doks, what part of the day is the best time to exercise? morning, afternoon or evening? i read somewhere that at a certain times of the day your muscles respond better to exercise.
i'm serious about my query. tatang and i are willing to give hairstyling tips to kind physicians who will respond.

With regard to the alleged relationship between the time of exercising and weight control efforts, no such relationship exists. If you exercise at a particular level of intensity, you'll burn the same number of calories regardless of when you exercise. In reality, the answer to the question of "when is the best time to exercise" is fairly straightforward -- whatever works best for you.
According to a handout distributed by the American Council on Exercise, "It is the influence of circadian rhythms on body temperature that seems to yield the most control over the quality of a workout." In other words, when your body temperature is high, your workout will be more effective than if you exercise when your body temperature is low. Body temperature reaches its peak late in the afternoon. Thus, it would be safe to assume that, according to this group, your workouts will be more effective in the late afternoon.
There is really no need to pay strict attention to circadian rhythms, though. The best time to exercise is when you can get it done. So place exercise in your schedule when you won't miss the session or schedule it out of your day, and forget about the nuances related to the body's natural rhythms. Studies have shown that people who exercise in the morning are more likely to stick with their exercise programs. This advantage is an important fact for someone starting an exercise program. If you're new to exercise, consider committing to mornings to increase your adherence to your new routine.

thanks, doc ira. now for tatang's haircare tips:
tatang: "a good head and body massage everytime you get your hot-oil treatment is essential for beautiful hair. though the hair is actually composed of dead cells the massage relieves stress that actually stuns folicular growth leading to bembol-rocoish cranial formation..."

i agree with doc ira ... but if you're jogging, i'd guess the morning routine is better ... no medical reasons really ... just that i think the air is much cleaner in the morning (when all the air particles have settled) than in the afternoon (COx galore!! not to mention SOx and NOx!!!) well, unless one has his/her own oval in the backyard ....

thanks, doc ruff. (okay, tatang, let her rip)
tatang: "well, ruffy (can i call you that?), for doctors i would recommend short, easy to manage cuts. it'll make you look neater, and it goes well with the angelic white medical garbs you enjoy terrifying your patients with. for instance, doctor evil...

I havea medyo stray question? Is it really true that studying burns more calories that plain exercise because of brain work?

Yoshi, if that were the case, all medical students will be slim.

I feel that exercise in the morning is more effective for me than in the evening.
The practical reasons: after exercise, I am awake and full of energy. This is good because it helps me through the day. But if I exercise in the evening, I am wide awake at bedtime and my sleeping pattern is disturbed.
Is there a medical explanation for this?

is it true, that if kunwari lagi kang nage-exercise and then u suddenly stopped, tataba ka raw ng sobra-sobra.
kse my aunt, who's a doctor, goes to the gym regularly (i think at least 3 times a week). well, when she got married. nawalan ng time mag exercise. now, she's very fat.
please, answers naman diyan o... thankx. :)

Kuya Danny: That's because when you exercise, you release adrenaline in your body, which makes you feel more "alive".
Kulit (haba ng nick mo kasi eh :) ): When you stop exercising, granting that you eat the same things you do while you were still working out, you only return to your pre-exercise shape, fat levels, and muscle tone. But you won't be worse than when you
started. It's a misconception that muscles turn to fat, since muscle cells are completely different from fat cells. While unused muscles atrophy (get smaller), it does not turn to fat.

I usually exercise at night (around 9 pm), except for Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays when I jog and go to the gym with my friends during late afternoon/early evening. And yes, i feel more "alive" after that. Enough to read (some pages of) a book...tapos, *blag* i'm dead to the world! No effect really sa sleeping habits ko. :)

soleil: really? what kind of exercise do you do at 9PM? i used to do weights at 8PM and wouldn't get sleepy until 2 or 3 pm.
siguro the reading also helps tire you out, no?

green grin: Circuit Weight Training (sort of)...combination of aerobic exercises (jumping jacks or stationary jogging) and lifting (light) weights. Othertimes stationary bike naman.
I think it's the shower that makes me sleepy. :)

soleil: that's what i need to do . . . shower! LOL :D seriously, i've switched to an earlier schedule. thanks for responding.
docs: i know that muscles need to rest for at 48 hours to recover, but is it okay to do aerobic exercises (threadmill for 35 minutes) everyday?

When I started during the summer, I usually worked out in the late morning though I preferred the earlier part (if I could get myself to wake up like 4am hehe).
Right now, I get to the gym at around 2:30 p.m when I'm done with work. I still do fine but there are times I feel work saps out my energy for lifting.

im new to this forum format really so forgive me if my post seems a bit out of place. But i was wondering if there was anyone here who works out at FF the fort at 930am or 10am. I'm looking for a workout buddy who can help me train. im not an intense gym addict but i want to give my body this one chance to be the most that it can be. anyone care to help?

morning talaga ang the best time para mag exercise kasi,
naka regen ka na ng energy at unlike afternoon kung hindi
ka nag-pahinga at katatapos lang sa trabaho eh madali
kang mapapagod niyan mag exercise.
tumaba nga uli ako ngayon eh kasi napabayaan ko

Well, it really depends upon the person.
I've been on weight training for weeks now. Before doing weights, I go to the treadmill and burn at least 250 pounds by running and/or briskwalking (that is 25 to 30 minutes for me).
Previously, I do my normal routine before going to work, that is, 7AM til 8:30 AM. Since I just woke up, I still feel tired. My endurance is not really that strong.
But recently, I tried having my training during the evening. Guess what? I was able to run continuously without resting for straight 10 minutes and burn 150 pounds (I'm 234 pounds). I was able to burn 200 calories within 15 minutes, unlike before wherein it took me 25 minutes to burn the same amount of calories.

out of convenience, umaga, 6am to 8:30am bago pumasok. dati gabi pero ayoko ng dami ng tao (nakakairita pa yung mga nagkukuwentuhan habang binabakuran yung equipment)
pag maaga maluwag at dirediretso yung work out ko (yun nga lang sometimes I really have to push myself to wake up that early)

i work nights too. so our world is turned around (our day is the night and vice-versa).as for me i would rather workout after my shift ends. it makes me go to sleep easily(tired from work plus gym). i try to do it sometimes before going to work. the good thing about it is you still feel the "high" even before your shift has started. but then again it doesnt last that long and then youre tired. my advise would be, try both and see which one works better for you.
good luck

Good, I found this thread. Seems more here are for morning exercise. I'm having these worries (I can't think of a lighter term) na baka mabigla ang katawan kapag mag-exercise pagkaGising. However, I've tried gym training after work 6-7 pm and it's hard for me to sleep once I'm at bed.
So considering morning exercise, can you share some tips on safety. I'm just concern dun sa notion na baka mabigla ang katawan mo kapag magwork-out agad pagkagising.
