ah ok. btw i saw your recent post on the info thread, thanks for doing so. but it will be hopeless to continue doing so because most of the people doing such things were separated from info (left with hard feelings) or applicants who weren't able to pass the recruitment process (who are sour-graping). what matters is at least someone not from info are somehow saying good things about the company (former employees and even unsuccessful applicants). certainly there are former employees and unsuccessful applicants of yours are saying good things about your company as well *okay*

hi chinita81, i'm an alabang recruiter (for APAC Customer Services, Inc). there's an hr south network job fair this coming aug 11-13 at the festival mall. but from the e-mail trails that i'm reading, they only cater to companies in the south. so, for those interested to work in alabang, LP, pque, laguna, cavite, and batangas, this is the job fair that you should attend.

there's another job expo also at festival mall on oct 15-16. im pretty sure that half of the exhibitors will come from the call center industry.

let me try computing this for you. let's peg it at 16K basic salary, so that's 8k per payday (night diff, OT, and other taxable allowances not included). let's assume as well that your tax exemption status is Single.

Looking at the BIR tax table, your tax is 937.50 for a salary of 6,667.00. In excess of the 6,667.00, you have to tax the remaining at 25% (8,000-6667=1333.00). 25% of 1333 is 333.25. You add that to the 937.50. Your total tax per payday is 1270.75. It could be more or less than that depending on other factors (see my text in bold). The higher the income, the higher we also go into the BIR tax table.

whew!

oh! and don't forget pala the other deductions like sss, pag-ibig, and medicare. employees who earn more than 15k per month pay remit 500.00 to SSS. pag-ibig is normally at 100.00. medicare is normally at 250.00.

otakusenshi, that's a public document. i'm trying to search though for an online copy of the tax table. i found one before pero di sya updated.

the computation of tax and sss is part of our company orientation so that employees can compute their salaries in their own time. para pag may duda sila, kukunin lang nila ang calculator at voila!, alam nila agad ang kasagutan. ok ba? ;)

i used to work for Sykes - i was there for 4 years. now, i'm what is called a Performance Consultant - the projects and contracts i'm into has given me the opportunity work with mid-tier call center firms (thanks to friends mostly) that need specialized organizational assistance, like Six Sigma project deployment, COPC baseline compliance, Performance Dashboards, etc. i'm grateful to Sykes for sponsoring my certification trainings. It has given this consulting work some sort of credibility (at least on paper).

to legal_recruiter, I was connected with Ambergris for a few months but left to pursue a consulting career. I had a nice time in Ambergris. It's different from Sykes in a lot of ways (no use comparing really) but there's something about the company that is endearing (and funny at the same time.)

I hope you guys (recruitment and HR people) could help me out. This could turn out to be quite lengthy so I'm thanking you in advance for bearing with me...

I spent the first six (6) years of my working life in the insurance industry. I started from an assistant position, then worked my way up to an analyst post, and eventually to an Operations Manager position of a life insurance company. I then moved to the other side of the fence and took an AVP for New Business / Account Manager position in an Insurance Brokerage Firm

Realizing that the BPO industry will be here to stay, I spent the last year of my stay in the insurance industry trying to land a mid-level management post in the well-known Call Centers at that time. I only got interview appointments, but never a job offer. I suspected that this was because I didn't have any call center experience.

I then decided to start at the bottom (taking a 70% cut in basic pay and none of the benefits I used to enjoy) and try to work my way up. I'm currently a special case manager (handling outbound escalated cust care cases), after doing front-line cust care for 6 months. I gave myself a year to move up to at least a Team Leader post, or I'll just look for another line of work. I have barely two months left on my self-imposed deadline.

I've been applying for various positions in the call center / BPO industry (Data Analyst, TL, Sales Supervisor, Account Manager, etc), but I've had no luck. Considering the experience that I have, I thought I would at least get several job interview invites. I've only received one.

Here's a list of my "relevant" experience:
- Operations Management (Customer Service, Risk Evaluation, Claims Approval & Denial, Reinsurance Administration & Reporting, Collection, Reporting to the Management Committee, Team management and Individual Staff Performance Evaluation)
- Account Management (Acquisition and Maintenance)
- Sales Support (Comparative Analysis of Products, Proposal Preparation and Presentation)
- Research and Data Analysis
- etc...

I really enjoy working in a call center, but I might have to re-think my career plans. I would appreciate any suggestions / comments.
Thanks!

Therese is a pretty nice girl. But no, i've never had experience in Recruitment. Plus Cris Rosenthal will probably laugh at the thought. Ask around the people in Discovery, specifically the 24th floor people - i used to occupy a really cold room. (By the way, that room needs to be feng shui'd or prayed over with incense or chanted over something - a lot of managers who have occuppied that room have left. ) Mirelle Reyes-Romualdez was my direct boss.

When i was there i was just working background, a lot of people dont know me i guess. The only people in recruitment who would know me would be the ones who have already resigned like CQ, Therese. If Guy is still there, she probably remembers me hanging out with Anna Guitarte sometimes. Or Jem too. My thing with Amber was so short-lived.

hi oli...

i'm not an HR or recruitment person... however i do empathize with your situation, as i have gone through (and am continuing to go through) a very similar situation.

it is quite unfortunate that recruitment associates in this industry have remained quite closed-minded when hiring external talents, particularly for supervisory & managerial positions within their contact centers. most RA's focus blindly on previous experiences, specifically within the call center industry, without giving much credence to previous supervisory and/or managerial experiences in other fields or in other companies. in fact, if they browse through your resume and see that you have very limited call center experience, and virtually no call center supervisory or managerial experience, they won't even bother contacting you for an interview.

in fact, i would boldly put forth that you can probably count with the fingers of both your hands the number of external supervisory and managerial talent that major contact centers have hired coming from other industries aside from within the contact center industry.

i myself have had 14 years of solid managerial experience, but this counts for naught when i first applied for a supervisory or managerial position in various call centers. i, too, had to start from an entry-level position just to gain a foothold in the industry, taking a similar pay cut just to see what it was like to be a part of the so-called "sunshine industry". i am thankful that, after just 6 months of experience with my 1st call center, 2 companies took the chance of interviewing me for a supervisory position. modesty aside, i passed the final interviews of both companies, and i eventually signed up with one of them.

it's a sad fact that a lot of talents slip through the sieve of most Recruitment Associates simply because of their narrow-minded approach to screening applicants for supervisory and managerial posts.

considering that the industry is alreay in its adolescence, this is quite disturbing. horror stories abound where immature talents within the industry without leadership abilities and people-handling skills are being promoted to supervisory and managerial posts, and end up mishandling their accounts and their people.

in order for the industry to truly grow and partly curb the high attrition rates, perhaps its time for recruitment practitioners to become pro-active with their hiring policies for supervisory and managerial posts and look beyond their noses at the large talent pool out there waiting to be tapped.

good luck oli...

hi, i'm currently working as a recruiter for one of the call centers in makati focusing on non-csr applications (which includes technical/managerial positions for the different departments that we have).

for us (i don't know for other companies), this are the things that we look for in a team manager/leader applicant:

- 1 year supervisory/managerial experience not necessarily in a call center but also in a customer service oriented industry (hotels, airlines, restaurants) wherein they already handled 25-30 employees (direct supervision);

- demonstrated extensive and regular coaching and mentoring and have conducted performance appraisals

- excellent english communication skills

so far, i got 3 team managers who didn't come from a call center. 1 was an hr manager, the other 1 was a store manager, and the other 1 was a fastfood branch manager. all of them didn't have any call center experience.

for the assistant call center manager/operations manager post, these are the things we are looking for in an applicant:

- 5 years managerial/supervisory experience not necessarily in a call center but also in a customer service related industry wherein they already handled 100-200 employees (with around 7 - 10 managers directly supervised).

***and the 2nd and 3rd TM qualifications above

so far, we only got 2 accms. 1 came from the telecoms industry, the other came from a call center. the 1 who came from the telecoms industry didn't have any call center experience.

so based on our experience, it doesn't necessarily mean that recruiters "always" want someone for a managerial/supervisory post to come from a call center. we also want to make sure that their previous employment experiences are similar to the position that we are offering. it's just a reality that "most" of the applicants that we have who already worked in a call center as a tm or accm have a similar set-up wherein their experience can be applied in our company.

hi... i just want to give my thoughts on the inquiries of oli as you have had yours already...

i dont think HR should take entirely the blame for these kinds of situations. I mean, as per my experience working for a headhunting firm (catering to all sorts of industries - but our focus is more on call centers) and now recruiting for call center posts, we are given specs to follow whenever we hire someone. now the people that we hire should be in accordance to the preference of the hiring managers. this does not take effect only in managerial post but even to all positions may it be agents to tm's/tc's to aom's/om's... so whatever will be the demands of the hiring managers. We are given no other choice but to follow such requests/demands...

i am sure you know that being a leader does not only require you to have leadership skills but you must also know the way the industry really works. and in this type of industry, all employees are required to adjust to company standards in a snap. maybe for other call centers, they would want their managers to be more familiar with the do's and dont's of the cc industry, given that they have call center experience. but this doesnt mean we dont hire people for a manager post just because they do not have cc experience. well, the post they are applying for should also depend on their field of expertise. like if you are from the banking industry then why not try applying for a call center that has financial accounts... or if you are a sales person then apply for a call center that focuses on sales accounts.

i agree with intellectual as far as JobsDB is concerned. They are very professional, and very thorough with their work. They take care of their qualified applicants, and are conscientious in doing the follow ups for you. It's too bad i wasn't handled by them, because another agency lay claim to me. However, even though they had to honor the "gentlemen's agreement" between competing agencies, they still assisted me knowing full well that they won't receive a cent from their assistance. very considerate people and very professional officers.

i agree with you legal recruiter that Recuitment Associates or Agencies are not to blame for the selection criteria that they are following. However, they should be able to perhaps suggest to the hiring managers to at least allow other potential candidates who may not have a solid call center background to be considered for an interview.

I hope these hiring managers also become enlightened about this matter, and open their eyes to the talents who are right at the tip of their noses.

but then again... if a call center is outsourced then there are some things that we have no controll over... like for example if the clients request for their new hires to have cc experience then hiring managers will have to follow the request as well... but you have a point... point well taken... let us just hope and cross our fingers that this kind of mentality will then be thwarted in the long run... ;) *okay*

in recruitment, there is more than what meets the eye. i understand where the recruiters are coming from. some applicants are just too darn confident of themselves and start blaming the system or the recruiters if they don't get considered for a position (whether entry-level, supervisory or managerial). maybe they have not heard of the terms job specification and skills calibration. well, to each his own.

I'm currently working with PS. I wanted to be an HR Assistant (Recruitment) I had undergone 42 hours of volunteer work with the HR Department of People Support. I applied twice as HR Assistant but unfortunately i wasn't able to get the position.

What does it really takes to be an HR Assistant?

I'm just getting frustrated because i really wanted to be a part of that department... I'm currently waiting for the position to be open again... I'll never stop applying until I become a part of the HR team...

Guys... can you give me tips in order for me to achieve this goal... I only have 2 ultimate goals in PS... to be an HR assistant or QA analyst...

i know this might be off the topic pero i just wanted to ask assistance from you guys...

coz we had an internal hiring lately in our company (call center) and i applied for the position of Recruitment Specialist. I passed the initial interview that was conducted last week by one of the Recruitment POCs and I am now scheduled for Final Interview.. Not too sure what would be the questions that will be thrown to me and from what i understood the person who will be conducting the said interview would be the Recruitment Manager. Takot me....

I really dont have any Recruitment Experience in Call Center per se but i had one after graduation that only lasted for about 5 months. Then last July I was able to join the Internship Program that was conducted by the HR people here in our company but that last for only like roughly 3 weeks and I dont think that would really be enough for me to be selected and hired.

Now to make this short, I just wanted to know what are the situational questions that can be thrown to me or the usual questions kumbaga na pwedeng ibigay sakin for this position.. ?? Maybe you can give me some sort of idea what are the questions that was given to you before...

Hope someone can help...
thanks in advance.. :D

hi r_69_e,
since your previously from amber, i just have a question about the non-compete clause. i resigned from amber last april of this year. I tried my luck to work overseas but I got impatient, i've been waiting for months now and i'm still here. So i decided to go back to work in the call center industry, but i remember that i need to wait for one year before i can work with other call centers. is there a chance that amber can give a waiver for the non-compete clause so i can apply to a different company?

r_69_e
Nov 23, 2006, 07:27 PM
/\ no chance. :D what you can do is just apply to a company that doesn't require you to have a waiver from amber. Stay away from centers like cvg, peoplesupport etc.

You can apply to our company if you want. :D There's a possibility that you can be sent overseas for knowledge transfer. *okay*

I think it's unfair that Amber does not give waiver but they accept people from other call centers with non-compete clause.
