Hi all,

I've recently noticed that there seems to be a subtle misalingment with my jaw, i.e. the right side seems to be a bit lower than the left. This results in a small deviation in the shape of each facial cheek. It is not noticeable and isneither a visual problem. I am concerned with any possible long-term effect it might have in terms of jaw usage itself.

What kind of doctor should I see for a check-up? Referrals would be welcome as well.

Thanks.

seek a physiatrist... they are medical doctors specializing in physical medicine..

--u can try Dr. Reynaldo Matias of East Avenue.. i believe he's also in St. Luke's
-- or Dr. tan-sales of san juan de dios :)

Maybe you could try asking a dentist first to take a look and he/she can further refer you to a more exact specialty (surgery, orthodontics, TMJ specialist, etc)

I apologize for the late reply, busy busy busy... (who isn't anyway?)

zetia: Thanks for the heads-up info.

misa hayase: I've actually asked my dentist about it several times and his explanation, to paraphrase, is because that side is probably the one I use the most (for chewing, etc.).

Far be it for me to disagree with my dentist (who is a trained professional), but I think there is more to it than imbalanced muscular development. This is why I will go and get a second opinion on this matter to confirm his assessment.

BTW, is that your real name? "misa hayase" is the japanese counterpart to the name "lisa hayes", the name of a character from a classic japanese series/export. Or maybe its just coincidence.

Yes, a second opinion is very much recommended.

No, not my real name. And yes, it's the japanese name of Lisa Hayes from Macross. :) 5 points and one bonus round :)
