masama ba magpatunog ng leeg?
OO! Aside from the fact that it's a disgusting party trick that will surely make the opposite sex run away from you, it's bad for your cervical spine. It may cause cervical disc bulges (or worse, protrusion), brachial plexus injuries, etc., among others. Either way, you will undergo surgery and/or months of rehabilitation if you make a little mistake with that kind of trick. So unless you feel that your HMO is earning too much from you and that you have to use your health card to get your money's worth, I suggest not doing that.
so how come barbers [r reputed to] do it to their customers?
Because they don't know any better.

okay, let's get this straight, people. do NOT let anyone near your neck if they're going to stretch, twist, yank or crack it, in any combination of the above!!! making it crack by yourself is likewise not encouraged! although ira's cautions about c-spine and nerve root injuries are right on the money, there's something more disastrous that can occur way before that happens -- tearing of your carotid artery, leading to a stroke. let's see how much fun you find life as a hemiplegic. true story, one of my former patients did it by habitually twisting his neck until it cracked. so unless you're half owl, don't do it, and don't let anyone else do it to you either.
How does one patunog his neck anyhows? Not that I plan to do it but it's the first time I've ever heard of such a thing.
What about cracking knuckles? I know a lot of people do it when they're bored. They make that awful noise too, like their bones are breaking. What's with the habit and is it good?
About the patunog ng neck thingie--I haven't the foggiest idea. About the knuckles--it's bad also, since it may cause arthritis when you get older.

Bat si Linda Blair sa exorcist, she twisted her neck all the way around but hindi naman nagheart attack ???
As for cracking the knuckles, I read somewhere that it was harmless, bakit mag cause ng arthritis ???
Jonny: Go to your doctor; it might just be muscle pains, but it's nicer to know what's going on in your body, di ba? At the very least he'll give you analgesics for it.
Kamatayan: Di mo ba napanood yung prequel ng Exorcist? Linda Blair was a descendant of the hooting owl. As for the knuckles...that kind of trauma to your finger joints may cause inflammation and arthritis in the future.

eh what about yung cracking ng lower back? for example you're driving tpos stop light. tpos hahawak ka sa sandalan tpos itwi-twist mo yung katawan mo hanggang tumunog yung lower back mo. tpos sa kabila naman. tpos masarap. o kaya yung hahawakan mo yung batok mo with both hands held together tpos meron kang friend na nasa likod mo tpos ibea-bear hug ka from behind kasama yung mga arms mo tpos masarap. pano yun? sama ba yun?

Yup, twisting and turning your back until it cracks is just as risky and is certainly NOT recommended. There's always that risk that you'll injure your spinal cord and be paralyzed.

*scared*
When I bend my head sideways, my neck "cracks." I don't "force" it to crack, it just...well...cracks. It doesn't make that crackling sound everytime I bend my head naman. Pag naramdaman ko na nangangalay na ang leeg ko, I bend my head (on impulse)...and my neck cracks. Then I feel better...not when I'm in a crowded public place though, say, sa jeepney--then it embarrasses the heck out of me, kasi it makes this creepy crackling sound nga... There must be something really wrong with me...?

Occassional spontaneous cracking sounds won't kill you, those are just ligaments stretching. Don't worry so much about it. However, try not to make it a habit.
