A Thomasian Dogma: For Smiley and his/her fellow La Sallians

Yes, Im a Thomasian. By being a Thomasian, one becomes a micro-UST, bearing its name all along, falling into its history and sharing its glory, involved beyond repair in its mission-vission. And so whatever praises heaped on her redounds to us all; whatever insult or ridicule cast upon her, degrades us all.

Im sorry, what you said appeared to be a product of an immature, low-grade thinking (a laughable pretense).

Your attempt to pull down the UST from the cluster of best schools is downright unforgivable much less unthinkable.

In my four years of education in the UST, I have seen so many events that happened in the hallowed corners of this Dominican school, events that perhaps no other schools in the country have ever experienced.

I have seen how outstanding Thomasians reap honor and glory in the field of academics, business, politics and other areas of life. I have seen the Pope, the King of Spain and other heads of state coming to visit us to pay homage to the noble achievements of my alma mater. I have seen how the CHED the PRC and some foreign embassies rank us favorably among catholic schools in the country. All these make a true-blue Thomasian react to a certain stimulus!

The UST does not merely rest on its past glories; we continue to make history!

Do I have to mention again that UST was ranked by the PRC recently as the top performing school in board exams for the past five consecutive years? The number of centers of excellence and centers for development the UST have which outdid La Salle and Ateneo? The Thomasian Debaters Council beating debaters from Harvard and Oxford in this year's Worlds Debating Tournament and ended up as champion for the English language category? - WHAT DO YOU CALL ALL THESE AND ALL OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES UST SHOWED RECENTLY? And what about those young and old Thomasians who are now in the cluster of DLSU's teaching staff? WHAT?????

I have tried to explain as lucid as possible in the other topic that Thomasians behaviour in the recent UAAP basketball games should not be the gauge of a good quality education.

Smiley's hypothesis is apparently very very weak!

Oh, what about La Salle's conduct during the 1995-1996 UAAP Basketball finals which drew a chain of censure from columnists of leading national dailies? Remember calling us "squatters", your infamous chant/banner, "tuition n'yo baoon ko lang" which we gamely retorted "tuition namin singliit ng utak n'yo!"

Smiley's desecration of the UST Main Building and the Arch of the Centuries is indeed blasphemous! Why resorting to this kind? A wild incautious directionless mind is always chaotic, suspect!

The UST has an image to carry and carry on. The stamp is there, unmistakable, subject now and then to censure but unassailably unmistakably there -it will always be there, a stamp, a uniqueness, a tradition this university has gladly taken upon herself!

Finally, I would gladly borrow this quote from a member of this forum:

"LA SALLE ALWAYS HAVE TO DEFEND THEIR SCHOOL'S REPUTATION; WORSE, THEY ALWAYS HAVE A NEED TO MAKE EVERYONE REALIZE HOW GOOD THEIR SCHOOL IS - MUST BE A SIGN OF INSECURITY...WHY IS THAT?"

(Err...as in the case of the ECE faculty in La Salle...less than 15 yrs pa lang inoofer ng la salle yung ECE compared to UST at Mapua na lampas 20 Years na..siyempre saan pa kami kukuha ng instructors kundi sa mga products ng school na established na yung particular course...It is not by choice but by neccesity :) magisip ka nga idol diyuskopo....alangan na kumuha kami ng mga fresh ECE graduates para magturo e di hindi na nagimprove..but once na established na yung course ay minimal na ang pagkuha ng La Salle ng instructors from other schools dahil capable na magturo yung mga graduates)

I was there...I believe yung mga obnoxious na banner started from the UST side...the chant was in retaliation of the chants of UST like BOBO BOBO kayo..etc. :) . Pabayaan mo na sila sa mga delusions nila...magaling ang UST pero I wouldn't go as far as saying na it is the best in this area and that.....Heck aaminin ko na bulok ang La Salle sa English, Filipino, Math Sciences, ARTS,lahat na BULOK kami.....lasallians dont just throw mineral water bottles during UAAP games we go a step further by throwing beer bottles...

I never in my whole pinoyex exixtence has said that UST ay bulok or talo UST sa ganito or that because I know that knowledge of these things are limited so I cannot make judgements on them(di tulad ng ibang journalists diyan alam lahat lahat ng topics from A-Z).

I only react when someone is being insulted or lambasted. I only insult people who insults others...as they say there must always be checks and balances...di naman pwede taga UST lang ang pwede manginsulto di ba??

I beleive Thomasians should be proud of their school for what it has achieved so far. I do not condone what smiley is doing but find it humorous and entertaining.

I do not pretend to be a KNOW IT ALLS like sinned and dominicus..what you see is what you get di ako plastic at more importantly di ako HYPOCRITE tulad ng mga pumupuna sa amin :) .

It was a good analysis, dominicus. But I would like to comment on a few things.

I respect the University of Santo Tomas and all its achievments. I realize its place in history, its great landmarks and wonderful alumni. But we all partake of the same history. We are of the same pot, after all.

Also, we can't all go to just one university, now can we? People choose to go to a school for one reason or another. Please don't brand me along with your generalization, because I'm just a normal student working hard to earn my degree. Aren't you? Oh, I happen to be from La Salle. Is that such a big problem?

I have never pulled down UST. I firmly believe that there is no best university, and the branding of Thomasian or Lasallian refers to where you study, not who you are. And yet you say that Lasallian are like this or like that. I'm sorry, but I can't agree.
