hello doctors, i have a small lump at my lower back. sometimes it's painful, like a twitching pain. i don't bother to go to a doctor thinking that it is benign, after all i have it there since i was like 14. is there a possibility that benign tumors or lumps become malignant? i know the fact that they give you some discomfort, and they look somehow awful.
thanks for your response in advance.
Hello Bodacious, we need more info: What kind of lump is it-- Is it soft, firm or hard? What size in cms? Is it discolored? Where exactly in the lower back is it? Does it have hair growing out of it? Is it moveable? Do you have similar lumps in other parts of your body? Is it growing bigger? How exactly does it look like?
Regarding benign tumors turning malignant-- it's possible, but it's very rare.

Hello Doc Ira, it's kinda firm and hard, like a pea in size and no it's not discolored nor does it have hair growing out of it, and yes it's kinda movable. no similar lumps anywhere in my body. so what do you think this lump is? i'm not scared though, but sometimes it gives me some sort of a pinching pain.
by the way, it is like 7-8 centimeters from my waist line (left side, back).
thanks Doc Ira, i appreciate your concern! and yes, doc, this is Bodacious! LOL.
Hello Bodacious, sorry for the late answer...my internet provider went down for 2 days so I couldn't log on. Anyway, it's most probably an epidermal inclusion cyst, or maybe a sebaceous cyst. Either way, it's benign, but of course the best way to know is to go to a surgeon and have it excised and biopsied.
