View Full Version : bruised & battered
no, it's not a case for the ngo's for the protection of women ... but i can still feel pain in the area of this bruise i got on nov 21 when my knee hit the back of a chair [don't ask how!] ... it's been two wks ... i hope nothing's wrong for the bruise to stay on this long? :) ...
Nope, nothing wrong there. Some bruises just take longer to heal. Just be patient. :) I'm pretty sure it'll be gone by next week.

ann: although it's not exactly the part of your anatomy that you bruised, you may enjoy this definition -- shin (n.) - part of the leg useful for finding furniture in the dark.
seriously, heat helps clear these things up. if it was closer to the injury, i'd go for lots of ice. but if you're worried about it, there's no substitute for having a live doctor look at it.

I'm not really clear on this. Do we apply heat on the bruise? or ice?
For new injuries (trauma), ice would be right, and for pains like arthritis or muscle pains, heat is better.

mavi: guess i should have said, if the timing was closer to when she had the injury, then ice would be the way to go. but two weeks out, heat works better.

Should bruises which appear out of nowhere be a cause for concern? I didn't bump into anything but I have this bruise above my knee and I noticed it's gotten bigger in the last two days (about the size of a 5-centavo coin). I usually get bruises on the same spot when I have my period but that's still two weeks away. Should I get this checked by a doctor or what?
Thanks in advance.
An occassional, single odd bruise that occurs once in a blue moon without a history of trauma is probably nothing to get worried about. However, if spontaneous bruises seem to be occurring regularly, you should consult an internist/hematologist.
