Yes, I smoke. It started one night in Euphoria when I was in 4th yeer high school.. LOL :)

I don't smoke everyday but before, it got to a point that I finished off a pack of Reds in one sitting. Yikes. Now, it's a stick or two a day. Except when I'm out with Ira, now THAT's another story... ;)

I've also gone through my share of favorites: Marlboro Reds, Mediums & Lights, Select Reds & Lights, Camels, even those chocolate flavored cigars.. LOL :P
Last month it was West Formula Lights, this month it's Winston Lights. :)

I like it best to smoke with hot black coffee... really gets you wired! There's no hot cup of Joe? How about a frappucino? I'm really desperate... COKE! Basta anything with caffeine!!!

Caffeine + Nicotine = NIRVANA *meditates*

ohmmmm....

Yes I do, unfortunately. I know it's bad for me...after all, I have studied tissue slides of lung cancer and obstructive pulmonary diseases due to cigarette smoking..but it's pretty hard to stop. I'm not physically dependent on it, but I am psychologically hooked..when I'm bored and I need something to do with my hands I inevitably reach out for my pack. I started when I was in 1st year premed, and my habit got worse in med school--half the class was smoking, and even my instructors would beg a stick or two from me--and even today, my colleagues in Manila smoke a lot. They just pretend they don't. One secret though: Operating rooms usually have a place where windows are open, so doctors can hide in there and smoke.

As for brands, I have gone through phases of favorites--Marlboro Lights, Winston Select, etc--and my current favorite now is Capri Menthol. I plan to stop eventually--I just don't know when.

mukhang puro girls ha... i do smoke but i'm not the type na can't-live-without-yosi... when i'm with friends lang, and kapag meron... but when i was in college, nung sobrang na feel ko na sobra, i stopped..cold turkey and it wasn't hard for me at all... and i've decided to quit cuz it's bad for the health and hindi maganda tignan... hindi bagay sa kin.. :)
i used to smoke marlboro light, mediums and ultra lights... u should try the ultra lights, masarap din...

yes i do.

it started one summer when i went abroad. out of sheer boredom i got my guy friends teach me how to smoke. but then i did not make it a part of my lifestyle until i came back to manila.

i've tried a lot. davidoff lights, west lights, west formula lights, west ice, malboro lights, reds, menthol regular, lucky strike, capri. but i still say malboro menthol lights- the best! however, it has to be blue seal. i'm not keen on smoking local menthol lights or any local smoke for that matter. it's really gross. it has this disgusting smell when u puff.

one time i got hooked on benson and hedges regular menthol. it's really good. the taste really stands out. but then, it's too strong and more importantly it's also too expensive for me. so i went back to malboro menthol lights. but i haven't been to the point of smoking a pack a day. 10 sticks max when i hang out with friends. 15 sticks on bad days like when i'm really pissed. otherwise, it's 5 to 7 sticks a day.

plan to quit? oh yes, i'm not "legal" and as far as i know my parents still don't know about their daughter being an avid fan of cigarettes. well, that's as far as i know. but then, knowing how mothers can know thing about u without u knowing. i think my mom knows already.

i think i'll wait for law school. so by then, i'd have this "valid" excuse y i do it.

Yup....count me in as well....i like Marlboro Lights or Reds .... basta not Menthol.... I believe that one can really stop smoking cold turkey if he/she just wants to ...hindi ako naniniwala doon sa sabi ng iba na "they just can't stop"..... the truth is that those ppl who say this just does not want to quit yet (mind over matter di ba ?).... there's a difference between "can't" and "want" di ba ? .....personally, I am not ready to stop yet so thats why I still smoke pero I have proven to myself that I can if I want to ... when I found out I was pregnant I simply stoppped just like that .....but then after 2 weeks of breastfeeding .....hehehehe ..oh well...one of these days I know that I will want to stop and I will ... :)

I smoke, but I'm not a smoker. Meaning, I just do it pag trip ko, during gimmicks, when I feel weird because I'm too full... I like the feeling of being lightheaded. However, if I smoke too much naman I get really dizzy.

I like Capri Menthol and Lucky Strike Lights. No reds for me, too much. :)

Yupp!!! Iam a certified smoker. I've been smoking for like 9 years now. The only point in my life when I stopped smoking was when i was hospitalized for a month.

Brands??? I started with Winston then Marlboro Reds, then Mediums, and now Lights.......see I'm trying to quit but it's really ****in' hard. Everytime I lower down the nicotine level per brand, the greater no. of sticks i smoke.

As the old saying goes..."A quitter never wins and a winner never quits..." labo!@#$% :D

Everyone knows that smoking can cause lung cancer and emphysema (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) but it is also a major risk factor for many diseases including throat cancer, stomach cancer, cervical cancer, breast cancer, heart disease, and stroke. Needless to say as a lung doctor myself, I think you all should stop! :)

As an aside, the drug zyban has truly revolutionized smoking cessation and has doubled the quit rates over the various nicotine preparations.

jonny: I think batang uliran would be in a better position to answer that, hehe. He's a pulmonologist/critical care doctor.

Batang Uliran: Wala pa dito yan, alas. Maybe you can bring some back to Manila when you finally come back here to settle. :) I think though that a lot of smokers persist because wala talagang magawa (especially when you're stuck in traffic!), so over and above the nicotine craving would be the psychological barrier of having to stop reaching for that pack of cigarettes when you're idle or when your friends are also smoking.

Zyban is wellbutrin. The reason it works pretty well is because it acts in the CNS to diminish the symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal. To learn more about this, visit: www.zyban.com (http://www.zyban.com)
Post here if you have any more questions.

i used to smoke ... learned it through my older cousins who made sure the younger ones won't tell by making us take a puff or two as well na[/i], menthol pa! buti na lang hindi champion *lol*] ... became a regular smoker [marl lights] in up, quit for 2 yrs, then started again with a vengeance [marl lights/med/red, winston select, luckies, basta hindi menthol] when i joined the working class until march this yr when i suddenly decided that i didn't want to smoke anymore ...

i tried to stop lots of times & failed but only succeeded when i stopped trying ...

[b]Zen: ur friend is brave ... he's going through a very difficult process [as is any form of withdrawal] ... & the odds r very much against him ... congratulate him for me when he makes it ...

at this point in medical history, the lay public has heard so much about the dangers of smoking that it's hard to plead ignorance. if you choose to smoke, you take the consequences. there is no free lunch.

i still have the occasional smoke, knowing that batang uliran will be there to glare disapprovingly, every puff of the way. ;)

Ira you really surprised me! You should know better considering your profession. Kasi I used to smoke but when I saw the face of a person dying with lung cancer, I said to myself...I'll give up anything just don't let me have this.

Right at that moment I quit smoking, cold turkey and all. I just hope the rest of you who still smoke would do the same.

Yup, I smoke when I'm stressed, which
is, what, every second? :)

Anyway, I started in second year High School.
I was once hooked on menthols, but it leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I now smoke West Ice, Formula Lights and Luckies(filter). Lights are good if you got nothing else. Mediums and Reds are the barkada sticks. Oh yeah, I just tired YSL. First impression: the sticks didn't fit the West box. But it had a smooth, light feel. :)

Nope, never tried it and never will. My elementary health teacher did such a good job by scaring us; she told us that smoking will cause lung cancer, bad breath, black gums, yellowed-teeth, etc. That was enough to convince my impressionable young mind that smoking is a "very bad thing."

i used to smoke Marlboros (red, menthol, light, ultra light). i started when I was in 2nd year High School. on the average, about 5 sticks a day. it was hard to quit but i did it. how? well, i believe in power of mind. every night before i go to sleep, i imagine myself vomiting everytime i smoke. i don't know if this would work for everybody but it sure worked for me.

Unfortunately, I do smoke. I learned when I was a junior in high school when I simply got curious and got a stick from my brother's pack. I liked it... and I'm still a smoker. I know I should stop... a lot of people are getting on my case to stop -- my mom, my dad, my coach... haaaay... sarap kse magyosi especially after meals. :)

I've gone through most "lights" na cigarettes -- Marlboro, Capri, Camel Special Lights...

I'm not a chain smoker though. Hindi rin ako "legal". I just buy a pack when I feel like it. Lately, I've been spending money on Winston Lights. Ganda kasi ng packaging eh, favorite color ko.

I've been smoking since I was in 1st yr hs. When my mom found out, she went ballistic! No one in my family smokes kasi...
I've gone through different brands as well, pero I always fall back to Marlboro lights. I also like West Formula Lights (ganda din kasi ng packaging)& West Ice(<;-- Hirap nga lang mag-hanap!). Basta West maganda :) Parang feel ko ako si Mika Hakkinen :)

Yes I smoke. I startd at a late age(21). It's not a form of rebellion or anything like it. I never resented smokers even though I come from a family of non-smokers and smoker-haters. I never took it against anyone if they smoked, especially my friends. If they want to puff, fine, go ahead. I transferred to another UP campus here in the province and boring days and cold nights are a normal occurence. So one day, I decided to take a stick from my roommate's pack(Marl Reds) and puffed the whole stick(not hithit-buga!). So that was the start of it. But now, I've stuck to Marlboro Lights. I was a chain smoker at first for a year and a half, then after that, I decided to go on 10, then 5. I made it, but now I'm back in the habit of consumming almost apack a day. On weekends though, I don't smoke. Rest day. :)
Planing to quit? Malapit na. ;)

Mylene:

Here's what's known about smoking and cancer:

1. Single most important cause of cancer (all forms) mortality with 30% of deaths due to cancer attributed to smoking.

2. 120,000 deaths in 1991 in the U.S. from lung cancer attributed to smoking.

3. 1 pack per day - 10 times the risk of a non-smoker for lung cancer. 2 packs per day - 25 times the risk of a non-smoker for lung cancer.

4. Risk for lung cancer is increased by: # of years smoked, # of cigarettes smoked daily, earlier aga of smoking initiation, and use of unfiltered cigarettes and thos high in tar.

5. Non-smoking spouses of smokers have a 30% increased rate of lung cancer compared to non-smoking spouses of non-smokers.

And if you get lung cancer the chances that it will be found at a stage when it can be cured are very small.
