Ira mentioned in another thread that physician's salaries in the Philippines right out of med school are pitifully low and in some cases (eg. PGH) is nonexistent. I was wondering what doctors have to look forward to in terms of pay after their training? In this day and age, what do docs typically charge in Manila for an office visit, for care when one is confined and for certain procedures? And if one is modestly successful, how does his/her pay compare to a businessman or an engineer who has joined the corporate world?

ok...internists who did not subspecialize may charge as low as PhP200 in the cities, and PhP100 in the provinces. Neurologists charge about PhP600-1000. Surgeons charge around PhP300-700 per visit. Ophthalmologists and otorhinolaryngologists charge PhP500 up (depending on the clinic procedure). Dermatologists may charge from as low as PhP200 for purely consult to way over PhP1000 for pimple-piercing, maybe. The general rule is, the more you're specialized, the more you charge.

BTW...PGH's salary, compared to other private hospitals, is manna from heaven. :D
