Yup. Straining during constipation can cause hernia (luslos), too.

Dr. Ira: I do a little bit of weightlifting, and i'd like to know what causes luslos, and how to prevent it. Does wearing a weightlifting belt help, or is that just for back support? What sort of precautions should i be taking?

Over 70% of hernias are inguinal hernias. Hernias are caused by congenital or age-related weaknesses in the abdominal walls. In males, they are caused by an improper closure of the abdominal cavity during the body's development in the womb. They can also be caused by an increase in pressure within the abdominal cavity due to heavy lifting (like what you're doing), straining, violent coughing, obesity or pregnancy. You can reduce your risk of developing a hernia by maintaining a healthy weight, exercising to tone the muscles of the abdomen, receiving medical help for chronic constipation, allergies, or a chronic cough, eating high-fiber foods, and avoiding the risk factors mentioned above.
Athletic supporters do not help in preventing a hernia. Holding up the scrotum with an athletic supporter does nothing to prevent a tearing of the abdominal wall. Neither does a weightlifting belt. BTW, once a hernia forms and the abdominal wall is torn, it will never close by itself. To close the defect, a surgeon must sew the ends of the hole together.
