How many of you ended up in your dream job-- work in TV stations, film/prodhouses, radio stations, advertising companies, etc?

try applying at some major TV Network or at Mccan Erikson (thet largest advertising company... ) kahit anong company anamna ta na may products silang gusto i-advertise.

To begin with, I didn't really know why I took Mass Comm to begin with. It seemed a general enough course, but at the end, like a lot of college freshmen, I didn't know what course to take.

In the 8 years since I've graduated, I've worked in bank as a Marketing Assistant, processed loans, met farmers, been to piggeries. I've been a high school english teacher, got burned out there, too much paperwork. Tried a career shift (twice) into IT, but the masteral IT programs and the curriculum at NIIT sucked, so I dropped that. Figured I was getting older, and needed to learn how to be more prudent with money, so I self-studied a bit of finance and investment strategies.

But still there was the void.

8 years later, still discovering myself, and working for an NGO. The work load is unbelievable, and I'm still making a lot of adjustments.

Don't know what the future holds, but nothing's perfect.

And I'm still glad to be alive.

Exhausted though.

the thing is, when u apply at major TV networks, you start with being a PA, most often than not. There's nothing wrong with being a PA. It's just that, thw workload is too much, considering that you are just paid with a measly PhP6000/mo. more or less. (Pls correct me if Im wrong). And expect to be drained more than what you're paid for.

:mecry:

so, call center na lang muna?

pero, thanks 0110l1001! i might as well consider the advertising suggestion. :)

Public Ad ang major ng friened ko but she's now working as a scriptwriter for one of the local major networks. Very good pay, she says, and masaya pa sya. She just submitted writing samples. Even if the ad said Mass communincations, English, Literature major graduates" only eh hala sige submit lang sya at kinarir ang lahat.

Nagsisisi ka ba at MassComm kinuha mong course? Nope. Not at all. When I was still in my 20's :rotflmao: (hoy kaka-trenta ko lang, no) I thought about that question a lot, but I kept coming up with the same answer: no.

If I had shifted out, or altered my life in any way, I don't think my alternate-reality life to-be now would really be any better. In fact, I think it would be a lot worse.

Which is to say that I like who I am now, I love my wife and daughter - for me they are REAL. They may not be perfect, but I wouldn't want to lose those parts of my life. No sir, wouldn't trade them for anything else.

I'd still like to believe we are who we are because it's part of some grand plan, and that whoever designed the framework of our lives knows best. I don't know who, or why, but I'm willing to have a bit of faith.

di naman sa nagrereklamo ako, alam ko marami ang nangangailangan talaga ng trabaho. pero sa workload na binibigay sa akin araw-araw, feeling ko kulang talaga ang 8k. oo fresh grad na kung fresh grad, pero okay naman ang qualifications ko, and that i deserve more than that.

di ko alam kung tatagal ako sa work na ito, pero kung hindi ako bibigyan ng opportunity ng mga networks at ad agencies to work for them, baka magcall center na talaga ako.

di naman sa inuunderestimate ko ang call center, pero simula pa noon, pangarap ko na talaga to work for the media, to be in a production outfit, to be in ad agency, etc. etc. nakakalungkot mang isipin, sa hirap ng bayan natin ngayon, lahat ng industriya naaapektuhan, lalo na ang industriya ng mga masscommas na katulad ko.

haay...good luck na lang sa atin. still hoping for the best.

I just graduated with a MC degree last April, and I admit, it indeed IS HARD to find job.

Sa Call centers, I've tried to apply in at least four via placement agencies, pero sablay lahat. I want to apply at this production company I did my internship in, pero I got this feeling wala silang openings. But there are a couple of leads that surfaced lately, I'm gonna check 'em out at the earliest bukas.

Charistar, nasa channel 2 friend ko. :)

I'm not a Masscom graduate but I do freelancing work, copywriting online website content. I get my projects by simply showing them my portfolio. My latest project is 350 dollars for 100 450-word articles, 50 days timeframe. That's just 2 short articles a day. Kayang kaya in one hour. :)

Madali lang talagang isulat. I've been doing this for quite a time now.

350 dollars....bawasan mo na ng 50 for Western Union fees...300 dollars = 15600 pesos in less than two months, doing something I've always enjoyed. Sweet!

Isa lang project na yan ah. I can take another one of the same bulk, para I can earn 30200 with two hours' work daily for 50 days.

Kahit naghahanap ako ng work ngayon, may pera ako. :D

I'm gonna work in a call center so I won't be bothered with take-home work. That way, I have more time for my online ventures.

Opportunities are ONLINE. Everything is going GLOBAL now.

Email me at gideoner4 @ yahoo.com if you're interested in knowing where to find projects. I have nothing to gain from giving you info. Just wanna help. :)

Yup, newbies in the employment world, like us, still hold on to our idealism & dreams.

Ako, im considering working in a call center para makaipon ng pang-tuition for graduate school/specialization, hoping that it will give me a better edge sa gusto kong i-pursue na field or at least more connections man lang.

For the love of theater, ika nga... Siguro nga mostly freelance jobs talaga makukuha ko. May I please join this interesting thread? I am a Communications major also. :) After graduating, I taught English and Journalism for 3 years in a local university in the Philippines. While teaching, I had the opportunity to take up Master of Arts in Teaching where I majored in English. Teaching was fulfilling (it does give you substance and makes you self-actualized) but it totally drained me. So, I resigned and pursued a corporate job as a communications officer for an American firm in the Philippines. As communications officer (I was the only employee in that department but I wasn't the manager), I did public relations and internal/employee communications. I stayed with this company for almost six years and I can say that this was the highlight of my communications career. I learned a lot especially about being versatile and patient. You don't even have to worry about the theories because they will always be there (you learn the theories in school for 4-5 years remember?) but values like good work ethic and that desire to always better yourself are hard to come by without the proper motivation and direction.

Anyway, I guess God has other plans for me because I migrated to the United States. Surprisingly, teaching beckoned on me once again as I taught TESL (teaching English as a second language). Right now, I am in the middle of a career change as I am going to school this fall so I can get my teaching license. I believe teaching is what I want to do for the rest of my life. Compensation is not that great but at this point in my life, I am after the nurturing of my soul.

It pays to have a solid liberal arts education. You're not stereotyped and you can do a lot of things with your career.

hey everyone... I am a MassComm FRESHMAN; majoring in Journalism at UP D..... Haha! still have a long long way to go... Oh! I've been dreaming of taking up this course at this particular school ever since I was in grade school (im not kidding!).... yah, you may call me idealistic, but I know that I will not be one of those dedicated and gutsy journalists (but who knows); id rather settle for a comfy corporate job that is related to my chosen field... I love writing of course, though I know there's a big room for impovement (that's why Im studying nga eh!); so my goal is to have a sideline job as a freelance writer of some sort while working in the corporate scene. =)... haaay, it's a big world out there, I might get my heart broken.. but all I need to do is just keep the faith! right?... Haha! I Love this course and I can't imagine being anywhere else.... kami lagi pinaka maingay sa mga assembly! Haha! GO MASSCOMM!!!!!!! ;p
