tumatagal ng 4 months yung night shift before ka magiging day shift.

Minsan umaabot ng tanghali din yung mga night shift. Depende na lang kung madaming tickets.

Competitive naman yung compensation package. Mataas na sya compared to other IT companies. I'm not sure kung pwedeng idivulge yung exact amount.

Anyways, advise ko lang is dont try jobstreet pag apply sa safeway kasi limited un advertised positions nila dun.

punta ka lang sa safeway philtech na website posted somewhere in this thread un website.

go to career section and choose your desired position.

create an email and attach your resume gawa ka narin cover letter dun sa email mo then send it.

i got the call in a week, maybe more than but less than 2 weeks.

Nung nag test kasi kami late na kaya sabi samin lahat contact na lang kami for the results.

Gusto ko sana malaman kung aabutin ng weeks or days lang kasi kung sakali may makuha ako ibang job offer alam ko kung gano katagal expect..

When I took the test, I got a callback after three days lang but the procedure was different then. Mabilis naman ata mag-process dito. Give it two weeks, tops.
