hi! ive been avid reader of PEX forum and id like to thank everyone who is very generous in sharing their relevant experience in working scenario....just want to know your thoughts about my situation....
Im an IT graduate last 2004, excited to have my first job I grabbed the callcenter job...Ive been a techsupport for almost a year (though nasa IT field pa rin, you all know how is it like working in a callcenter)....lately nagclose na yung call center/accout na pinapasukan ko, btw 2nd call center ko na yun na parehong tech support position....now I dont want to work in another callcenter....no offense to my co-callcenter night shifters, pero walang career advancement talaga ko nakita....depende kasi sa account eh hindi sa employer talaga.....
now i plan to pursue a career in IT (software dev, sys ana, documentation, web sana)...pero nahihirapan akong makakita ng IT firm na magtitiwala sa kakayahan ko sa field na ito....tanggap kong makipag sabayan sa mga fresh graduate, dahil alam kong i had less experience in soft dev....pero im making my part now...nag enrol ako sa Meralco for Program Logic Training, i also tried PLF Training from BPI.....
PEXers can you help me find my careeer in IT? will i pursue this.....how?
Thanks....your reply will be much appreciated

Try Accenture. I think they are willing to hire you even if you don't have an extensive background on programming. More of programming nga lang siya at less IT. Goodluck! :)

ganyan din naramdaman ko... when i resigned from my call center job.... i tried getting a job that is relevant with my course (ECE). i applied for IT (networking, HW) but my knowledge does not meet their requirements... after six months of looking for a job... i decided to go back to call center...
so if you really want to go to IT, do your best... learn more... maganda ang mga courses s meralco foundation... ask for your instructors advice kung anong mga software ang "in" ngayon. in my case wala n me pera kaya di n ko nakapag aral pa... at ciempre... patience in looking for a job... hindi naman lahat ng magagandang company sabay sabay nag hahanap ng new employees...
so for your question: " will i pursue this.....how? "
ikaw lang makakasagot nyan ... but if you decide to pursue IT, just do your best and learn more to be competitive.... *okay*

Dude, just a suggestion: why not try applying for an IT position in government agencies? I know that some government agencies do not discriminate call center employees as long as they have the skills. Government agencies provide great training for its employees, and some good ones even provide IT trainings and certifications!
Good luck!

why don't you work in our local ISPs.. or not specifically ISPs, look for an IT work na uberly low and sweldo. wag ka muna mamili ng sweldo.
1.) EPLDT
2.) SGV
Grab a newspaper and start looking for companies willing to hire fresh graduates.
Kung wala pa rin pre, look for clients pre na may software development needs. Present ka sa kanila na you're going to deliver this at x number of days and you're going to be paid this low amount.
Key dito experience, and how are you going to get experience pag napaka tough ng competition sa mga companies na nagbibigay ng ok na sweldo? Magwork ka ng mababa ang sweldo.

I could not agree more. Like what I posted earlier, you can try government agencies. Standard salary, good trainings. Examples of which are Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, NEDA, DTI, DBP and GSIS.

Before you become a systems analyst you should be first be familiar in software development, so programmer/application developer ka muna....hmmm dont worry bout the what you know now kasi everything that will follow you will learn na from acctual experience... most of the entry levels sa IT namn started with basic knowledge, kumbaga your lucky enough kung may training sa papasukan mo kung wala edi sariling kayod ka nalang... It's up to you naman kung hanggang saan mo gusto dalhin yan gusto mong karir.. *okay*

at lahat nag simula sa zero, kaya wag kang mag-alala. focus on getting an experience. for me bale wala ang certification pag wala kang experience. experience nagpapatunay na kaya mong gawin ang isang task. so kung walang experience ang isang tao paano magkakaroon ng experience lalo na at very competitive ang mundo natin? work w/ a less salary or kung pwede sa katayuan mo sa buhay, magwork ka for free or pumayag ka maski allowance lang.

Try mo mag-apply sa SPI sa paranaque. Marami hiring dun. Software Engineer. Mabilis din ang processing.
Sa Technistock naman ang hirap ng exam (well, for me). Para kasing financial/stocks na related sa IT itong company na to. Pero ok daw ang benefits. Ang inexam ko last April 2005(yata), binigyan kami ng scenario parang sa airlines at sa stocks, then pipili ka either c, c++, vb, isusulat mo yung codes (yes, written exam). Walang choices. Naalala ko nga yung terror kong math teacher nung nag-eexam ako dito. Tipong problem lang, no clue, no choices. Ang bilis ng result dito.
Pursue your dreams.
By the way, same field tayo. Pero magkaiba ng course. I graduated last March2005. Hanap pa ko iba after a year. Lam mo, when I graduated, di ako nag-apply agad sa call center.
GOODLUCK!!!

magno, heres a tip.... SGV, accenture, and SPI all have the same exam. I know this because I got the exact same questions for all 3 companies when I took their exams. If you can figure out the answers to that test, it should be smooth sailing :D
still confused...programming?techsupport?web?software dev?
If you enjoy writing code, then go for programming/soft dev/web dev. But if you're more interested in the planning, setting up of networks, IT-enabled services, etc., and you also have a knack for providing end-user support for these services (troubleshooting, guiding employees to solve technical problems, etc.), then tech support is for you. You could try one then the other. Experience will help you decide what path you want to take.
The more resume's you send out, the better your chances. Try posting your resume at www.jobsdb.com and www.jobmarketonline.com. But what I think we really need is someone to tell us how he/she got into IT. Someone who had some skills to begin with, but isn't an immeasurable genius.

hi guys.......update to my applicaton......need your opinions.....
two weeks ago nakakita ko ng magandang opportunity sa tech support/ tech eng job....IBM supporting ADB interviewed me..the work will much like callcenter but it will support specific employees of the bank, we will be partnered to ADB users for any computer problems including administration....pero helpdesk/ thru calls pa rin ang frontline.....1 yr contract lang tapos 10K lang, i think the only advantage is its IBM....
i also applied to a japanese firm...ive been interviewed earlier and it turned out good. the work will be in system design, analysis, programming and open sila for entry level....kaso ang next interview ko ay NEXT month pa kasi nasa Japan pa yung boss..di ko pa alam ang salary pero the IT Mngr advised me to study the prog languages they are using now and he even asked me to start learning Japanese language na..tagal ng iintayin ko (1month) pero yung IBM anjan na.....
what do you think? which is which?

in my opinion, the japanese firm is much better... why? japanese firms are more stable (vs ibm - contractual) and i'm sure they are going to train you well. but being in a japanese company also means you might be receiving a slightly above basic salary ... but if you stay there for maybe 3-4 years, you can use that experience to be an immigrant to other countries like canada, aus, and NZ.

narutrix not neccessarily, it may depend on the company in question. i have friends who were working in NEC Telecom, but they were never absorbed by the company in spite of how brilliant they are. the best they got after working their butts off for 1-2 yrs was simply a contract renewal. no regularization, no wonderful benefits to speak of. i was surprised, but some japanese can be cheapskates, too.

magno sounds like that's a good [japanese] company to stay with. But you might be counting your chickens before they've hatched. ADB/IBM would be good opportunity for some much needed experience, in case you don't get hired by the japanese company. I suggest you tell ADB/IBM you need more time to think about their offer (I'm assuming they made one for the 10K). Bec. if it shows on their records that you 'declined' they might require you to re-apply after a certain period of time (months). So make it clear that you're not declining, just undecided.

pareho ng rate at parehong promising...pero mag kaiba ng nature of work.
one is a japanese co. which primary deals with programming
second is a certification co who needs web analyst/content specialist who can help them update their web site
which do you think? honestly lam ko mas enjoy ako sa web dev pero programming is stable career plus the fact that the (that) japanese co offers good training

magno from what i've observed, i don't think web dev and web programming is unstable. on the contrary, there seems to be an almost constant demand for it. a lot of companies that interviewed me are interested in hiring someone who has knowledge in php, perl, cgi, sql, etc. and their pay is apparently good. when asked about my rate, i told them i was willing to work for 16K. they thought i was joking and then asked why i didn't want to start w/ 18K. the problem is, i only know 1 server side pl since my knowlege is mainly on c/c++.
working for the japanese co. as a programmer seems like the best choice to me. you might learn to enjoy hard coding. if not, you can probably take up the web dev job later on, and the experiences you gained will be a big plus (just like in the ads). that's just my 2 cents. keep in mind, i'm also trying to get into IT from the same place as you. :D
etucz now that's the kind of success story i've been looking for. *okay* i was beginning to think that i'm becoming a washed up has-been even before i could have been.

Here it goes... Iyong isang kaklase ko pre nung college 1 week bago kami gumraduate, Coca-Cola Philippines hired him already. Ang job nya dun is to do support work for their SAP system. Support work sya hindi sya development. Sa pagkakaalam ko ang sweldo nya ay P30,000 php and that was year 2000. Isipin mo fresh grad 30k agad sweldo.
Alam mo kung ano nangyari? Na-bored sya dahil ayaw nya ng support work. Gusto nya development work. So ang ginawa nya he resigned and pasok sa SGV. After ilang years iyong experience nya sa SGV eh talagang naging marketable sya. Pero pare, with the experience that he's going on with him considering sa Accenture/Avanade sya nagwowork ngayon, I guess after 2-3 years nasa 75k-90k mark na sya and baka mas malaki pa dun.

i did mention before that i got solid offers for programmer and web specialist position, heres the thing, i choose the last one...di talaga sila nag kakalayo ng monetary offer, benefits and most importantly career enhancement ( training, projects, etc) pero mas nagustuhan ko na yung last....
masaya kong malaman na *** japanese co ay nag open sakin ng programmer opportunity, i understand maganda training nila sa company na yun at tutulungan ka talaga....madaming projects na ilalaan base sa kakayanan mo at life time employment pa...matagal din akong nag hintay ng ganung pagkakataon, pero ng sumabay nga ang isa pang company at nag bukas ng pinto sa web content dev/analysis, no second thought i did grab it, why? i cant explain either....pero one thing struck me...i remember when i was interviewed in the japanese company, one manager told me "IF YOU HAVE THE INTEREST, KAHIT GANO KAHIRAP MAGAGAWAN MO NG PARAAN, AT PAG NAGAWA MO NG MAAYOS, WALANG KAPANTAY ANG REWARD, VERY SATISFYING".....
nung pinasimulan ko ang thread na ito at nagkwento at nag tanong sa inyo, honestly nangangapa pa talaga ko nun...sa kagustuhan ko lang magpatuloy sa IT industry at lumayo sa Callcenter work, kahit ano inaplayan ko....one year pa lang ako nag wowork and most of it nga eh callcenter job, i enrolled for programming trainings para marecall ko pa mga pinag aralan ng college na di ko naapply sa work...and it took me three months bago nakatanggap ng mga calls for exam, interview then job offer.....marami akong inaplyan na programmer position and i can say na yung japanese company na yun ang top sa aking list....pero ng dumating itong isang company na may opening sa web dev/analysis position parang natabunan lahat ng application ko, maging yung inenrol kong programming training....i just realize im more iinterested in web analysis/ dev than payroll system and other programming projects....i remember when i was in college i had my OJT at yehey.com.....

wow.. its a good news... so shall we celebrate? hhehehe.. as i told u before, kung san ka msaya, dun ka. but make sure na enjoy ka **** sa work at may career growth..
regarding dun sa query mo na trends ng web development,,, depende siguro yun kung san classify ang websites nyo at sino ang target market nyo.. ndi kaya ikaw *** bagong hire naming content specialist? heheheheh..... im a website analyst by the way... website development is a nice field... lagi dapat updated eeryday sa mga latest techno-stuff...
goodluck sa iyong career.. i see myself in you. lalo na nung sinabi mong **** anong work papasukin mo.. ganyan din ako dati...der comes a time na parang mas **** kong maging janitor kesa mag take ng call..unbelievable pero totoo..as in...i recall when i am having call, i am browsing through jobstreet then fill up lang ng fill up..aply *** ng apply.. now, im happy and contented...
so to conclude,, tlgang nsa tyagaan lang yan ng pghahanap ng work na **** mo **** to practice in the field of ur endeavor. sa akin kc its not *** malaki *** sweldo, it how about ur attitude towards ur work.. kung love mo *** work -everyday lagi kang "on the go", with passion, inspired at masipag.
charlie alpha: thanks.... appreciate it..

Im a website Analyst, iba kc pg content specialist.. Website Analyst in the US/ Europe ang tawag din ay SEO (search engine Optimization)Specialist...
so, i need to make a website rank higher... dpat nsa top 10 *** website because 80% ng sales online ay nanggagaling sa top 10 to 20.. basically we need traffic to the websites and those traffic could lead to a potential clients...
let say mganda nga website mo as in super ganda pero ala namang ng ng vivisit sa site na yon, alang (traffic), nsa pang 10,000 result, ikaw ba.. iisa-isahin mo *** mga result sa yahoo para makarating ka sa pang 10,000 page? diba hindi.. usually, ng ba-based tyo sa top 10 or top 20....
so ganon *** work ko, pwede ngayon number # 1 *** site mo then bukas pang 5,000... ganon yon...
so kung may kakilala ka na friends or relatives na may business at may websites pwede mong i refer sa akin..... (hahahaha.. advertisement ba? )
the concept is: pag nsa top 10 *** sites mo, mdami mag ci-click dun sa link ng web url mo, so pag mdami mag ki-click, mdami bibisita sa website mo, at *** mga yon, pwedeng maging potential customers mo.. edi mdami ka sales.. as i told u kanina, 80% ng salesm nanggagaling sa top 10 -top 20 search engine placement...
o gets mo na? malabo pa rin?
isa lang yan sa work ko, bsta i am making a way kung pano mpaganda *** website to drive more traffic and thus increasing the sales of a business...
banners, email, pop-ups, redirection... bsta madami..
*okay*

The thing about getting an IT job nowadays is that the competition is very stiff. Their are so many fresh graduates coming out every year, yet the graduates of the past years have not yet found jobs and are still in the market.
The best piece of advice I can give for fresh grads is to take all of the coding jobs. You might get lucky and find a company that will take a fresh grad as an analyst, but I can't imagine what company will do this when there are so many IT workers w/ experience that don't have jobs right now.
Be prepared to make less money than your call center-working friends. You'll make less money for a long time probably. Just keep building your resume. After you acquire 2-3 years of experience, you can start getting the good jobs. It will be at about 5 years of experience when you'll finally start to outdo call center salary.
Bottom line is that, to be in IT, you need to be good. I see so many people who just made bola their way into jobs and then they lose it once they can't deliver.

ang advice ko lang sayo is just to pursue your dreams kahit na maliit yung sahod ok lang since first job mo lang naman yan eh.Ang importante is kunin mo lahat ng experience na makukuha mo dyan kahit pa na overtime ka palagi sa work mo. And para di ka ma de-motivate, don't compare your salary sa mga peeps mo na nasa call center since matatalbugan talaga yang sahod mo. And believe me, in a few years time sila naman maiingit sayo dahil sa mga alam mo at sahod mo :)

when did you start doing such job?
>>i just started feb of this year lang.
do you any application that you use to analyze the web?
>>sorry. *** ma gets itong question mo..
and do you company website na inaanalyze or ibat ibang website ang inaanalyze nyo?
>>we are currently working on with the company's website. so far it has 8 websites to maintain for a top spot in yahoo and google. then pag ng hire pa sila ng isang analyst (im not sure maybe next year..no idea).. ooptimize naman namin *** mga affiliate sites ng mga clients namin...
is that the main business of your company?
>>this is not the main business of the company. bale isang department *** **. may department din ** ng mga designer, developer, writer... bale nature of business namin ay p*rn. US and Europe ang target clients namin.
