I just can't get over my curiosity, wala naman tayong pet forum so dito na lang.
We've had dogs who conceive atleast once a year. And I can't help but wonder when this will come to an end. Do female dogs stop getting pregnant only if they're dead already?

I'm afraid I can't answer that. I know nothing about the reproductive cycle of the canine kingdom. Anyone here in Veterinary Medicine?

krayola: seriously, though, you don't have to wait for the dog's ovaries to quit working. just get her fixed. i know it's more money than most people would care to spend on dogs in manila, but i think that's better than having litter after litter of unwanted puppies every year.

Speaking of getting pets fixed, I was watching this Talk Show (Points of view) once then they had these so called Animal Rights People and Pet Lovers. Anyway they were lamenting the bad treatment pets get here, etc, etc. Then someone mentioned how do they keep their pets from multiplying... Surprisingly they were all for getting their pets FIXED (in fact all of them had their pets fixed already)!!! They said that it's HEALTHY pa nga daw sa pets. How the heck can you be an Animal Rights Advocate when you condone "neutering". Healthy my ***, eh kung ikaw kaya i neuter you'd think that was healthy for you ???

BTW, I hate pets hehehe The longest pet I had was a turtle who got decapitated by a crab sa aquarium... Tip: for those wanting to have pets but are too lazy. The turtle is probably the lowest maintenance pet around... You could forget to feed him for 2 months and he'd still live...

kids, pets that get fixed do gain lots of weight, so watch that food dish.

I have finally found the answer, after 2 days of obsessing about this!! *jumps for joy*.

According to 2 veterinarians, dogs do not undergo any form of menopause. In fact, there have been cases of dogs in heat resulting in pregnancies at 15 years of age. That's over a century old in dog years. Way to go, libido!

I suggest you hurry down to the nearest duly licensed veterinarian to have Spotty neutered if you want to avoid having a doggie zoo. :)

Oh yeah...just in case I get questioned: My sources are Dr. Enrique Carlos, D.V.M., who trained in UP and had his masters in Veterinary Medicine in Cornell University; he owns Makati Dog and Cat Hospital in Bel-Air 3. Plus Dr. Agustin, his assistant who trained in UPLB.
