kahapon ng tanghali nang makatanggap kami ng text message mula sa isang fellow writer na nagtatanong tungkol sa pagkaka-dismiss daw ng kasong acts of lasciviousness na isinampa ng kaibigan naming si Salve Asis laban kay Willie Revillame.

Tinawagan namin ang nasabing writer to say na wala kaming alam sa sinasabi niya't tatawagan namin si Salve to check if it's true.

True to our word, we called up Salve, na kasalukuyang papunta rin sa nasabing presscon, but to our surprise, she was as clueless as we were tungkol sa nasabing balita.

Pagdating sa presscon, wala kaming naging chance to talk about the subject at length, although nag-check si Salve with her counsel, Atty. Bonifacio Alentajan, na kapareho naming hindi pa properly notified.

Last Sunday ay hindi raw umalis ng bahay si Jericho Rosales para panoorin ang S-Files dahil nabalitaan niyang nagpa-interview sa nasabing programa ang babaeng diumano'y naanakan ng kanyang kapatid na si Jeremiah, artista na ngayon at kasama sa Star Circle batch 13.

Kinansela raw ni Echo ang kanyang mga importanteng lakad para lang mapanood ang S-Files, pero ang nakalulungkot na parte, hindi ito naiere dahil nag-overtime ang programa.

Imbiyernang-imbiyerna raw si Jericho dahil hindi nga naman siya umalis ng bahay at ipinagpalit ang mahalagang lakad, pero naghintay lang siya sa wala.

Siyempre, gusto niyang mapanood ang sasabihin ng girl (whom we learned ay Ethel ang name) dahil involved ang buong pamilya niya.

Ang irony, sa kabilang programa (The Buzz) ay iniinterbyu naman ang dati niyang girlfriend na si Kristine Hermosa na, for

sure, ay hindi niya napanood dahil nakatutok nga siya sa S-Files.

Anyway, sa parte naman ng S-Files, ang alam naming ay intended talagang ipalabas ang interview ng dyowa ni Jeremiah and, in fact, paulit-ulit pa itong itini-tease during the program.

Nagkulang lang talaga sa oras at next Sunday, siguro naman ay maipalalabas na ito, kaya tiyak na aabangan na naman ni Echo.

Binasag na ni Daniel Razon ang kanyang katahimikan by admitting na talagang tsinugi siya sa programang Unang Hirit.

"My contract was terminated," he said at the press conference of his new morning show, Pilipinas, Gising Ka Na Ba? yesterday afternoon.

Dapat ay December 31, 2005 pa ang expiration ng kanyang contract, pero hindi na ito ipinatapos sa kanya at last June 13, kinausap siya sabay bigay ng notice na tine-terminate na ang kanyang kontrata."

Wala raw ibinigay na rason sa kanya kung bakit siya pinaaalis, pero kinumpirma niya ang spekulasyon na may kinalaman ang lumalaking rift ng INC (Iglesia ni Kristo) at Dating Daan ni Brother Eli Soriano, kung saan isa siyang active member and officer (vice president for external affairs).

Nakatanggap daw ng text messages ang network na nagsasaad na kung hindi aalisin si Daniel sa UH ay ibu-boycott nila ang programa. Diumano, ang mga mensahe ay nanggaling sa mga miyembro ng INC.

May ispekulasyon ding kumalat na ang nasabing boycott ang dahilan kung bakit sumadsad sa ratings ang UH, pero ayon kay Ka Daniel, hindi ito totoo dahil noong nakaraang Mayo, pumalo pa sila sa ratings at natalo ang MUP (Magandang Umaga Pilipinas, dating Magandang Umaga Bayan).

Nilinaw din ni Daniel ang tungkol sa balitang minura niya ang isang ministro ng INC sa Bible Exposition noong Abril na ginanap sa Gen. Trias, Cavite City, na naging dahilan kung bakit nagalit nang husto ang INC sa kanya.

"Hindi ako nagmura. May video footage ako. Nagkaroon ng confrontation, pero hindi ako nagmura. In fact, 'yung ministro pa nga ang nag-dirty finger sign at nakunan ko pa," he said.

Nang mabalitaan daw ng GMA-7 bosses ang nangyari, kaagad siyang ipinatawag nina Atty. Felipe Gozon and Jimmy Duavit para tanungin kung ano ang totoo at ipinaliwanag naman daw niya.

"I showed them the footages at malinis ang konsensiya ko na wala talaga akong ginawang masama," paliwanag pa ni Ka Daniel.

Just the same, tinanggal pa rin daw siya at wala na siyang magagawa pa tungkol dito.

"I left with a heavy heart because I didn't want to lose my job. Pero, ipinagmamalaki ko naman na hindi ako natanggal because of incompetence or unprofessionalism. I did my job well, I served the network well for three years and I'd say I'm still thankful to them for giving me the opportunities," he said.

Ngayon ay may bagong morning program si Daniel sa untv Channel 37 (UHF), ang Pilipinas Gising Ka Na Ba? at makakasama niya rito sina Jay Sonza, Ben Tulfo, Atty. Batas Mauricio, Annie Rentoy at ang mga kasamahan sa panulat na Pete Ampoloquio, Jr. and Peter Ledesma. Magsisimula ito sa July 4, 5-7 a.m.

HINDI kami umalis hanggang 'di nakakausap si Toni Gonzaga sa presscon ng D'Anothers movie ng Star Cinema kahapon. First time magsama sa pelikula nina Toni at Vhong Navarro na, ayon sa TV host-actress, ay masarap katrabaho.

Curious kami about the real score between Toni and Luis Manzano, na very vocal sa pagsasabing willing siyang maghintay kahit gaano katagal mapasagot lang ang dalaga.

"I'm very flattered, siyempre. Feeling ko nga ang haba-haba ng hair ko, hanggang EDSA na. Kaya lang, nakaka-pressure. Lahat na lang ng tao, 'yun ang sinasabi sa akin. Narinig naming isa uling sikat na Asian actress ang sunod na kukunin ng network para isama sa mga susunod nilang serye.

Si Song Hye-ko na kaya ito? Nabalita kasing bago si Joe Chen, si SHK ang kinonsider na isama kay Richard Gutierrez sa Sugo. Hindi lang natuloy dahil mataas daw ang hinihinging talent fee ng agent nito. Maraming Pinoy fans ang Korean actress mula nang mapanood siya sa Endless Love 1 at mas nagustuhan pa sa Full House sa role niyang si Jessie.

Hindi pala namin naitanong ang tungkol dito sa press launch ng Sugo dahil busy ang staff ng show. Nakalimutan din nga naming itanong kay Richard kung anong feeling na 'yung harness na ginamit niya sa rehearsal ay the same harness na ginamit ng Chinese actor na si Chow Yun-Fat sa movie na Bulletproof Monk.

Nainggit kami kay Polo Ravales dahil ang ring tone ng mobile phone niya'y Tadhana o Destiny, ang closing song ng Encantadia ni Bayang Barrios. (Kay Suzette Doctolero, head writer ng tele-fantasy pa namin nalaman ang title nito).

Bale ba, sunud-sunod ang tawag kay Polo kaya, paulit-ulit naming narinig ang song. Galing daw kay director Mark Reyes ang ring tone na minimithing maging ring tone ng viewers ng show.

Nakausap namin si Polo dahil ipalalabas sa Cinemalaya Film Festival ang digital movie niyang Roomboy sa direksyon ni Aloy Adlawan. Naniwala sa project ang actor kaya pumayag itong magpakita ng puwet at umabot sa 10 seconds ang kanyang butt exposure. May kissing scene rin nila ni Meryll Soriano, na gaya niya'y ngayon lang gagawa ng love scene.

Kahit maliit ang talent fee, nag-enjoy si Polo sa movie na may malalim na tema. The same thing na type niya ang contravida role sa Encantadia't mas may challenge at impact daw sa tao.

Funded ng Cultural Center of the Philippines ang Cinemalaya filmfest na tatakbo mula July 12 hanggang 17. Kinulang ang P500,000 na ibinigay sa mga director at nag-abono si direk Aloy na umabot sa P700,000.

Nasa cast din sina Chanda Romero, Rechie del Carmen, Toji Gastrock, JP Noriega at Ynez Veneracion.

Bilib talaga kami kay Mother Lily Monteverde dahil hindi nagpapataranta sa sinasabing patay na ang local movie industry. Sunud-sunod pa rin ang paggawa niya ng pelikula, kaya kailangan siyang suportahan.

Nagbago ang isip nito't hindi lang isa kundi tatlong pelikula (as of now), ang ipapasok niya sa 2005 Metro Manila Film Festival. Una rito ang Chinoy, na ang mga lead actor ay sina Eddie Garcia, Rudy Fernandez at Christopher de Leon, na ngayon lang magkakasama. Pinipili pa ang mga artistang babae na kanilang makakasama. Si Joel Lamangan ang director ng project na mas malaki raw sa Mano Po series.

Pang-MMFF din ang White Lady na ang mga bida'y sina Jennylyn Mercado, Mark Herras at JC de Vera sa direksyon ni Mark Reyes. May problema ito sa casting dahil kasama sa cast ng movie adaptation ng Mulawin at Encantadia sina Jennylyn at Mark. Entry ng GMA Films sa MMFF ang nasabing project.

Ibabalik din ni Mother Lily ang Shake, Rattle & Roll na kung inyong natatandaan, laging nanguna sa box-office sa mga nagdaang film festival. Nagka-cast na ang Regal ng mga magbibida sa trilogy movie.

Hindi pang-filmfest, pero gagawin ni Mother Lily ang Apo ni Lola, sequel ng Bahay ni Lola. Si Jun Lana ang director nito't uunahin niya itong gawin sa Gua Ai Di. Sinusulat na ang script nito at kapag natapos na ang casting, sisimulan na agad ang shooting ng horror flick.

EVEN the parents of Asian superstar Coco Lee were shocked when they saw the MTV of her new song, "So Good," which she herself composed. "This is my most risqué song so far," she says. "I wear a flesh colored bikini in the video so I look naked and the lyrics of the song are shocking as it's about a girl who's making love and finding it so good." Born in Hong Kong, Coco and her family moved to San Francisco when she was just a child and it was there that she was discovered as a singer. She returned to Hong Kong in 1993 and hit it big as a Chinese singer.

She became a favorite magazine cover in various countries and performed with international artists like Ricky Martin and Julio Iglesias. She also got to perform the theme song of "Crouching Tiger," "A Love Before Time," in the 2001 Oscar Awards where it was nominated. After six years, Coco now releases her 2nd English album, "Exposed," through Sony BMG Asia. It has 13 first rate songs, including "So Good," where she becomes very open about sex for the first time. Is it true that a number of ABS-CBN employees are going to be retrenched as part of the company's streamlining process?

According to a source, close to 500 personnel are going to lose their jobs, especially those who have overlapping positions in the company. Also a number of TV shows are going to be axed, as evidenced by the cancellation of "Pipol" and "Dong Puno Live." More shows are allegedly on the way out as the network is not only trying to cut down on expenses but also in the process of giving the network a new perspective as far as its programming scheme is concerned.

A proof of the network's desire to effect change is the change in the day and time slot of Boy Abunda's "Kontrobersyal" which started airing on its new time slot last Thursday after "Insider." According to a source, the move was calculated

to pit "Kontrobersiyal" against "Debate." Boy's show was not taken out of the Saturday late evening slot because it is being beaten in the ratings by "Showbiz Stripped."

"Para may pantapat sa 'Debate' kasi hindi nila matalo ang show na ito," said a source. "In fairness sa 'Kontrobersiyal,' isa ito sa highest rating shows ng ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Department at dalawang beses lang ito natalo sa ratings ng 'Showbiz Stripped,' a fact that is acknowledged by the staff of Ricky Lo's show."

ABS-CBN hopes that pitting "Kontrobersiyal" against "Debate" would not only give Boy Abunda's show added punch but subsequently nib at the lofty rating being enjoyed by "Debate."

First philippines' co-prod market

The deadline for submission of entries to the 2nd Boracay International Co-Production Meeting has been moved to July 17, following numerous requests from South and East Asian filmmakers.

The Boracay summit, to be held on August 19 to 21 as part of the 7th Cinemanila International Film Festival, is considered the first co-production market in the Philippines. It will award a cash prize of approximately $10,000 each to two film projects selected by representatives from the Hubert Bals Fund of the International Film Festival of Rotterdam and the G%F6teborg Film Festival Fund.

Cinemanila festival director Amable "Tikoy" Aguiluz VI explained that the deadline has been reset to accommodate more entries from other Asian countries. Several filmmakers from South and East Asia requested for an extension to give them more time to translate their scripts in English and complete the other requirements.

Aside from providing partial financial assistance to selected films, the co-production meeting also aims to bring together quality and feasible projects from filmmakers with demonstrable talent and ability. Although the selection committee looks closely at the financial viability of the project, the decisive factors remain its content and artistic value.

Last year, the first recipients of the grant from the co-production meeting were Singaporean producer Juan Foo and director Han Yew Kwang for their entry "Pinball" and acclaimed Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz for his new project "Heremias." Asa and Camilla Larsson from G%F6teborg and Gertjan Zuilhof from Hubert Bals served as jury.

The Hubert Bals Fund is designed to bring remarkable or urgent feature film and feature length creative documentaries by innovative and talented filmmakers from the developing countries closer to fulfillment. The fund provides grants that often turn out to play a crucial role in enabling filmmakers to realize their projects. Since it started in 1988, over 530 projects (scripts, post production, training and distribution) from independent filmmakers in Asia, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Africa, and Latin America have received support.

On the other hand, the G%F6teborg Film Festival Fund actively supports film production and has so far helped finance more than a hundred films. The fund ties up with the Hubert Bals Fund to further strengthen the opportunities that are available to the filmmakers in the developing countries.

Meanwhile, the deadline for submissions for independent feature, short films, and documentaries to the annual Cinemanila is set on July 10.

Chynna in Autograph-signing session

After walking away from "the best job in the country" late last year, the founding editor in chief of FHM is back with a new magazine. Eric Ramos is proud to present Pump, a new magazine designed to compete with his old one.

He knows comparisons are unavoidable, especially because he has labeled Pump, "the magazine for men who knows better and deserve the best."

"Pump is a lot like FHM in terms of sexiness and humor, but it is more sports oriented," says Eric, who is both publisher and editor in chief. "I'd like to think Pump has more substance from cover to cover and is ultimately a better magazine all around. But of course the readers will have to decide for themselves."

MAMAYA ang launching album ng Viva Hot Men.

At least, wala mang pelikula, may ibang naga-gawa ang grupo ng guys ngViva.Launched through a direct to video titled Hot Men, nasabi noon sa amin ni Direk Rico Gu-tierrez that it was the fas-test selling video to come out from Viva that time at mas nauna pa ngang na-ubos ang DVD nito kesa VCD.

Naibalita noon na may follow-up video and ma-gazine ito but both were shelved although na feature din sila sa Sex Guru video ni Asia Agcaoili na may follow-up din daw.

This time, ang kanilang debut album naman ang ilu-launch mamayang gabi sa Klownz Araneta. Composed of Allen Dizon, Paolo Serrano, Alken Miranda, McMiel Dennison, Justin De Leon, Ethan Zulueta, Tonio Quiazon and Jerome Ocampo, magkakaroon din sila ng mini- concert kung saan kakantahin nila ang ilang cuts sa album including Pandesal na carrier single, Bola Bola, Mahal Bati Tayo at Sari-saring Amoy ng Lalaki.

Sa Sunday ang grand launch ng Viva Hot Men Album sa ASAP 05 ng ABS.

What’s happening to Judy Ann Santos?

What’s happening to Judy Ann Santos? Well, aside from being a "favorite" of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, and having a loving and doting boyfriend in TV host Ryan Agoncillo with whom she spends most of her time these days, we’re sure, her fans would like to know what’s in store for their idol. Because it’s been quite a time since they last saw her in a TV or movie project.


The fans seems to be anxiously awaiting for any project that their idol may be doing soon. Fans may be a jealous lot, but Juday’s supporters have given their thumbs-up to her romantic relationship with Ryan. They approved of it and so it means they’ll keep on supporting and adoring her despite her having a regular and genuine boyfriend now.

Well, it will certainly delight her fans to know that Juday’s manager, the fearless and indefatigable Alfie Lorenzo is negotiating for several projects for his protege. When we saw Alfie and Juday at the Windows Café at ABS-CBN recently, they were talking to network executives about Juday’s projects, in particular a movie which might be shot in Spain. The movie project has long been awaiting the light of day. And now that Juday is not so busy, Alfie said they’re hoping they will start shooting soon.

After the movie, Juday is expected to do another series for ABS-CBN. Her last was "Krystala," which she did after "Basta’t Kasama Kita," the action-drama series which paired her (and romantically linked her!) to the controversial action star Robin Padilla.

So, about her and Ryan Agoncillo, when are they planning to get married? Juday is already 27 years old and she’s been in the public eye since she was a teener. But although she has heard it told around that a woman should have her own child at least before she turns 30, Juday said she’s not tired of single-blessedness yet. She said she still loves her job; she doesn’t like it to happen that when she’s already married, she’ll be missing her showbiz career so bad that she would want to go back to it.

So, in the meantime, she’ll take advantage of the opportunities being offered her, and maybe when she and Ryan are both ready they’ll talk about marriage. Of course, Juday would want to have her own family and children, most especially, but "in due time, kapag ready na ako sa buhay may asawa."

For her, just because she’s already 27 doesn’t mean she’s in panicsville.

For the first time, nagkita-kita the other night sa isang gathering sina Kris Aquino, James Yap and Alvin Patrimonio. Kuwento ni Mae Ochoa, feeling awkward daw si Kris dahil feeling niya, nai-ignore siya ng ex-boyfriend niya sa dinner for sports editors and PBA Press Corp hosted by James Yap na candidate pala for PBA Rookie of the Year. Lahat daw kasi ng present tinapik ni Alvin sa balikat, pero pagdating kay Kris, parang dedma raw ito.

Pero kuwento naman ni Ms. Dina Marie Villena, PSN Sports Editor, ‘Hi’ lang ang batian ng dalawa.

Team manager si Alvin ng Purefoods kaya wala siyang choice kundi suportahan ang kanilang shooting guard na si James. Hindi naman daw nag-stay ng matagal si James, mga 15 minutes lang ito.

Anyway, almost 9:00 p.m. daw nang dumating si Kris sa Pantalan restaurant. "Grabe pala ang PR niya. Lovable siya at ang daming kuwento," sabi ni Ate Dina.

Isa sa kuwento ni Kris according naman kay Mae Ochoa kung ano ang reaction ni Presidente Corazon Aquino nang sabihin niyang nakipag-date siya sa basketball player. Nang i-mention niya raw ang name na James Yap: "Talaga magaling siya. Rookie ‘yan ng UAAP."

Galing daw ng Manaoag, Pangasinan sina Kris and James bago sila tumuloy sa Pantalan. Inabot ng 12NU ang nasabing dinner.

Nakuwento ni Kris na seloso raw si James. Ayaw daw nitong makipag-kissing siya sa movie and TV kaya two movies na lang ang gagawin niya - Sukob with Claudine Barretto and another movie under Star Cinema at willing siyang i-give up ang career niya.

Ang Pilipino STAR Ngayon

Nagbigay na ng official statement ang ABS-CBN tungkol sa appointment ng mga bagong official ng News and Current Affairs.

Nauna na si Maria Ressa bilang head ng ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs, si Charie Villa naman ang magiging head ng News gathering, si Luchie Cruz Valdez ay mananatiling Head of the Network’s Current Affairs group, Beth Frondoso, CBN will continue as Supervising Producer of TV Patrol, Vince Rodriguez, one of the network’s veteran executive producers and news managers will continue to head the Studio 23 news operation and JR Umipig was appointed Head of News Engineering.

"The objective here is to make ABS-CBN the most credible and respected in the field of news and current affairs," Mr. Cito Alejandro said regarding the appointments.

Pero may ilang nag-aapela sa re-appointment ni Luchi Cruz Valdez dahil since mag-transfer daw ito sa ABS-CBN, wala naman itong na-prove. "Siya pa nga ang nagha-handle sa TV Patrol nang bumagsak ang rating nila," sabi ng isang ABS-CBN insider na ang pakiramdam ngayon ay dead end na ang kanyang career dahil sa early retirement.

Maging ang kapalaran ni Mr. DJ Sta. Ana ay tinatanong nila kung saan na pupunta.

Balitang marami pang mangyayaring changes sa buong kumpanya ng Dos.

Is it true that a number of ABS-CBN employees are going to be retrenched as part of the company's streamlining process?

According to a source, close to 500 personnel are going to lose their jobs, especially those who have overlapping positions in the company. Also a number of TV shows are going to be axed, as evidenced by the cancellation of "Pipol" and "Dong Puno Live." More shows are allegedly on the way out as the network is not only trying to cut down on expenses but also in the process of giving the network a new perspective as far as its programming scheme is concerned.

A proof of the network's desire to effect change is the change in the day and time slot of Boy Abunda's "Kontrobersyal" which started airing on its

new time slot last Thursday after "Insider." According to a source, the move was calculated to pit "Kontrobersiyal" against "Debate." Boy's show was not taken out of the Saturday late evening slot because it is being beaten in the ratings by "Showbiz Stripped."

"Para may pantapat sa 'Debate' kasi hindi nila matalo ang show na ito," said a source. "In fairness sa 'Kontrobersiyal,' isa ito sa highest rating shows ng ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs Department at dalawang beses lang ito natalo sa ratings ng 'Showbiz Stripped,' a fact that is acknowledged by the staff of Ricky Lo's show."

ABS-CBN hopes that pitting "Kontrobersiyal" against "Debate" would not only give Boy Abunda's show added punch but subsequently nib at the lofty rating being enjoyed by "Debate."

News Briefs on the Rehabilitation Operations

After six months, Sagip Kapamilya has conducted a strategic rehabilitation

program which includes livelihood and medical programs. Updates as follows:

> Farm clearing and preparation. The state-of-the-art farm tractor being

utilized can plow 3 has. in a day. More convenient to use as it reduces time

as compared to conventional ones that can finish the same area in 6 days. The

project targets the first five barangays in Infanta.

Noted before was the dengue outbreak in the province. Due to the backhoe

rental, it jumpstarted the declogging and clearing of the Balucanag creek

last June 14 that lessened the occurrence of dengue cases. Rice seeds,

vegetable seeds and fertilizer will be distributed this July 2005.

> Health and Nutrition. Potable water is being distributed to 20 barangays.

Medical missions are scheduled June 30 and July 1 while, supplemental feeding

will start mid-July 2005.

Three ambulances were turned over recently to the municipalities of Infanta,

Nakar and Real that will further boost Sagip Kapamilya's health program

activities.

> Shelter Program with Kalinga Luzon. Ninety-four (94) out of 100 housing

unit were completed, 34 in Santiago City, Isabela, 28 Bongabong and 32 in

Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro with the support of Kalinga Luzon. Other areas to

be developed are: Maria Aurora, Aurora; Nakar and Infanta, Quezon; Calabanga,

Camarines Sur; Basud Camarines Norte; Bulalacao, Mansalay, Roxas and

Bongabong, Oriental Mindoro. Funds for the second set of 100 houses was

already released this June.

> Bridge financing for NIA irrigation repair. Through in-house financing,

farming communities can now access irrigation service. The next step will be

to reprogram Php5 million to finance viable livelihood projects in 10

SAGIP-GK shelter sites, and, to implement projects in support of

environmental and children and family concerns.

WHAT follows is the full text of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's

statement on June 27, 2005 on the issue of the tape recordings:

Mga Minamahal kong Kababayan,

For the last several weeks, the issue of the tape recordings has spun out of

control. Tonight, I want to set the record straight. You deserve an

explanation; from me, because you are the people I was elected to serve.

As you recall, the election canvassing process was unnecessarily slow even

after the election results were already in and the votes had been counted.

I was anxious to protect my votes and during that time had conversations with

many people, including a Comelec official. My intent was not to influence the

outcome of the election, and it did not. As I mentioned, the election had

already been decided and the votes counted. And as you remember, the outcome

had been predicted by every major public opinion poll, and adjudged free,

fair and decisive by international election observers, and our own Namfrel.

That said, let me tell you how I personally feel, I recognize that making any

such call was a lapse in judgment. I’m sorry. I also regret taking so long to

speak before you on this matter. I take full responsibility for my actions

and to you and to all those good citizens who may have had their faith shaken

by these events. I want to assure you that I have redoubled my efforts to

serve the nation and earn your trust.

Pinana’gutan ko nang lubusan ang aking mga ginawa at humuhingi ako ng tawad

I took office with a mandate to carry out a plan for the nation. Since that

time, I have focused on making the tough but necessary decisions to make up

for years of economic neglect. We passed a comprehensive fiscally responsible

national budget; raised new and necessary revenues to reinvest in the people;

and implemented new anti-corruption measures that have led to the highest

collection of taxes in history.

Nothing should stand in the way of this work, or the next phase of my reform

agenda, which includes new investments in education and social services with

our new revenues; and an expansion of our successful anti-corruption and

lifestyle checks.

That is why I want to close this chapter and move on with the business of

governing.

I ask each and every one of you to join hands with me in a show of unity, to

help forge One Philippines, where everyone is equal under the law, and where

everyone has the opportunity to use their God-given talents to make a better

NOT only President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, but Vice President Noli de

Castro, should step down, Party List Representatives Teddy Casino (Bayan

Muna), Crispin Beltran (Anakpawis) and Liza Maza (GABRIELA) said yesterday.

The congressmen made known their sentiments in reaction to De Castro's

pronouncements on his willingness to assume the presidency once President

Arroyo resigns or is booted out from office.

They claimed that as the President's running mate under the K-4 Coalition

during the 2004 elections, De Castro's victory was "tainted with fraud and

irregularities."

The Vice President, reacting to their comments, said that what the

Constitution dictates should be followed, adding he is obliged to follow the

law. He is more than willing to abide

by the Constitution, he said.

"This is democracy, they're entitled to their opinions," De Castro said. "But

in my heart and in my mind, I am more than willing to prove that I wasn't

involved in any anomaly."

"Like Mrs. Arroyo's, De Castro's victory is highly suspicious. He should also

step down. His offer (to take over) is not acceptable to the people because

they know that there was widespread cheating during the elections," according

to Casino. But he said he will support a transition government "with Susan in

it," in reference to Susan Roces, the widow of actor Fernando Poe Jr., who

joined last Wednesday the clamor for President Arroyo's resignation. "It

would be best if he (De Castro) steps down, too," Casino added.

Maza agreed that De Castro's win is still the subject of an electoral protest

filed by former Sen. Loren Legarda, who lost the vice presidency by more than

one million votes, almost the same margin registered by President Arroyo over

Poe.

Instead of De Castro taking over the helm of the government, Maza said she

prefers a "transition government made up of a council that will be

representative of the people's will."

"The council should be composed of patriotic and democratic forces," she

said.

Stressing that De Castro is "unfit" for the presidency, Beltran said the Vice

President will continue to protect the business interests of the Lopez

family, owners of the giant ABS-CBN broadcast network which "built" De Castro

as a newscaster.

According to the congressman, it will be the "people who will suffer" under

De Castro once he becomes president.

"We feel that both President Arroyo and De Castro should resign now," Beltran

said.

In a press statement, the party list group Partido ng Bayan expressed disgust

over what it perceived was De Castro's "eagerness" to take over should

President Arroyo step down.

"De Castro is not a spare tire but a vulture waiting to pounce on GMA's dying

regime. He is the worst kind of opportunist. He is simply not the people's

choice," the group said.

Earlier, lawyer Jesses Andres, the Vice President's chief of staff, said De

Castro was prepared to replace President Arroyo once she vacates her seat.

Pros & cons

But Senator Juan Ponce Enrile, maintaining that there is a constitutional

succession that must be followed by each and every Filipino, yesterday

reiterated his position to uphold what them Constitution dictates.

In a press conference, Enrile said there is a constitutional succession and

"should the President need to step down, the Vice President is the immediate

constitutional successor."

Enrile said he is supporting De Castro should Mrs. Arroyo resign as what the

Constitution dictates and not a snap election as earlier proposed by Senate

Minority Leader Aquilino Pimentel Jr.

"A snap election is definitely unconstitutional. We should acknowledge that

the Constitution rules this country. We are all under the law and we should

not short cut the law by imposing our own will. No one is above the

Constitution," Enrile stressed.

He said the apology offered by the President is not enough to end the

controversy over the tapes. "It will not end there," Enrile said. " This will

continue until it will finally be resolved legally.

The choice for us is: are we going to follow a constitutional path or a

revolutionary path? That is the basic issue now."

Senator Panfilo Lacson said he is more than willing to accept De Castro as

President if Mrs. Arroyo resign, unless evidence would show that the Vice

President also committed some fraud.

De Castro who ran under the administration ticket won against opposition bet

former Senator Loren Legarda, who ran under the Kilusan ng Nagkakaisang

too.

He said that since he has been a running mate of the President, it is normal

that people will also cast their doubts on his vice presidency.

Senator Jamby Madrigal said only if there is proof that De Castro did not

cheat, that she will throw her support for him as replacement should Mrs.

Arroyo leave her post.

Meanwhile, former Senator Loren Legarda, who was defeated in the vice

presidency in the 2004 national elections, yesterday made an initial payment

to the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET) in connection with the election

protest she filed against De Castro.

Legarda went to the Supreme Court, acting as PET, and lodged P4.8 million as

payment for the four provinces she claimed having errors in the canvass of

election returns.

Her payment signaled the recanvassing of ballots in 12,105 precincts.

The amount will be used for the reopening and recanvassing of ballots in the

four provinces, such as Lanao del Sur, Lanao del Norte, Surigao del Sur and

Cebu province.

Earlier, Legarda was ordered by the SC to pay P11.3 million for the six

provinces.

The PET came out with such amount as it based their computation on 22,679

ballot boxes for the four provinces and two other provinces -- Maguindanao

and Pampanga.

She expressed confidence that the recounting of ballots in the said four

provinces will show that she is ahead of De Castro.

Legarda appealed on the amount of the recanvassing of ballots. The PET

ordered the former senator to pay P500 for every ballot box to be opened.

In her earlier petition, she averred that the PET should relax the rules to

give way to justice. She also asked the SC that the accounting should be

based on P500 per precinct and not P500 per ballot box.

However, the PET denied her petition and ordered her to shoulder the expenses

of the election canvassers and revisors.

Cesar Chaves, deputy administrator of the Land Rail Transit Authority and a

trusted aide of the Vice President, said that "from the time (De Castro)

filed his candidacy, he was fully aware that among his constitutional mandate

is to assume the presidency in case the President resigns if impeached or is

incapacitated."

He is indeed ready but only under a constitutional succession, Chaves said,

adding that outside the framework of the Constitution, De Castro will never

allow himself to be part of it.

Chaves expressed hope that President Arroyo will survive the crisis

confronting her administration.

'Everybody resign'

SENATOR Ramon Magsaysay Jr. has urged all Cabinet members of the Arroyo

administration to resign amid the controversy hounding the present

leadership.

Magsaysay said Cabinet members and heads of major agencies in the government

must submit their courtesy resignation to purge and overhaul the entire

government bureaucracy.

"The time is now," Magsaysay said.

The senator's reaction came after Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap has

resigned reportedly to clear his name of allegations of tax evasion and

because he does not want to cause further damage to President Gloria

Macapagal-Arroyo's troubled government.

Yap insisted, however, that his resignation was not in response to mounting

pressure on Arroyo and her allies to quit after allegations of fraud during

last year's presidential election.

Naalala ko na tatlong beses kong sinulat si Cardinal Sin. Iyong una ay sa

Bilib talaga kami kay Mother Lily Monteverde dahil hindi nagpapataranta sa

sinasabing patay na ang local movie industry. Sunud-sunod pa rin ang paggawa

niya ng pelikula, kaya kailangan siyang suportahan.

Nagbago ang isip nito't hindi lang isa kundi tatlong pelikula (as of now),

ang ipapasok niya sa 2005 Metro Manila Film Festival. Una rito ang Chinoy, na

ang mga lead actor ay sina Eddie Garcia, Rudy Fernandez at Christopher de

Leon, na ngayon lang magkakasama. Pinipili pa ang mga artistang babae na

kanilang makakasama. Si Joel Lamangan ang director ng project na mas malaki

raw sa Mano Po series.

Pang-MMFF din ang White Lady na ang mga bida'y sina Jennylyn Mercado, Mark

Herras at JC de Vera sa direksyon ni Mark Reyes. May problema ito sa casting

dahil kasama sa cast ng movie adaptation ng Mulawin at Encantadia sina

Jennylyn at Mark. Entry ng GMA Films sa MMFF ang nasabing project.

Ibabalik din ni Mother Lily ang Shake, Rattle & Roll na kung inyong

natatandaan, laging nanguna sa box-office sa mga nagdaang film festival.

Nagka-cast na ang Regal ng mga magbibida sa trilogy movie.

Hindi pang-filmfest, pero gagawin ni Mother Lily ang Apo ni Lola, sequel ng
