Not true, either. :) The time from infancy to your developing white hair (and its abundance) is genetically predetermined.

my white hair seemed to double when i started pulling them out... and i'm not that old, nor do i have plenty of white haired people in my family.

The early development and abundance of white hair is genetically predetermined. The amount of melanin pigment within your follicle is preset in your chromosome. Your family may not outwardly exhibit the traits of premature graying, but may be gene carriers. When you started pulling out your gray hair, it was the time when your hair pigment is already running out. That's why it seems to double. Even if you didn't pull them out, you'd still have the same amount of gray hair you have now.

so Doc Ira, if white hair is genetically predetermined, then it's not true that ones hair will turn gray if you color it will permanent hair color? Something about the amonia and peroxide?
Please enlighten me, thanks!

When you dye your hair, you only affect the hair shaft, not your follicles nor your genetic makeup. So dye away--your hair will not turn gray earlier or faster.
