View Full Version : BEST *Paid* VOIP for Official International Business Calls
NoisyCricket

To the business gurus out there,
We at Children's Hour would also need from time to time make official overseas calls, but obviously we would like to avail of the best, most affordable service.
We could use the Skype service for free, but that would mean that the person we are talking to would also need to be on Skype.
We are looking into other options, even if we have to pay for them.
A colleague of ours was referring http://www.zipglobal.com.*They have 2 types of plans:* a plan where you pay a flat fee of $39.95 and get unlimited calls in the US
OR
a plan where you pay a lower flat fee of $2.95 and a get charged $0.02/minute rate for US calls.*It sounds very reasonable actually, but yun nga lang - if the service sucks, then I don't care how cheap it is, it's still a waste of money. Having said that though, assuming you budgetted P$39.95 every month, you could either avail of the unlimited plan, or the value plan and effectively get 30 hours worth of calls.
They will give you a US number so for all purposes, your phone is in the US.* Another advantage is that you can have 3 lines and purposely pick lines with an LA area code, a SF area code and a NY area code so that when our customers from those areas call us, it is a local call for them.
*
According to website, set up is rather easy.* After you order, they ship you a box which you plug into your broadband network.* Then you just plug in any phone instrument into the box, and viola! you have a dial tone! (Does this sound too good to be true?)
*
What service do you guys use?
Thanks.

We don't use VOIP, as our volume of calls is too insignificant for us to consider alternatives to POTS. Further, most of our international calls are inbound.
But I subscribe to a small dialup internet plan provided by Mozcom. I use it for backup when my DSL is down, or when I am in a remote location. Recently, they offered 120 minutes a month free VOIP calls for everyone who is subscribed to a plan. For the monthly cost of a plan (as low as P350 + VAT), you could get 120 minutes at P3.21 per minute, which seems quite reasonable to me.

ei im curious about this. can more people shed some light in on comercial voip?
ive been aproaced by some mlm voip companies. the thought of networking as a means of distributing them is already turning me off about their services.
i think kakrista is somewhat connected rin to a voip comany rin. boss post ka dito.
i do agree good service is a must and my requirements need to be a stand alone system.

The NTC already ruled VoIP as a value added service, that means ISP's can package this voice service w/ their Internet. They are now drafting the guidelines and expect the giant Telco's to delay the process.
Before, only Telco's/International Gateway Facility (IGF) operators are allowed to offer VoIP. As far as I know and as of the moment, companies other than ISP's can offer VoIP provided they hook-up with an IGF operator and re-sell the service.
There are so many VoIP resellers that are sprouting right now, many of them are fly by night companies and MLM companies who are not really into voice termination (technically). I heard one big VoIP/MLM provider ceased its operations, I'm not surprised.

VoIP quality doesn't depend on the provider alone. End users should have adequate bandwidth and the minimum required would depend on the equipment and compression used by the provider.
I also have friends who are into inbound VoIP termination and bypass operation but was raided by the NTC, big money, big risks.

how is the quality, KD? I think we'd be willing to make more of an investment in something that was reliable and clear, rather than something that's cheap and tunog-lata :D
Also I think it you can use it as an international fax machine.. :D

NoisyCricket, what's ur existing Internet connection? sent you a PM :)
And yes, it can be used for faxing if you attach a data converter but I doubt its reliability.

NoisyCricket, i'll send you an email tomorrow for your reference. im not from ZipGlobal.. I work for a local telecommunications company.
Since youre using Skype, why not try their "rest of the world" calling feature... their service is not limited on Skype to Skype (IP to IP) calling alone, you can also use it to call land line and cell phones abroad.
you need a converter to use any VoIP system to send fax. Voice only needs around 9 to 64kbps and an average of 22kbps to transmit unlike fax w/c is Data (imagine scanning multiple pages and uploading it to the internet).. thats how long the transmission takes, aside from the length of termination on the recipient side. but if you find a fax over IP (data over IP) provider, try it still.. malay natin mali ako :)

pareng silentmax musta?
it's illegal if youre not an international carrier or if you don't have 214 license from the states and if u dont have an agreement w/ a local telco. mejo "semi-legal" sya if you will not use the PSTN facility of the telco (see diagram).. bypass operation kasi sya.. using the facilities of a telco to terminate voice calls w/out an agreement or w/out compensating the owner of the facility.
pero big money yan, if ur willing to take the risk.. wala pa namang nakukulong dyan. :D

Check this site www.talkstop.com, I think they have the best voip deal for pinoys. Here's why, your calls are totally free, no monthly, no connection, no hidden charges. Just buy 2 TalkStop voip phones, one for you and one for your family in the Philippines.
If you want 1 phone only, it's better to give it to your family in the Philippines. They can call your US/Canada regular phone or mobile number directly for 2 cents per min or Php 1.50 pesos. If you're in the US, you can call their voip phone totally free when you use the TalkStop local access number.
You can talk UNLIMITED FREE anytime, anywhere around the world as long as you have internet connection. It works on dialup.
Check it out www.talkstop.com.

OFWDude = Mr. Robert Pangilinan?
I'm composing the email now, although it seems strange to refer to someone as "a certain OFWdude on PinoyExchange.com" informed us that your company would be willing to donate to Children's Hour a Talkstop.com VOIP phone... ;)
By the way, how can we receive the phone from you? We may have some overseas donors returning for the christmas season. If you give us some instructions, we may be able to get it through them
How will we be charged monthly for the non-talk stop calls? :D

here's the best VOIP deal i've seen so far:
24/7 telebabad abroad for only $4.95/mothly. Yep, 270 pesos lang po isang buwan, 1-to-sawa nang tawagan abroad yan!
You just need to purchase 2 phones, one for you here and the other one for your loved-one (or contact) abroad.
Or you can buy one phone and enjoy the lowest VOIP rate being offered as of current. For u.s and canada landline/mobile calls, flat rate is $0.019/minute. Call rates can even go lower for other countries: hongkong - $0.017.
as for the the quality and clarity of call? that's the best part of the spiel: try this phone and you'll know you finally got the best deal.

For Virtual Manila number, you want www.vodini.com (http://www.vodini.com/index.php?page=subscribe&referrer=100-12539)
I have been using the service for about a month now and everything is working OK, monthly fee is ~$40.00 (better than $200.00 /mo I spent on phone cards)
Anybody can now have a virtual Manila telephone number through Vodini (http://www.vodini.com/index.php?page=subscribe&referrer=100-12539), this means free unlimited calls from your friends/family in Manila. I think for now, only Manila numbers are available but will have other province in the future.
Brief explanation:
You need to have a broadband connection. (Your family/friends in manila does NOT need to have broadband connection) This service is VOIP. When you sign up, you get a virtual manila phone number (i.e. 632-123-4567) you could either buy an ATA (An adapter so you can use your regular phone hooked up to your broadband connection) or you can use a SofPhone (which I use, basically you're using your computer/laptop as your phone) Friends/family from Manila can call you on that Manila number unlimited and it's just like calling another phone from manila for them and not a long distance call.
Should you have any questions/concerns shoot me an e-mail/ym at ace777s @ yahoo . com
If you decide to sign up Please have me as your referral: 100-12539
