don: It has to do with a person's autonomic nervous system. Simpy put, when you're excited, the penile blood vessels get congested and it goes up. Once you have peaked, and the excitement goes down, the congestion decreases, ergo, flaccid ulit.

It needs a little time to be "happy" again because once it goes down, the cells rest and undergo something called "absolute resting potential", where even the strongest of stimuli isn't going to make it rise. For example, when you are dead-tired, and someone invites you to go out, no matter how fun the gimmick is, it's not going to make you excited. For males, developing mumps once you've hit puberty may sometimes cause fertility problems--20-35% of postpubertal males develop orchitis (scrotal inflammation). The symptoms occur abruptly and include bilateral testicular swelling (3-4x the normal size), tenderness, nausea, vomiting, elevation of temperature, and chills. Surprisingly though, sterility due to mumps orchitis is rare--even in the offchance that you developed orchitis, it doesn't necessarily follow that you're sterile. There are conditions causing enlargement of the testicles/scrotum. They include congestive heart failure, hernia, varicocoele, elephantiasis, testicular torsion, tumor, orchitis, injury, and surgery.

Unless you had symptoms of orchitis while you had your mumps (testicular pain, swelling), you're okay. Your physician just meant that orchitis and subsequent sterility are noted among male patients who are already in their adolescent age, not preadolescents. It does not automatically mean that just because you had mumps at your age, you're sterile. Orchitis develops in only around 1/4 of the adolescent males who develop mumps. And even by some offchance that you had symptoms of orchitis, the incidence of sterility is actually rare.

If a girl has ever inserted anything into her vagina, the hymen will probably no longer remain intact, but this is a case-to-case basis. Some women's hymens are more resilient than others'. It may not cause pain, because other activities like running, etc., would have torn away the hymen little by little over a prolonged period of time.
