Erwin Tulfo clarifies status with network

"PEOPLE will see me on ABS-CBN for many years to come."

Erwin Tulfo, ABS-CBN anchor for "Magandang Gabi Bayan," made this declaration to Inquirer Entertainment in a phone interview on Monday, even as he confirmed reports that he was asked by the network to retire as a regular employee.

Tulfo said he accepted the retirement package of three months severance pay for every year of service that management offered a number of its employees. He has been a regular reporter of ABS-CBN for nine years.

But Tulfo clarified that the station had not booted out high-profile news personalities like himself, including Pia Hontiveros and vice president Jake Madarazo.

He explained that management merely asked them to retire from their regular jobs as reporters.

"We were all retained as anchor persons," said Tulfo.

Hontiveros will still anchor ANC's weekend news program, and Madarazo retains his radio program over dzMM.

Most news anchors, like Ted Faillon and Dong Puno, are talents who are paid per show, according to Tulfo.

"As a talent, I make four times more than my salary as a reporter," Tulfo said.

The downside is that talents do not enjoy benefits like insurance and medical coverage, he said.

Tulfo said management resorted to the retirement package to avoid giving double compensation to regular employees who also get paid as talents.

So far, about 35 staff members of the news division have been offered the package. Other key production personnel, like in-house directors, would soon get the same offer, said Tulfo.

"Which is still fair," he noted, "because the directors get separate fees for every show they direct."

In any case, the network "did not tell us to go away."

ABS-CBN is set to open new shows this month. Tulfo said the same pool of talents would most likely be hired.

He has received offers from Channels 5 and 7, he said, but "I've decided to stick it out here."

CONNIE Sison, one of the better looking newscasters and reporters ng ABS-CBN, was among those who took advantage of the retirement package of three months of separation pay for every year of service which ABS-CBN offered to several of its employees. After all, talagang binalak na niyang mag-resign bilang regular talent ng ABS-CBN, since she noticed na di na na-uutilize ang kanyang kakayahan in her field of work.

Ganunpaman, 'di nangangahulugan na si Connie is now totally out of ABS-CBN and its subsidiaries' (like the ANC, etc.) employee. In fact, she's still very much a part of the network. This time as a talent nga lang who is being paid her show. She still hosts Special Assignment (aired Wednesday after Insider). May bago rin siyang programa with TJ Manotoc which will start airing today on ANC (otherwise known as the ABS-CBN News Channel).

Disyerto, magsisilbing tagapag-hatid ang programang ito ng serbisyo publiko at mahahalagang impormasyon ng The Filipino Channel (TFC) ng ABS-CBN Global para sa mga homesick nating kababayan sa Middle East.

Here are, more or less, the contents of the show. Isang segment will show live na live na nag-uusap through the program ang mga Pinoy sa Middle East at ang kanilang mga mahal sa buhay dito sa Pilipinas.

Connie was a fresh graduate ng BS Psychology sa Miriam College when she auditioned as a newscaster, or, maski na as a reporter lang, sa Studio 23. At that time, ang only employment niya bilang employment qualification ay ang pagiging 'pinch hitter' niya as a newscaster sa RPN 9.

Awa ng Diyos, natanggap siya as a news reporter. Not long after, nag-merge ang Studio 23 at ABS-CBN, kaya, sort of naging part na rin siya ng ABS-CBN. Dito nagsimula ang paglabas-labas niya sa tv, as an anchor person or news reporter. Na-develop din ang kanyang talent as a segment producer, where her feature stories ay siya mismo ang nagre-report sa tv.

As a regular staff member ng Public Affairs Division ng ABS-CBN, ani Connie, she was getting a monthly salary, bukod pa sa payment na natatanggap niya per feature story na kanyang pinu-produce, sinusulat at niri-report sa television.

Now that she's no longer a regular employee ng ABS-CBN, she no longer gets a regular salary. Wala na rin siyang insurance and medical benefits.

At 29 years old, may anak na si Connie, si Bani, who is 10. Na-annul ang kanyang marriage sa kanyang first husband. With her second husband, a restaurateur (whose identity she refuses to divulge for very personal reason, Connie said), she has a new baby, one year-old Gabbie.

"When I was pregnant with Gabbie, I weighed 150 lbs. would you believe?" ani Connie, who is now back to her ideal weight of 104 lbs. anong diet ang kanyang ginawa dahil, kung titingnan siya ngayon, di mo aakalaing nanganak siya? "I ate six small meals a day. Ganoon lang," sagot ni Connie.

Ang sabi lang ni Rikka, if ever, matsugi nga ang Bora'y hindi dahil sa rating dahil lumalaban na raw ito sa rating nang katapat na Bahay Mo Ba 'To? ng GMA-7. Schedule ng cast ang magiging rason dahil si Piolo Pascual, dalawang pelikula ang gagawin at sa July 5 na ang start ng taping ng teleserye nila ni Judy Ann Santos.

Si Jericho Rosales naman ay may Ang Panday at may ginagawang pelikula sa Malaysia. Ang hindi nabanggit ni Rikka ay kung ano ang mga project nina Diether Ocampo, Carlos Agassi at Bernard

Sa palagay ninyo papayag sina Rudy at Alma na magsama sa show? Sina Jom at Aiko ay posible pang pumayag dahil friends naman sila. Pero, cute ang title, 'no? Saka, ang daming iikutan ng concept kung sakaling matuloy. Wait na lang tayo sa kung ito'y maisasakatuparan.

Kararating lang nina Jessica Soho at Joey Abacan mula sa Korea. In-interview ni Jessica sina Song Hye-kyo at Rain, mga bida ng Full House at sinamahan siya ni Joey. Isa sa mga araw na ito'y, mapapanood ang nasabing interview sa two of the hottest stars of Korea kundi sa Full House ay sa Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho.

Malalaman natin ang reaction ng dalawa't kahit malayo sila'y sikat na sikat sila sa bansa at marami silang Pinoy fans. Mas maganda sana kung dadalhin ng Channel 7 ang dalawa rito kahit matatapos na ang kanilang show dahil may bago namang K-drama si Rain entitled Cruel Love.

Commitment na lang ang kulang kina Roxanne Guinoo at Joross Gamboa para maging formal na ang kanilang relasyon. Ito ang in-announce ni Joross sa presscon ng D'Anothers, ang horror-comedy movie ng Star Cinema showing sa July 27.

Kinausap ni Joross ang father ni Roxanne para ipaalam na seryoso siya sa intension sa dalaga. Last Thursday, muling kinausap ni Joross ang ina ng dalaga para lang uliting mahal niya ang anak nito.

"Man-to-man ang usapan namin ng dad ni Roxanne. Inamin kong mahal ko ang anak niya. Ang sabi niya sa akin, 'wag kong tatanggalin ang respeto ko sa anak niya at alagaan ang reputasyon nito na siya kong gagawin," pangako ni Joross.

Ikinatuwa ni Roxanne ang pagharap ni Joross sa ama't doon niya nakitang seryoso ito sa kanya. Alam din niyang kailangan nilang maghintay dahil bata pa sila pareho. Sa kanilang love team muna ang focus nila't gusto ni Roxanne na mas sumikat pa ito.

Incidentally, itinanggi nitong umiyak siya sa confrontation niya kina Bea Alonzo at Shaina Magdayao. Tungkol ito sa dressing room incident kung saan, isinumbong daw ni Roxanne ang pangdi-deadma sa kanya ng dalawa.

Ayon pa kay Roxanne, kung may kasalanan man siya'y ang pagpapa-interview niya sa The Buzz na hindi sinasabi kina Shaina at Bea. Hindi pa rin friends ang tatlo pero, civil sila pag-nagkikita sa Channel 2 studio.

Naglabasan sa iba't ibang tabloids ang resolusyong nagdi-dis-miss sa kasong acts of lasciviousness na isinampa ni kasamang Salve Asis kay Willie Revillame.

Ang bagay na ito ay ikinagulat ni Salve, ng kaibigang Ian Fariñas (na main witness sa kaso) at ng kanilang abogado na si Atty. Bonifacio Alentajan mainly because unang-una, wala silang kopya ng nasabing lumabas na dokumento na dapat sana ay sila ang unang nagkaroon bago ang media.

Pangalawa, bagama't hindi pa nakakarating sa kanila ang kopya ng nasabing resolusyon, they were told na wala itong pirma ng chief prosecutor na si Claro Arellano.

Nang makausap namin si Atty. Alentajan kahapon, kinukuwestiyon niya ang paglabas ng resolusyon ng walang pirma ni Arellano dahil hindi raw maaaring mangyari iyon. Lumalabas na wala pa itong approval ng said city prosecutor kaya hindi pa raw ito final.

With only 10.5 % rating, the recently-concluded Famas Awards night was a big letdown.

We'd like to congratulate Claudine Barretto and Piolo Pascual for winning best actress and actor, respectively, but since it was aired on ABS-CBN 2 where they are both contract stars, we have been thinking twice about it.

Unfortunately, both did not get the approval of the majority as winners, but since a FAMAS award is a FAMAS award, they were so dramatic in accepting the trophies.

Oh, well...

Janice returns on idol

"Idol Ko Si Kap" tonight on GMA-7 happily welcomes Janice Jurado as Liweng, Julianne Lee as Julia and Krizzy Jareño as Krizzy tackling an episode titled "House About That."

Odette (K Brosas) is driven away from her house because the place is going to be converted into a water station. Vivian (Rufa Mae Quinto) pities her and lets her stay in her house. Unfortunately, the house where Vivian stays had been loaned out to Atorni (Leo Martinez), who says he also need the house for business. Vivian receives a letter of eviction within five hours upon receipt.

Kap (Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr.) intervenes and asks Atorni to give Vivian more time to prepare for a possible transfer. Atorni gives in, but on certain conditions. On the other hand, Nanay Idang (Luz Valdez) invites Vivian to stay in her house, and tells her not to worry about what people around will say.

Odette is forced to set up a tent in the plaza for her to stay in. Liweng, Odette's mother, returns and is shocked by her daughter's fate.

Meanwhile, Gigi (Katarina Perez) is desperate because she's the only one who doesn't own a discman player in her group giving her a hard time to learn the music she's supposed to practice. Vivian comes to Gigi's rescue by giving her a discman player, but Nanay Idang thinks Gigi got the money from her school allowance.

A scary comedy movie

Kiliti" is not a horror movie but we felt scared just the same. At the time we saw the movie at SM Centerpoint last Monday afternoon we were only two viewers in the orchestra section and three more on the balcony. Should you slip and cry for help, the person to turn too is miles away from you. Our hearts bleed for the producers of "Kiliti."

With the poor attendance, how are they going to recoup their investments?Will they still attempt to produce another movie? Granting it was produced on a small budget but that's still money coming out from the producers pocket.

We considered several factors why it bombed at the box-office. Lack of publicity is one. The old- fashioned style of direction and the negative feedbacks D' Bodies received and why oh why, there are so many gays in the story?

Biggest bonus

Our congratulations to Famas winners Claudine Barretto (best actress) and Piolo Pascual (best actor) for their sensitive performances in the movie "Milan."

We have seen the growth and maturing of these two prized possessions of Star Cinema— from awkward teeners (especially Claudine who is more known as the kid sister of Gretchen) to today's fine performers.

It is to their advantage that some of the country's competent directors (Jose Javier Reyes and Chito Roño, to mention a few) have generously molded them in the past. They not only listened and absorbed the finer points of acting but applied these in their succeeding assignments.

"Milan" director Olivia Lamasan belongs to the breed of directors who demands nothing but the best from her actors. Every line, every movement and presumably even the flowing of tears must be defined. As Inang for which she is fondly called, she is caring. As a director of the first calibre, she can be very exacting. It takes a lot of emotional preparation for any actor to achieve the right Lamasan aims to project.

To her satisfaction and to the satisfaction of the judges as well, Claudine and Piolo delivered the goods and received the biggest bonus of them all— Famas recognition.

Award-giving bodies (including Famas) has been subject to many accusations like vote buying. ABS CBN won't be spared from such attacks because of the TV coverage they did during the awards night.

What really matters is giving the awards to deserving ones. For this year's choices, Famas did exactly that.

Gloria's words of wisdom

"Be professional and love your work. Don't be conceited and never allow success to enter your head. Just remember that out there are plenty of fresh talents wanting to replace you."

Words of wisdom coming from Ms. Gloria Romero who reigned as movie queen for the longest decade.

BARON Geisler turned 23 on June 5 and he's definitely older and wiser. A few months ago, we saw him on the newscast after figuring in a vehicular accident where he was driving under the influence of liquor. "At first, I thought astig ako as I was even defying the cops," he tells us at the birthday presscon hosted by Star Magic's Rikka Dylim. "But when it sank in sa ulo ko na mali ang ginawa ko, I felt sad. It was an eye-opener for me."

The incident made him acknowledge that he has a drinking problem. "I went to Alcoholic Anonymous to seek help but later on, I decided to do it on my own and consulted the help of a psychiatrist. I had twice a week sessions and it helped me a lot to sort of out my feelings. I was angry dahil nasunog ang bahay namin, I had a bad experience with a girl, and I was frustrated with my career. I am now stronger and more in

control of my life, including my drinking. I want to thank ABS-CBN for giving me another chance. I now play a meaty role in 'Vietnam Rose' as Jason Abalos' best friend who has an affair with his mom, Gina Alajar. I'm also more professional. I don't report anymore sa set with a hangover."

Is the girl he's referring to Jodi Sta. Maria? It was reported he got depressed when she married Pampi Lacson. "No, it's another girl. I wasn't really affected by Jodi's marriage dahil matagal na kaming off. Let's leave her in peace."

Baron also qualified as one of the 15 finalists in ABC-5 new reality TV show, "Hollywood Dream." If he'd win, he'd get the chance to go to Hollywood.

Sexy news reporter

ANOTHER June celebrant is sexy ANC news reporter, Gretchen Fullido, who turned 21 on June 4. Standing 5'4" and measuring 36-25-35, she's perfect for sexy roles.

"I got a lot of offers when I was a teenager but I felt I have something more to show than just my body," she says. "I did try acting as Diether Ocampo's ex-girlfriend in
'Sana'y Wala Nang Wakas' but I don't think acting likes me. I really prefer hosting and news reporting."

Now a UP masscomm senior majoring in film, she auditioned last March at ANC and was hired to do the weather and sports news. "I'm also a courtside reporter at the PBL and UAAP Games. At ANC, I'm required to write my own news reports. Later, I also want to try showbiz reporting or host my own sports show like Dyan Castillejo."

An only child, she has many relatives in showbiz Joonee Gamboa, Isabel Rivas, and the late Manuel Conde. She admits having had a boyfriend once. "But we parted last year as we're not compatible. Right now, I want to focus on my job first."

Good showbiz talk show host

DOMINIC Ochoa is now an official showbiz talk show host. He hosts "Showbiz No. 1" with Rica Peralejo, JC Cuadrado and Nina Corpuz from Monday to Friday at 4:45 p.m., after "Pasion de Amor," and "ETK" with Toni Gonzaga and Angelika de la Cruz on Saturdays at 3 p.m. We saw him paying tribute to Joey Gosiengfiao, who did youth films in the 80's like "Underage" and "Blue Jeans" and the cult camp movie, "Temptation Island," in "Showbiz No. 1" and he's good.

"The show presents not only the hottest chika in showbiz but we also show intimate portraits of your favorite stars' life on and off screen," he says. "In the 'Hey It's Me' episodes, we interview famous stars to find out what they had to go through to succeed, like Vilma Santos who we personally visited in Lipa. Toni comfortable with Vhong

IN the horror-comedy, "D'Anothers," comedian Vhong Navarro gets a new leading lady, Toni Gonzaga. They seem to be very comfortable with each other that some folks conclude that Toni must be his new girl after Diana Zubiri.

"We're comfortable with each other as we've been working as co-hosts in 'Wazzup Wazzup' for a year now," he says. "Noon pa man, nagkaroon na kami agad ng rapport as she has good comic timing."

"I admit I'm very comfortable with Vhong," says Toni. "Kasi naman mapagkakatiwalaan siya. He's sweet and caring to everyone and does not take advantage of the women he works with. Wala siyang arte sa katawan."

Vhong is reunited with his "Mr. Suave" director, Bb. Joyce Bernal, and they made "D'Anothers" very different from his past comedies, including "Otso Otso" and "Gagamboy."

"Kinuha ko rito ang character ni Keanu Reeves sa 'Constantine' kasi hindi naman kami nagkakalayo ng hitsura," he adds. 'I also sing the film's theme song, 'Don Romantico.' Ipinakita rito sa movie ang buhay ng isang multo. Nakakatakot ito na nakakatawa kaya pag labas mo ng sinehan, baliw ka na."

Vhong plays Jesus Resurrecion, a man who inherits a century old mansion worth millions but turns out to be haunted by various ghosts played by John Prats, Joross Gamboa, Roxanne Guinoo, Neri Naig, Jaime Fabregas, Michelle Madrigal, Mura, Archie Alemania, Pokwang and newcomer Joshua Deocareza. On a personal note, when I first heard that the case against my client has been dismissed, I was inclined to advise and insist upon my client that we vindicate the injustice that has been done against him, his reputation and his family by the malicious and reckless statements that were made both by our accuser and her sympathizers but, while there was an actionable legal and justifiable right, my client Mr. Revillame has opted to follow the admonition and the example set by Christ and has chosen to forgive his accusers.

We would like to thank all the people who believed and supported my client throughout this difficult ordeal. We would like to thank my client's family for their steadfast and unwavering comfort.

Napakalakas pa ng kanyang appeal lalo na sa mga print ads niya tulad sa Bobson Jeans and Close Up kaya tamang-tama siya sa commercial kung saan siya nagsimula bago mag- showbiz.

Si Japoy yung kasama ni Monsour del Rosario sa taekwondo segment ng Olympic advertisement ng Milo noon. It was through commercial din kung paano siya naman nakapasok sa ABS nang tawagan siya ng isang talent manager if he is interested.

This DLSU student recently concluded his first regular show for ABS, ang katatapos lang na SCQ Reload Kilig Ako opposite Sarah Geronimo pa.

By the way, tatlo silang magkakapatid, siya ang pangalawa after his brother and before their young sister at silang tatlo, pawang mga black-belter.

PROUD na proud ang inyong lingkod nang makita ang malalaking letra ng pangalan ni Lani Misalucha sa Las Vegas noong nakaraang linggo.

Si Lani lang sa ating local singers sa ngayon ang nakaentra ika nga sa Strip, particularly sa Bally's, kung saan siya nagpe-perform kasama ang Society of Seven. "The best musical Variety on the Strip," ang label nila.

Kahit sa mga taxi dri-vers doon, kilalang-kilala nila ang Asia's nightingale na si Lani. Madami raw turista ang inihahatid nila sa Bally's para panoorin ang kababayan natin.

Not even our own Concert King Martin Nievera had invaded the strip. Hanggang Golden Nugget lang siya, anang mga kababayan natin.

Sobra din ang papu-ring itinatapon nila kay Lani, dahil diumano sa pagiging humble nito, friendly at very thankful sa mga sumusuporta

By the way, exclusive si Lani sa Bally's ngayon. Ayaw na siyang pakawalan ng mga may-ari nito. Kahit nga mga taong naka-billet sa MGM Hotel, eh, dumarayo sa Bally's just to watch Lani. Say n'yo?

Labandero, plantsador at cook. Lahat ng iyan ay tinitiis ni Jolo Revilla sa mahigit na apat na buwan niyang pananatili sa Tate.

Kundi pa niya nalaman na 10 minuto lang pala ang layo ng kanyang tinitirhan sa bahay ni John Ling (US based producer), eh, hindi siya makaka-labas. Doon tumuloy ang inyong lingkod.

Noong una ay nagpapaka-mama pa si Jolo sa pagsa-sabing hindi naman siya nalulungkot kahit wala siya sa 'Pinas. Pero, nang araw-arawin niya ang pagtawag sa amin na sunduin siya, siyempre, lumabas din ang katotohanang pilit niyang nilalabanan ang lungkot ng pag-iisa.

"Kasalanan ko rin itong dinaranas ko ngayon. I just hope it will make me a better man. Iyon ang gusto kong mangyari, para naman makabawi ako sa mga taong nagawan ko ng kasalanan. Gusto kong maging maganda ang future ng anak kong si Gab at preparation ito sa magiging kapalaran niya.

"Nagpapasalamat din ako dahil very supportive ang Mom at Papa (Sen. Bong Revilla and Lani Mercado) sa akin, kung kaya't nakakagaan ito sa problema."

Miss na miss ni Jolo ang showbiz, sa totoo lang. Nang isama namin siya sa Return of the Champions concert na ginawa sa Grand Olympic Audito-rium in Los Angeles, natuwa siya sa mainit na pagtanggap ng mga naroon.

Nasa audience lang kami noon, also with Kaye Abad and her younger brother Brandy. Bigla na lang dinumog si Jolo.

Nakaagaw talaga siya ng eksena, tulad din ni Kaye. Walang nangyari sa pag-aalalay ko kay Jolo. Nabitiwan ko siyang bigla at no'n na lang palabas kami nagkita.

"Alam po ba ninyong masaya ako kahit sangkatu-tak na kurot ang ginawa nila sa akin," bulong ni Jolo. "Kasi, kilala pa rin nila ako. pinanonood daw nila ako sa Click noon at sa Idol Ko Si Kap. May future pa pala ako patuloy niya.

Ganoon din ang nangyari nang mamasyal kami sa Las Vegas at pagpunta sa airport nang pauwi na kami.

Iyon nga lang, kung minsan, Bong Revilla ang tawag sa kanya ng mga tao. Pero mayroon namang nag-e-extend sa kanya ng kamay at ang bati ay "Kumusta po Senador!" Ang akala'y si Bong
siya.

From Las Vegas, pinuntahan naman ni Jolo ang kanyang eskwelahan sa Fullerton para alamin ang resulta ng kanyang entrance exams. Laking tuwa niya nang malamang pa-sado na siya at kailangan na lang ang student visa niya.

Pinayagan din siyang umuwi muna ng 'Pinas para sa requirement na ito. Kailangan lang niyang makabalik sa Tate 1st or 3rd week of August.

Ang pinakamalaking sorpresa sa kanya ng kanyang Papa at Mama ay ang role para sa pelikulang Exodus na iso-shoot na ng Imus Production para sa darating na Metro Manila Film Festival.

Maikli lang ang role ni Jolo, pero sapat na iyon para siya mabuhayan ng loob. "Gusto ko kasing mapanood pa rin at hindi makalimutan ng mga tao pagbalik ko sa Amerika."

Hindi rin sukat akalain ni Jolo na pati ang kanyang anak na si Gab ay makakasama din sa pelikula.

"Buti na lang at pumayag si Tita Osang na ipahiram sa amin si Gab habang naririto ako. Ganoon din, nagpapasalamat ako pumayag siyang makasama sa pelikula namin si Gab. Bale four generations na kasi ang tema ng movie. Mula sa lolo kong si Sen. Ramon, nandiyan ang Papa ko (Sen. Bong) ako ang anak ko."

Balita ng Taray, eh, walang magiging leading lady si Jolo sa pelikula. Ito'y kinumpirma din nina Lani at Jolo. Hindi daw kasi kailangan. Isa pa hindi nga ganoon kahaba ang magiging role ni Jolo. Dahil nakatakda siyang bumalik sa Tate ngayong August.

The Kapuso Network Executives are currently establishing good relations with top executives from different Korean channels such as KBS, MBC and SBS. A very reliable source from GMA 7 said that the visit have created a lot of opportunities for both the Kapuso Network and the Korean stations. She hasn't divulged any information on the plans that the network executives have cooked up with their "Kapusong Koreans" yet, but she gave a very promising news.

Star Cinema of Korea heard about the visit of GMA 7 Executives. They approached them and expressed their interest to bring some of their stars here in the Philippines. They heard about the Korean wave taking the Philippines by storm and they were all excited to explore the possibilities of filming a Korean-Filipino drama series. Both parties have already come up with various projects, our source said. But GMA Network will not publicize any information until all deals have been closed. But our source gave us a few infos about one of the plans that might push through within the year. Lee Dong Gun (popularly known as "Martin" of Lovers in Paris) might visit the Philippines to personally thank the viewers who watched and supported his Koreanovelas Lovers in Paris, Sweet 18 and Stained Glass. He will be promoting his upcoming series that will be aired soon over the local boob tubes. Among these are Sangdoo, Let's Go to School (with "Justin" of Full House) and Friends (with "Andrew" of Endless Love 1: Autumn in My Heart). Both Koreanovelas we've heard, were acquired by GMA Network.

This is a good start for the Kapuso Network and its Korean partners to take the first few steps in making Asian series a bigger blast in the international market. The network may soon be visiting other neighboring countries to create more partnerships and make the Philippines part of the Asianovela fame. Earlier this year, the network has sent representatives to Los Angeles, California (L.A. Screenings), Bangkok, Thailand and Taipei, Taiwan.

THE end is near for President Macapagal-Arroyo.

That's what two militant members of the House of Representatives declared yesterday after seeing thousands of people waving their hands while chanting "Bye, Bye, Gloria" in Makati City yesterday.

"President Arroyo's clout continues to diminish as the truth is slowly unraveled," said Rep. Liza Maza of Gabriela party-list. "The end of President Arroyo's regime is imminent," she said.

Rep. Teodoro Casino of Bayan Muna said President Macapagal-Arroyo should "spare herself the ignominy of ouster by taking the honorable way: Admit the whole truth and resign with dignity."

Golez asserted that resigning "is the only honorable option" left to the President after she had admitted it was her voice in the compact discs containing allegedly wiretapped phone conversations of a woman and a man believed to be Commission on Elections Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano that suggest efforts to rig last year's presidential election results.

The events in the past days, according to Casino, showed a snowballing of the protests against the Arroyo administration. "There is no turning back. The consensus is, until she resigns, this will go on and on. There was already a shift in public opinion. Those who were reluctant to join the call for resignation are now convinced or beginning to be convinced," he said.

"I believe (the President) is just finding out the least painful way to do it (resign)," Casino said.

Meanwhile, spiralling prices, the Gloriagate tapes and the jueteng scandal may doom President Macapagal-Arroyo's administration, according to think-tank IBON Foundation.

Even if the President were to play her cards right, she won't be able to escape the wrath of the people who are hurting from increasing prices of goods and services and from the belief that she cheated in the 2004 presidential elections, IBON research director Antonio Tujan said.

He explained that even before the jueteng scandal involving the President's family and the Hello Garci tapes, Mrs. Arroyo's satisfaction rating was at an all-time low. With the implementation of the expanded Value Added Tax law, the people's howl of protest will grow stronger which will mean a bigger problem for the President, Tujan said.

Ayon sa Filipino Muslim Democratic Alliance (FIMDA), hindi ang Pangulong Arroyo kundi si Ms. Roces ang arogante matapos niyang barahin at supalpalin ang mga mamamahayag na nag-interview sa kanya nang magsagawa ng press conference noong Miyerkules ng tanghali sa Club Filipino.

Sinabi ni Haji Wahab Sultan, pangulo ng FIMDA, sawang-sawa na sila sa pamumulitika ng mga artista at hindi na nila matatanggap na palagi na lamang inihahambing sa pelikula ang pagpapatakbo ng pamahalaan.

Binanggit ni Sultan na hindi malayong mahalintulad sa administrasyon ni dating pangulong Joseph Estrada ang pamahalaan kung muling mangingibabaw ang mga artista sa pelikula na mamuno sa gobyerno.

Dahil dito, inihayag ng naturang grupo ang buo nilang suporta sa administrasyon ni Pangulong Arroyo kasabay ng panawagan sa mamamayan na maging mahinahon at magkaisa upang matagumpay na maisulong ang reporma.

Reaksiyon

HATI ang mga kongresista sa naging pahayag ni dating Pangulong Corazon Aquino na maging maingat si actress Susan Roces sa mga puwersang nais na magpatalsik sa administrasyong Arroyo sa pamamagitan ng anumang paraan na kontra sa Konstitusyon.

Para kay Agusan del Sur Rep. Rodolfo Plaza, stalwart ng Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) na nasa hanay ng oposisyon, malinaw umanong 'bastardo' na ang Konstitusyon kaya dapat gumawa ng mga hakbang para pabagsakin ang pamahalaan kung hindi magbibitiw sina Pangulong Arroyo at Vice President Noli de Castro.

"We have the Constitution. Mukha namang bastardo na. Tila nakakahiya na. Kung kailangan sa anumang paraan ay okay na rin basta magkaroon lamang ng pagbabago. Hating-hati na ang bayan. Sana bumaba na si GMA para matahimik na ang bayan."

"Magkaroon dapat ng election sa president at vice-president," ani Plaza sa panayam ng Taliba.

Ngunit, kinontra ito ni Cavite Rep. Gilbert Remulla, kasapi ng Nacionalista Party (NP) at chair ng House committee on public information, nang sabihing dapat makinig si Susan sa panawagan ni dating Pangulong Aquino na irespeto ang Konstitusyon sa kabila ng naging pagsuporta at papuri sa naging hinaing nito.

Connie was a fresh graduate ng BS Psychology sa Miriam College when she auditioned as a newscaster, or, maski na as a reporter lang, sa Studio 23. At that time, ang only employment niya bilang employment qualification ay ang pagiging 'pinch hitter' niya as a newscaster sa RPN 9.

Awa ng Diyos, natanggap siya as a news reporter. Not long after, nag-merge ang Studio 23 at ABS-CBN, kaya, sort of naging part na rin siya ng ABS-CBN. Dito nagsimula ang paglabas-labas niya sa tv, as an anchor person or news reporter. Na-develop din ang kanyang talent as a segment producer, where her feature stories ay siya mismo ang nagre-report sa tv.

Commitment na lang ang kulang kina Roxanne Guinoo at Joross Gamboa para maging formal na ang kanilang relasyon. Ito ang in-announce ni Joross sa presscon ng D'Anothers, ang horror-comedy movie ng Star Cinema showing sa July 27.

Kinausap ni Joross ang father ni Roxanne para ipaalam na seryoso siya sa intension sa dalaga. Last Thursday, muling kinausap ni Joross ang ina ng dalaga para lang uliting mahal niya ang anak nito.

"Man-to-man ang usapan namin ng dad ni Roxanne. Inamin kong mahal ko ang anak niya. Ang sabi niya sa akin, 'wag kong tatanggalin ang respeto ko sa anak niya at alagaan ang reputasyon nito na siya kong gagawin," pangako ni Joross.

Ikinatuwa ni Roxanne ang pagharap ni Joross sa ama't doon niya nakitang seryoso ito sa kanya. Alam din niyang kailangan nilang maghintay dahil bata pa sila pareho. Sa kanilang love team muna ang focus nila't gusto ni Roxanne na mas sumikat pa ito.

Incidentally, itinanggi nitong umiyak siya sa confrontation niya kina Bea Alonzo at Shaina Magdayao. Tungkol ito sa dressing room incident kung saan, isinumbong daw ni Roxanne ang pangdi-deadma sa kanya ng dalawa.

Ayon pa kay Roxanne, kung may kasalanan man siya'y ang pagpapa-interview niya sa The Buzz na hindi sinasabi kina Shaina at Bea. Hindi pa rin friends ang tatlo pero, civil sila pag-nagkikita sa Channel 2 studio.

Naglabasan sa iba't ibang tabloids ang resolusyong nagdi-dis-miss sa kasong acts of lasciviousness na isinampa ni kasamang Salve Asis kay Willie Revillame.

Ang bagay na ito ay ikinagulat ni Salve, ng kaibigang Ian Fariñas (na main witness sa kaso) at ng kanilang abogado na si Atty. Bonifacio Alentajan mainly because unang-una, wala silang kopya ng nasabing lumabas na dokumento na dapat sana ay sila ang unang nagkaroon bago ang media.

Pangalawa, bagama't hindi pa nakakarating sa kanila ang kopya ng nasabing resolusyon, they were told na wala itong pirma ng chief prosecutor na si Claro Arellano.

Nang makausap namin si Atty. Alentajan kahapon, kinukuwestiyon niya ang paglabas ng resolusyon ng walang pirma ni Arellano dahil hindi raw maaaring mangyari iyon. Lumalabas na wala pa itong approval ng said city prosecutor kaya hindi pa raw ito final.

"Nakapagtataka

Dahil sa nangyari, may mga kuwestiyon at pagdududa si Atty. Alentajan sa paglabas ng nasabing dokumento.

"Isa itong symptoms of illness at dito sa amin sa korte, ang tawag dito ay badges of corruptions. May code of conduct ang mga public officials at malinaw na nalabag ito," pahayag pa ni Atty. Alentajan.

Sa ngayon ay hinihintay lamang ni Atty.
